04. Alexander Ryback - Fairytale

05. Conchita Wurst - Rise Like A Phoenix

06. Eimear Quinn - The Voice

07. Loreen - Euphoria

08. Salvador Sobral - Amar Pelos Dois

Oh this is hard!

I have a top 15 really but to narrow down to top 10:

1) Loreen - Euphoria

2) Brotherhood of Man - Save Your Kisses For Me

3) Ruslana - Wild Dances

4) Celine Dion - Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi

5) Netta - Toy

6) Emmelie De Forest - Only Teardrops

7) Conchita Wurst - Rise Like A Phoenix

8) Ell and Nikki - Running Scared

9) Alexander Rybak - Fairytale

10) Duncan Laurence - Arcade

ABBA and Bucks Fizz are just outside the top 10!

01 Take Me To Your Heaven

02 Vivo Cantando

03 Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi

04 Fangad Av En Stormvind

05 Diva

06 Making Your Mind Up

07 Tu Te Reconnaitras

08 My Number One

09 Running Scared

10 J'aime La Vie

Bubbling Under: Save All Your Kisses For Me, Hallelujah, In Your Eyes, Every Way That I Can, Toy, Euphoria, Arcade, Believe, Love Shine A Light, Hold Me Now. So basically a top 20 - though the order of those outside the top 10 isn't set.

Much as I'm sure will be the case with others and despite how much I love ABBA I just don't care for Waterloo that much. It's iconic but ABBA surpassed it so utterly.

huh, Lordi is #1 still, though...

01 Hard Rock Hallelujah

02 Nocturne

03 1944

04 ZITTI E BUONI

05 Wild Dances

06 Satellite

07 Love Shine A Light

08 Euphoria

09 Waterloo

10 Diva

also really considered 'Molitva', 'A-Ba-Ni-Bi' and 'Rise Like A Phoenix' in there.

not into the narrative of this thread - Waterloo is classic ABBA. Ukraine's winners are godly representations of their successful Eurovision experimentation, 'Satellite' especially stands out among the pop songs for Lena's personality, 'Love Shine A Light' is UK's hymnal of a final winner.

Oh 'Love Shine A Light' wouldn't be too far off for me either - there was something in the air for the latter half of the 90s *.*

1. Loreen - Euphoria

2. Lena - Satellite

3. Mans Zelmerlow - Heroes

4. Alexander Rybak - Fairytale

5. Tanel Padar, Dave Benton & 2XL - Everybody (I swear I'm the only big fan in the world of this)

6. Katrina and the Waves - Love Shine A Light

7. Ruslana - Wild Dances

8. Helena Paparizou - My Number One

9. Emmelie De Forest - Only Teardrops

10. Eimear Quinn - The Voice (Ireland's least loved winner, and my favourite <3)

I was going to make a 'almost' list but it had like 20-25 songs on it. The only winners from the past 40 years I actively do not listen to are Believe and Running Scared which are so flat and generic that they should have both DNQ'd. I Wanna too but it at least has a tacky nostaligic charm to it 'ay-yi-yi-yi-yah'.

Much as I'm sure will be the case with others and despite how much I love ABBA I just don't care for Waterloo that much. It's iconic but ABBA surpassed it so utterly.

Yeah, it's tedious that it's always voted Eurovision's best ever song, as it is very much nowhere near. ABBA are easily the best act to have ever come out of Eurovision, but that doesn't mean this was the contest's best entry by a long shot. It's a genius, iconic song but they even surpassed it themselves with at least 15 other tracks, such was their brilliance.

01. Helena Paparizou - My Number One (Greece 2005)

02. Jamala - 1944 (Ukraine 2016)

03. Loreen - Euphoria (Sweden 2012)

04. Marija Šerifović - Molitva (Serbia 2007)

05. Dana International - Diva (Israel 1998)

06. Ruslana - Wild Dances (Ukraine 2004)

07. Sertab Erener - Everyway That I Can (Turkey 2003)

08. The Olsen Brothers - Fly On The Wings Of Love (Denmark 2000)

09. Charlotte Nilsson - Take Me To Your Heaven (Sweden 1999)

10. Grethe & Jørgen Ingmann - Dansevise (Denmark 1963)

Bubbling under: Non ho l'età (Italy 1964), Vivo cantando (Spain 1969), Tu te reconnaîtras (Luxembourg 1973), Hallelujah (Israel 1979), La det swinge (Norway 1985), Ne partez pas sans moi (Switzerland 1988), Nocturne (Norway 1995), Only Teardrops (Denmark 2013), Rise Like A Phoenix (Austria 2014), Toy (Israel 2018)

I would only say the top 7 would be set in stone, the others could easily switch around with those bubbling under but that feels right today.

