So overpriced... but I still went and ordered the vinyl anyway 🙃

Excited to hear 'Feel Your Love' in full!

Same! It's a bit above what I was willing to spend, but I couldn't resist so got myself the bundle :cheer: Will be delivered a few days before my 30th birthday, so I can see it as a nice present for myself.

The cassette and vinyl were back in stock for a couple of hours on their Web store but are sold out again now. I feel like getting hold of a cassette will be increasingly tough as the days go on.
I don't like the cassette design at all but that EMI brand got me lol, the vinyl is okay. Look at the prices and still sold out. Imagine if they make the effort, something like the new album.

It is quite weird how quickly it sold out, both vinyl and cassette. I am glad I managed to get them!!

It is also still #1 on Amazon Vinyl which is really good right? Remember that they also didnt have a website-store for the previous vinyl releases either...

Surely this gives them the opportunity to do more

It will definitely be more successful than Spiceworld/Forever vinyls. It has a new track, 2 formats, EP, Wannabe does good streaming numbers any way. There will be more promotion towards the anniversary and it's release.

The I am a Spice Girl thing is pretty dumb. It's basically I am A Spice Girls fan with people just showing how big a fan or long time they have been fans. The constant retweets on twitter from it are super annoying.

If it was truly I am a Spice Girl it would have better for people to highlight things they've achieved and done, like running a marathon holding their medal or passing exams. Basically being a Spice Girl means chasing your dreams and achieving them.

With it sold out do you think they will put more into production?

Hopefully!

Full back cover, from their instagram story:

When Mel B was on GMB the other week and said new music and a tour this is what she meant. The plan is to get touring next year hopefully and for UMC and their team to sort releases with bonus material and unseen stuff over the next 2 years to compliment that. It's a sort of 2 year plan where the tour slots into it. The movie will be re-released, Spice, Spiceworld. It's a celebration of the spice mania time.

You've already got a Mama lyric video with unseen footage and a new song on the Wannabe vinyl. Hopefully they keep it up and it all keeps going to plan.

This sounds like a great plan, fingers crossed it’s working out.

I've ordered the cassette on Dutch website bol.com

I agree tbh, it's not ended up being a particularly inspired project. Honestly I'm not very interested in seeing fan content on their social media.

Essentially the same thing happening for a This Morning segment tomorrow:

Yeah, it's a bit of a meh project to be honest. I don't much care for it. We've been doing that for years ourselves lol

I just hope it improves their social media counts. It's a shame they are far from breaking 1milion on twitter and instagram and the more activity the more their reach will grow. So at least there's that?... -_-

The wording is unfortunate, yes. I get it. The fans also belong in the group, is the ultimate message. But it somehow feels a bit flat. Just like their 2018 t-shirt #IWANNABEASPICEGIRL which was just a bit lame wasn't it?... And then their latest t-shirt with Victoria and the awkward 'Proud and Wannabe your lover'...

I don't know, it feels somehow they are trying to catch a good PR line but it's falling a bit flat to me...

Basically they've made a mess, the first batch has sold out on their website and a 2nd batch won't ship till at least the 30th now so in the next charting week. So they are trying to direct people to HMV and other sites whose sales and allocation are from the original batch so will ship for the 23rd.

I mean great that it's obviously exceeded expectations but they've had so long to get this right and to be in a position where it's looking like the digital/streaming will be the 9th, first batch of physicals 23rd and second batch 30th is frankly a disaster.

There is a spice re-release coming too. Why they couldn't have gone big on numbers for wannabe vinyl and receded any left over stock or make bundles with Spice in November is beyond me.

Surely Wannabe is way over 7 million by now? It’s been on 7 million since 1998… since then it’s sold what 500k in the U.K. it went from 1 million to 2.9 million in the USA… I’d say it was on around 9-10 million by now?

To be fair, that did specify 7 million physical copies (of which I can't imagine it's done a great deal more of since 1998)

Like I said in my post above it went from 1 million on the 90s in the USA to 2.9 million copies so that’s nearly 2 million copies there since 1998. Then we’ve found out it’s now over 2 million in the U.K. from 1.3 million so that’s another additional 700k. That’s already 9.6 million worldwide from those two bumps alone…

Since the 90s it’s gone from Gold in Germany (250k) to platinum (500k) in 2018. Also it went Gold in Japan in 2011 for 100k digital sales. It was also certified Platinum in Italy (digital and streaming) as it was already 6x plat back in the 90s. And lastly it would have sold a few copies back in the 90s, but it was certified gold in 2018 for sales of 45k.

As for the U.S. it was at 1.8m by the end of 1997 and as of 2014 it was 2.91m

It will easily be over 10 million by now I would have thought, excluding streams.

I think if handled right they have opportunities to bump album sales with new editions etc whuch will also help increase single sales but they need to get the release right. This Wannabe release is great for the fans and a nice treat (despite the price) but its release seems very messy.

Are those with downloads/streams added though? As I can't imagine it's sold 2.6m physical copies since 1998.

After 1998 most of Wannabe sales probably did start again until the mid 2000s when the digital era took hold. Any paid for sales that Wannabe has done in the last 15 years will be downloads.
