Review based on most recent rehearsal

Semi 1

Lithuania

Vocals - fine

Visuals - fine

Overall - it's up to the job. I don't think this song will do anywhere nearly as well as it's expected to in the grand final.

Slovenia

Vocals - excellent

Visuals - good

Overall - this has a much better chance at qualifying now. Despite not liking the song, it seems to work live.

Russia

Vocals - fine. Although I'd have no idea if it was out of tune because I don't really get the song at all.

Visuals - great.

Overall - looks like they have achieved what they set out to do. It's not for me.

Sweden

Vocals - good

Visuals - graphic are mostly terrible. It looks like they downloaded some generic water gifs and repeated them. I like Tusse's attire,

Overall - Are Sweden trying to figure out how little effort then can put into their entry and still qualify?

Australia (Live on Tape)

Vocals - as good as can be expected with such an idiosyncratic song.

Visuals - I like them a lot.

Overall - I'm not sure if it would have a better chance of qualifying if she had been allowed to come to Rotterdam.

North Macedonia

Vocals - great

Visuals - I like what they are trying to do.

Overall - like Slovenia, N Mac might just shine because the style suits a stage performance.

Ireland

Vocals - poor. She seems out of breath.

Visuals - the concept is great. However, if the voting public don't appreciate the concept it may all be in vain and last place is not out of the question.

Overall - a lot of work to do if this has any chance of qualifying,

Cyprus

Vocals - good

Visuals - I like the simplicity of it.

Overall - I think it has more impact than all the other female bops.

Norway

Vocals - as good as they need to be.

Visuals - it does seem slightly more professional than the national final.

Overall - I can see this qualifying.

Croatia

Vocals - good enough

Visuals - very slick .

Overall - good. I think it's of a high enough standard to qualify

Belgium

Vocals - they do what they have to do. I don't like the song at all.

Visuals - I think they've gone for minimalism and that doesn't seem to have worked.

Overall - I don't think this will qualify but I may be alone in thinking that,

Israel

Vocals - Effortless.

Visuals - great - love the floor

Overall - They've made the best of what they had and it really has worked.

Romania

Vocals - oops. Her acoustic version was excellent. The choreo must be making it difficult to produce the same standard.

Visuals - Too much smoke.

Overall - not great. Just let her stand there will a mic with some stunning graphics and she would have a better chance.

Azerbaijan

Vocals - they seem up to the job.

Visuals - at least they can't be accused of over-reaching.

Overall - I dislike the song so I don't know if I am the best judge of qualification likelihood.

Ukraine

Vocals - very good

Visuals - really good too

Overall - I really respect this entry but I don't really like the song. They've done well.

Malta

Vocals - effortless

Visuals - not good

Overall - the song is started to grow on me. Obviously it will do well but the staging will effect how well it will score.

Israel was my favourite of SF1 second rehearsals (well, the clips on YouTube...). Those whistletones will win lots of votes, I'm sure!

Honestly, one of my biggest fears for Israel's chances of making the final is... that she's representing Israel right now.

I'm a lot more invested in Eurovision than I was in 2014/2015 when Russia were being booed, but it would really upset if Eden got boos. In all of her interviews, she seems one of the sweetest and most down to earth artists there :(

UK last on the press poll for the second rehearsal. As ever, we're not doing anything exciting with it and seem to be mistaking adding comically large trumpets for entertainment.

Very excited for Italy and France, what with them both in the second half and getting rave rehearsals, and they're two of my favourites in the contest, would love either to win.

This is a great point. I really hope she isn't booed.

Get your bets on UK for last place, lads.

James confirms there will be no pyro/fire in his performance because his jacket would catch fire and the trumpets are made of polystyrene.

So the song about embers and lighting up the room will... not infact, light up the room. And he’s first half.

I can't believe how much they've screwed this up. Such an obvious artistic direction and they did the standard BBC thing of stationary bland props in the background. It's going to, YET again, be notably more 'no1curr' than everything else around it.

Anyone who would point down a 21-year old girl for singing in a music competition during H*mas attacking Israel is f***ed up

There's a big difference between what's happening there and the Russia situation too as in this time it's not so black and white

To me Embers screams accidental last, it's not the worst song by a LOOOOONG shot but it's not remarkable, it's a very UK sound which idk will translate that well to Europe. It'll be one of those people like enough while it's on, I expect a lot of people will think it's good, but I can't see many people liking it enough to vote for it which ofc is what's important.

That rehearsal clip for the UK is tragic 😭

When will we learn that the staging is a huge part of the performance! Definitely another bottom five...

Can't wait for everyone to cry about 'politics' being the reason we come last-ish, as our entry (correctly) "isn't too bad"... 🙄🙄

The staging looks dire, and the complete absence on pyrotechnics (unless it's being saved for the final... Which doesn't seem to be the case) is such a missed opportunity.

I'd be elated at a Italian or Maltese win, they've brought the best songs... France can stay away!

The UK having the cringe Union Jack colours too in their staging. It is beyond cheesy!
I know my opinions always change when the acts take to the main stage but while there are songs good songs there is now song I c add n say I love like I did with Keiino in 2019. I'd be so happy to see Malta get their first win though as they love eurovision there and it's a good song.
I thought the rehearsal footage of Embers was awful. We’re not getting this at all are we? James sounded vocally poor as well.
The first one was very good, it just seems to have got worse unfortunately :( God only knows what it will be like by the jury rehearsal :/

I think James actually could have come about 13th-16th region with My Last Breath last year, with a really solid jury vote and up to 40 points on the televote. But the rehearsals for Embers and the odd staging aren’t filling me with confidence of him escaping the bottom five this time sadly. Really good song on record but it isn’t coming to life on stage and the early placing too will no doubt mean it’s forgotten on the televote.

It’s up to the juries to save it but there’s way too much other jury bait that they’re more likely to go for (My Last Breath was way more jury friendly than this).

I actually think the UK is going to do better on the usual Ireland/Malta/Australia televote than with the juries this year. I mean, if 'La Venda' could only get 1 measly jury point...