1. Katrina and the Waves - Love Shine a Light

2. Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah

3. Emmelie De Forest - Teardrops

4. Måns Zermelöw - Heroes

5. Måneskin - ZITTE E Buoni

6. Helena Paparizou - My Number One

7. Duncan Laurence - Arcade

8. Conchita Wurst - Rise Like A Phoenix

9. Diva International - Diva

10. Loreen - Euphoria

Agreed on 'Waterloo' not being ABBA's best song.

1. Dana - All Kinds Of Everything (Ireland - 1970)

4. Nicole - A Little Peace (Germany - 1982)

5. Bucks Fizz - Making Your Mind Up (United Kingdom - 1981)

Well my first eurovision was 1967 Puppet On A String so you'd imagine I'd be banging on about all those classic British wins from the past....

Not so much.

1. 1964 – Italy, ‘Non ho l’eta’ performed by Gigliola Cinquetti

2. 2019 – Netherlands, ‘Arcade’ performed by Duncan Laurence

3. 2009 – Norway, ‘Fairytale’ performed by Alexander Rybak

4. 2013 – Denmark, ‘Only Teardrops’ performed by Emmelie de Forest

5. 2012 – Sweden, ‘Euphoria’ performed by Loreen

6. 2015 – Sweden ‘Heroes’ performed by Mans Zelmerlow

7. 1974 – Sweden, ‘Waterloo’ performed by ABBA

8. 2011 – Azerbaijan, ‘Running Scared’ performed by Ell & Nikki

9. 1995 – Norway, ‘Nocturne’ performed by Secret Garden

10. 2010 – Germany, ‘Satellite’ performed by Lena

So, bit of a Scandi-block thing going on, the winners from the last 12 years are amongst the best of all-time, and while Abba may not be Abba's best by a long chalk, and it's overplayed, it gave us Pop Royalty, a Swedish music industry and it was a huge hit in countries that don't have a clue what Eurovision is.

Mind you, about another 15 I wanted to list...

Non Ho L'Eta Per Amarti is still the best though, 57 years later... :P

7. 1974 – Sweden, ‘Waterloo’ performed by ABBA

:o

John, it's unpredictably very low position for such big ABBA fan like you.

7. Germany "Satellite" Lena

8. United Kingdom "Making Your Mind Up" Bucks Fizz

9. Italy "Zitti e buoni" Måneskin

10. Germany "Ein bißchen Frieden" Nicole

:o

John, it's unpredictably very low position for such big ABBA fan like you.

Yes, I still love it - but I've overdosed on it. I'd rather hear Ring Ring or So Long, other 1974 singles that don't get played much or at all... :D

1. Euphoria - Loreen

2. Zitti e buoni - Maneskin

3. Rise Like a Phoenix - Conchita Wurst

4. Love Shine a Light - Katrina and the Waves

1. 1964 – Italy, ‘Non ho l’eta’ performed by Gigliola Cinquetti

I've been spending a bit more time with all the winners and this one has really hit me out of nowhere now, really beautiful

I see she's still alive and in her 70s - I wonder if she'll make a brief appearance in Italy next year?

How unfortunate that her second Eurovision appearance was up against ABBA!

1. Lena - Satellite (Germany - 2010)

2. Ruslana - Wild Dances (Ukraine - 2004)

3. Helena Paparizou - My Number One (Greece - 2005)

4. Charlotte Nilsson - Take Me To Your Heaven (Sweden - 1999)

5. Carola - Fangad Av En Stormvind (Sweden - 1991)

6. Dana International - Diva (Israel - 1998)

7. Grethe & Jorgen Ingmann - Dansevise (Denmark - 1963)

8. Sandie Shaw - Puppet On A String (United Kingdom - 1967)

9. Loreen - Euphoria (Sweden - 2012)

10. Nicole - Ein Bisschen Frieden (Germany - 1982)

I couldn't choose out of so many classics so I let my Last.fm stats decide for me.

However my all time favourite winner is Sertab Erener - Everyway That I Can (Turkey - 2003) I just prefer the live version to anything Spotify has to offer.
