July 8, 20214 yr It’s a shame tomorrow’s actual streams won’t count - will that go against the football songs do we think? Do Thursdays streams not count to the chart?? I assumed everything up until midnight Friday morning counted towards Friday afternoons chart?
July 8, 20214 yr they do count but Spotify delivers the data so late that the OCC cannot use the real Thu data and instead the estimate it... they use a machine learning method so it's pretty accurate on a normal Thursday but with Football songs it's kinda difficult to predict, so not sure what the algorithm is gonna say

Spotify get their data out on a day's lag compared to other companies, and as the OCC insist on having their chart published on Friday, they simply estimate said data.

If England lost then all those eurphoric post-match streams would simply not exist. Imagine trying to predict that for chart purposes, when you didn't even know the result? July 8, 20214 yr Ahh I see that makes more sense. I think if England win on Sunday three lions will be the official number 1 the following Friday, no question about it. Even Ed won’t be able to stop it.
July 8, 20214 yr Not that sure, would people listen/stream the song the week after? Isn't a bit like Xmas, that once it's done everybody abandons Xmas songs til the next time
July 8, 20214 yr I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but I think it will get streamed like mad consistently for that whole week IF they win, obviously if they loose it will stop getting streamed.

Isn't a bit like Xmas, that once it's done everybody abandons Xmas songs til the next time No it's not like Xmas songs at all, if we win then people will be talking about it for days afterwards and streaming the song. Even then i'm still not entirely convinced it would get to number one with ease but we'll have to wait and see.

Yeh this is correct it’ll be in the news for the whole week with trophy presentations etc!

July 8, 20214 yr Spotify get their data out on a day's lag compared to other companies, and as the OCC insist on having their chart published on Friday, they simply estimate said data. And there's not a valid explanation about why Spotify and/or OCC can't get their shit together and actually use the proper number of streams (I mean it's an electronic streaming platform in 2021) is there?
July 8, 20214 yr And there's not a valid explanation about why Spotify and/or OCC can't get their shit together and actually use the proper number of streams (I mean it's an electronic streaming platform in 2021) is there? No, the reason remains a mystery. Similarly, the details of the algorithm they use to estimate streams are unknown although there is a specific provision for them not simply taking the average from the previous six days. That means they may be able to use the streaming trend from the sites that can get their act together and apply that same trend to Spotify and the rest.
July 8, 20214 yr The OCC have also probably just decided that any sort of inaccuracy that comes about from not reporting this correctly isn't worth the fuss since their estimate is close enough (or maybe because Throwback Thursday's former prominence was an inconvenience that could be ironed out as a second bird for their stone).
July 8, 20214 yr It’s a pretty shoddy situation to still be having to guesstimate an entire days sales from the biggest share of the market in 2021. Have to admit I wasn’t even clued up about this or how it works exactly but if they do take into account the 'sales' from other streaming platforms in their calculations then that would swing in the football songs favour as they are all topping Amazon.

They'd never admit it but it wouldn't surprise me if this plausible deniability is a convenient work around to intentionally nullify this evident effect. It was during a run for the top for Three Lions in 2018 that they introduced its mandatory ACR after all.
July 8, 20214 yr It is a thing that happens literally every week, I don't think they're galaxy brain enough to plan years in advance to slightly misrepresent football songs in the case of England winning a football match on a Wednesday evening :kink: I really don't think it's any deeper than them just not wanting to delay the publication of their charts to Saturday.

Oh I know that the chart release date is the main intent, but the decision to do so comes with the implication that any collateral damage in way of accuracy is not worthwhile enough to accommodate. It's impossible to not have personal biases come into play when chart rules are decided, especially when it's so multi-faceted like it is nowadays.
July 8, 20214 yr on a normal week there is no issue, actually Thursday streams are super easy to predict, basically they're identical to Wed streams only slightly lower but in a week like this, I wouldn't know myself what to predict to be honest...
July 8, 20214 yr I hope Atomic Kitten can make a return to the top 40. If not tomorrow, then definitely next week
