Tell you what, as much as I hate to, IF England beat Germany there's a massive chance football's coming home. Definitely got the easier side of the draw.

It was always likely to be a group that saw a lot of chopping and changing but it was less obvious that Hungary would play their full part. At one point I was hoping that Gareth Southgate and his coaching team would be wearing rainbow flag suits on Tuesday.
Well that was both a very eventful and very uneventful couple of hours. Almost every goal changed the order of the table but at the end of the night it still ends up exactly the same as it was to begin with.

France, Belgium, Italy and Portugal all on the same side of the knockouts(!)

Whoever wins of England and Germany looks to have the relatively easy route to the final.

England can’t score more than one goal And couldn’t even beat Scotland. Germany put 4 past Portugal. Football is most certainly not coming home.

A couple of fireworks in Mitte to celebrate sending Hungary packing. Thanks for the early birthday gift DFB!

So now England will play Germany then.

And if England beat Germany they will face Sweden or Ukraine, looks like they are going down the easy route

Football's a funny old game though :D Germany haven't kept a clean sheet yet and have conceded 2 goals a game. Reckon Southgate will bore us all to death and stifle out the wing backs from Germany, but that's probably for a different thread!

Only one against France, that *we* scored!! 😅

Problem is what Germany appears. If it’s the one that played France it’s gonna be a real dull game. The one that turned up against Portugal will thrash England. See if some lessons are learned from tonight. Potential here for Germany to reach the final and that would be a drastic overachievement for the manager who has been woeful the last couple of years

I think England will need to really play alot better than they have been if they are to beat the Germans.
Germany v Portugal one of the worst managerial performances you'll see really, an obvious problem and Santos did absolutely nothing to try and counteract it. Southgate absolutely won't do that, either three at the back or Henderson added to the midfield, maybe with Bellingham instead of Phillips. Of the three most likely teams England were to face, Germany are the one I think are most beatable but also make me the most nervous, just praying for positive ticket news now!

Well that's the problem with Germany isnt it? Lowe is out of ideas and has been for some time. Could easily be the Germany that got beat by North Macedonia or beaten 6-0 by Spain along with the team that played really well against Portugal. At least England are consistently dull.

Think you could be on to something with the 352 - it would solve the Mount problem and allow Saka on the left.

Some mouthwatering fixtures in the next round then with Portugal vs Belgium and of course the old England vs Germany battle recommences. With it at Wembley have to make England favourites as Germany haven’t really had a fluid team in the past couple of year due to Lowe overstaying his welcome but it still wouldn’t surprise me to see Germany winning that and the tournament they way football is and they are a winning nation in tournament football.

Sad to see Hungary out, they played well above their level in this impossible group for them. Although in a non footballing sense glad they are out but doesn’t mean all Hungarians are homophobic just behind the values of more Western European nations.

What a roller-coaster ride this was, with England at different points due to play every team in this group!

Was really hoping for Hungary to hold out just for the massive underdog result in the group of death and to "presumably" have given England an easier match (though after what happened in 2016 no chickens would have been counted). Sigh that we've got Germany as I can't see anything other than a defeat. We certainly have the team to beat them but the whole squad & manager are just gonna get stage fright, I can see it now.

I was looking back at England's records in tournaments and we haven't beaten a top team since Argentina in 2002 by my reckoning. Not a good sign.

Group of Death?!!

If we ignore tournaments where a group was labelled the "Group Of Death" simply because there was a feeling that every tournament should have one, I'm not sure whether there is a precedent for all qualifiers from that group losing in the first knock-out round. This one did seem like it deserved the tag but perhaps many of us were wrong.

Portugal & Germany did have tough games that could have gone either way tbf, so the only real shock was France being eliminated.
