Various Self Esteem things:

Album is out in two days and I can't wait to listen to the full thing (seeing her acoustic set + signing on Saturday too!), it's been getting overwhelmingly positive reviews and think it'll do incredibly well critically, if not commercially. This one is a particularly great piece of writing: https://thequietus.com/articles/30698-self-...easure-review-2

She has won BBC Introducing Artist of the Year - the first act to have won it having already released an album.

Unfortunately after loving the first two singles and liking the third, I'm not really feeling 'Moody' very much at all. I think I'll still check the album out anyway though, I just hope the rest of it will live up to the quality of those first two singles more than these last couple of singles did.
I had this on in the background during my travels today and it sounded great - not worked out which track was which yet but there was nothing that I didn't like, so pleased she's receiving such amazing reviews
Really enjoying this, very varied throughout, I'm Fine and John Elton my early favourites of the newer ones, a step up from what was a strong debut. She has a phenomenal voice live, the acoustic versions were so good
I've been listening to this on repeat this morning and it really is potential album of the year material. I really thought Laura Mvula would be my favourite pop album of 2021 but this is topping it, it's just such a unique balance of power, vulnerability and honesty with really refreshing production throughout.
Album of the year for me, I'm Fine is outstanding in particular of the new songs!
I only discovered her the other day, after reading the five star review in The Guardian, and slowly making my way through the album now. I Do This All The Time is so good and so clever! I'm loving her style and her lyrics, very glad I read the review otherwise I don't think I would have known about her.

Prioritise Pleasure is the main highlight here (definitely competing for the best song of 2021 spot for me) but her non-singles are also very good. f***ing Wizardry and Hobbies 2 sound amazing.

I also agree Self Esteem has strong live vocals, as she sounds stunning in a potato-quality live recording :o

I'm trying to keep up with the critically acclaimed albums this year so gave this listen (and I really liked I Do This All the Time from BJSC), it's a really impressive album, very varied in sound (there's Kate Bush and Kanye West soundalikes here!) and the lyrics feel very honest and personal, I love the huge production and choir that surrounds a lot of the tracks. the songs towards the end like John Elton and the 345 feel much more heartfelt and I really enjoyed them.

The positive reviews I've seen for this album made me give it a spin. Initially I wasn't sure what the f*** I was listening to, but the album clicked quickly.

f***ing Wizardry is massive, absolutely love it.

I Do This All The Time, very different. I relate to so much of the lyrics (some not so much).

Moody is fantastic, as is Still Reigning.

Fantastic album from start to finish. It feels fresh and not like anything out at the moment (at least that I'm listening to).

Completing my marathon of finally listening to 5(!) albums that were dropped on 22/10

I think the first two singles are remaining my 2 favourites on here, they both sound a lot more bold and unique than the rest of it which largely sounds like a fairly standard pop album (not to say that it's samey because it definitely isn't, there's a good amount of variation, it just doesn't really reach anywhere near as leftfield territory as 'I Do This All The Time' and 'Prioritise Pleasure' did which I find a little disappointing). Was still worth a listen for a few further highlights, 'You Forever' is my favourite of the new songs, another good addition to the recent 80s trend and can definitely see it being an earworm, other highlights were 'Hobbies 2', 'Still Reigning' and 'Fucking Wizardry'. A little better overall than I was expecting.

The Guardian has named I Do This All The Time as their best song of the year! Very deserved.

Great to see her getting such recognition, fully deserved. I saw her live show last week and it was absolutely superb, up there with the best live performances I've seen. She and her band also did I'm Fine for The Late Show
