Last set before the all important top 40 and we are set to lose another lead single! :o

I was quite disappointed with American Life after Music (though to be honest I was disappointed with Music after Ray of Light). The lead was so badly received and it felt like she had thrown away everything she had regained. I thought Hollywood might help her out a bit, but looking back it's quite a bland and repetitive listen.

 

I always expected Girl Gone Wild to maybe bring her back as well after Give Me All Your Luvin' stalled, but it wasn't meant to be. As much as I love it and think it's a stonking track, it was probably too generic to be considered for the lead.

 

Looking at what's left, I wonder if we're about to lose You'll See? Can't picture any of the other leads dropping just yet (unless Celebration is considered a "lead").

I really love the Girl Gone Wild it's such a amazing video.

The video for GGW is fab. She looks incredible! :wub:

The title track for Madonna's 3rd studio album drops out here. True Blue was the album's third single and centres on her feelings for her then-husband Sean Penn - the title itself is taken from a saying and sentiment that Penn upheld within his own vision of love. The song is uplifting and joyous and remisicent of a doo-wop style signifying the pure joy she felt in her relationship. It became a #1 single in the UK and top 3 in the US! Next we have Rescue Me which was never planned to be a single, but its strong radio appeareances meant it eventually went on to become a single from The Immaculate Collection greatest hits compilation. A dance-pop rave of a song, it is about love rescuing Madonna and denouncing its power. Finally, the lead single from Erotica is out. It contains spoken word vocals, and is an ode to S&M. In the song, Madonna uses a pseudonym called "Dita", a provocative mistress that implores her lover to blur the boundaries between pleasure and pain. Both this and the former song were co-produced by Madonna and Shep Pettibone.

Rescue Me and to a lesser extent Erotica are big losses. True Blue is about right~ the other two </3

I fear that tracks that I don't rate so highly like non-fan-favorite 'Like A Prayer' will end up doing well in this poll, while the brilliant gems like Rescue Me have fallen too early. I've had a similar experience with 'Erotica' - when I first checked out the majority of Madonna's back catalogue, this was one I really didn't think much of. I grew to like it but in the past year or so I've realised just how great a statement it is. Love the hypnotic, gritty production and the way Madonna sings with such confidence and allure. Much love for the Confessions Tour mix of 'You Thrill Me'; that was my first step towards liking the original. Another early demo of the song - 'Love Hurts' - is great too.

 

'Rescue Me' deserved higher. I guess receiving no video or live performance is always going to put a ceiling on the recognition the song will get, but it really is one of her best. I like how it cherry-picks elements of Madonna's big hits from 1989/90 and the vocals are just heavenly.

 

'True Blue' has always been a big favourite of mine, very saccharine for Madonna but I think she really pulls it off. I was so pleased when she brought it back for the Rebel Heart Tour.

I genuinely disliked 'True Blue' up until about 2 years ago, now it's a go-to for me.

 

'Erotica' is incredible.

I really like True Blue it's really amazing song. I love it.
