Love Red Blooded Woman, very underrated Kylie single imo. Toxic was still the worthy winner though. Wasn't George Michael's Amazing also considered a contender for the top spot that week but had to settle for #4. Also obligatory shoutout to the dire sales of 2004.

Also Achy Breaky Heart is a bop and i'm not ashamed to say that.

'Achy Breaky Heart' is a lowkey bop I can't lie xx

Also love 'Red Blooded Woman', one of my faves from Kylie. And 'Miami' also a tune x

Had no idea that Radiohead song sold so much!

80. SUPERMARKET FLOWERS- Ed Sheeran (48,711) #8

Sheeran said of the song that it was based on real life when his grandmother was Ill “"She was in a hospital near my house where I was making the album so I saw her quite a lot while making the album and she passed away while I was in the studio. So that's my first reaction for anything that happens to me, good or bad, pick up a guitar." After playing it at her funeral it made the album at the instance of his grandfather. Nothing peaked lower in the chart than this track on this rundown.

79. IF ONLY I COULD- Sydney Youngblood (66,000) #3

Having the bad misfortune to come up against Technotronic and Black Box (both ending up in the top 10 of the year) it was a shame that subsequent releases followed the pattern of diminishing returns but at least “If Only I Could” gave him a moment in pop history. It extensively sampled the Raze top 30 hit “Break 4 Love”.

78. HELP- Bananarama Featuring Lananeeneenoonoo (66,000) #3

Pete Waterman’s long held admiration for the Lennon-McCartney songwriting skills meant that when S/A/W were tasked with doing the comic relief song for 1989 they chose this Beatles track. Roping in Bananarama as well as French & Saunders and the fabulous Kathy Burke it was a success and gave the Nana’s their final top 10 hit.

#8 wow, that must be the lowest charting song on the countdown so far, right?

What's more, that sale for Supermarket Flowers was from its opening week at #9 (when the Divide album came out) - so there must be a few more Ed Sheeran songs to come in this countdown, including another #8. What Do I Know? appears to have just missed out too.

Not sure whether 2020 counts in this, but I'd expected the #3 peaking Rain and possibly Dynamite to have featured at 11/12 weeks.

If Only I Could is good, but Break 4 Love (a very recent hit when it was sampled) is better. That version of Help is (unfortunately) the first one I heard of the Beatles song.

Go figure that that Ed album bomb would produce several appearances on this list  an impact which I think hasn't really been matched since even in a universe where it didn't cause the introduction of the 3 track rule.

Yes they would but 2020 doesn't feature- so my subtitle was incorrect! I've altered it. :D

Just done a quick check and the two you mention would have been the only 2020 inclusions "Rain" at 12 weeks and "Dynamite" at 11 weeks.

I shamelessly love Bananarama & Lananeeneenoonoo's version of 'Help' :D 'If Only I Could' is a classic too
Unashamedly love 'Supermarket flowers' - lot better than some of the higher peaking Divide tracks. Yes its sentimental but in a touching affecting way. Glad they kind of released it as a single eventually, although way too late to get another peak.

Otherwise known as “Get Down For Real” in case you wondered, it was released in the US back in October 14 but took until April 15 to peak at No 8 there whilst almost going top 3 here. It lead midweek before being overtaken by the Comic Relief single from Sam Smith and (at the death) by Years & Years.

Proving not for the first time what we’ve found to be true countless times after, namely that created a show to showcase a set of singers and getting it shown on primetime leads to be substantive sales. BBC 1 decision to air the “Fame” series saw a phenomenon born if only really for 6 months. This sale whilst the single sat at lowly No 4 position before it rose a spot the following week.

75.I WON’T LET YOU DOWN- PhD (88,000) #3

Naming the band after the initials of the surnames of the members, PhD were a short lived vehicle for Jim Diamond before he struck out solo. This was their only hit single and was just 11,000 off the pace set at the top by Eurovision winner Nicole, Diamond would have to wait 2 more years before finally hitting the top with “I Should Have Known Better”.
