Aww I love Normativity, I wasn't expecting it to qualify but a shame to see it so far off. I ranked it 3rd but gave it 12 tactically as I thought the two above it would breeze through.

Iiii don't know if this is supposed to be shade or not

...but very happy to be through :cheer: my streak is back up to 8 in a row yay, thanks guys

Not shade on you  I aimed to make all the assignments dependent on the artist/song rather than the country. And it's not even shade on the character, she's young and fantastic fun given she's just a kid.

Haha thanks for clarifying  she seems cool, love the effort!

Lotunia and N DNTN were both huge highlights of semi 2, fab to have them both through

A little surprised to have Suedeonia through but also a pretty good song (and ending a fairly lengthy DNQ run so we love to see it, Flynnonda next pls etc. x)

Still hoping Flynnonda will get their qualifier soon :( Suedeonia defying the odds tho :o

Fate franchise

It’s been a while since I talked about the Fate franchise, largely because despite prequel Fate/Zero being one of the best anime ever and original story Stay/Night being quite stellar, Fate/Apocrypha was not and it’s very easy to fall behind so I haven’t actually watched any since 2017, though I want to rewatch Zero some time. Zero sourced my old entry kalafina ‘To The Beginning’, and Apocrypha sourced EGOIST ‘Eiyuu Unmei No Uta’.

Anyway, due to its premise of bringing legendary and mythological characters from the past, Fate has no shortage of charismatic characters with their own backstory and is the 4th-most represented grouping here.

Varakë is assigned possibly the most central Fate character, Saber, otherwise known as a genderbent King Arthur, who leads the protagonist team in any incarnation of Fate in which she is present. I was naïve and took the straight translation of Колёса at face value, choosing Saber as she notably has some ‘wheels’ (motorbike) as her ‘steed’. Anime characters don’t do drugs. Mostly.

Aeroche, looking to ‘Break The Chain’ were assigned Rider, or Medusa, who fights with a chain. Caerfyrddia were assigned Mordred, the genderbent son/daughter (idk) of Saber because of the clearly Celtic name of the artist, though I could have also used one of the Irish lancers who appear in the series (Cú Chulainn/Diarmuid Ua Duibhne) and that might have even been more appropriate.

One of the main classes of fighter in Fate is Archer, so I assigned Kylienips’ FLETCHER one of those, Atalanta, from Greek mythology, and for Aquafina, Kotomine Kirei, a representative of the Church and clearly the most prominent anime priest that I could think of for Ewan McVicar.

Anyway, how many of these are through? All of them? None of them?

First up, Varakë is through to put drug innuendos with poor innocent Saber’s name another day, and Aeroche have not broken the chain of their qualifiers, whatever that’s up to now, as they are also through!

Caerfyrddia unfortunately did not make it through, finishing 21st in Semi Final H with 41 points, again, 3 points off the qualifying line. Kylienips did, and will be performing again in the final.

Varakë a diet banger, great to see it through! (Also makes it 3 qualifiers in a row for the first time ever for Varakë iirc... speaking of which I am going to absolutely make sure I remember to post the qualification streak list this month I promise xox)
What?? I thought Caerfyrddia is a safe qualifier :o :o Decent pop song it is

And finally, Aquafina…. did make it through, congratulations Lee, Ewan McVicar is safe!

Technofina finally qualifying we love to see it x (I did think 'Street Rave' was a little better than this one tbh but they're both good so happy to see that one of them made it at least)
Sad Ghosty didn't make it :( I think that made my points, it was definitely borderline making it if not

K-On!

Something a bit fluffier perhaps? K-On! Is a series that is about four cute moeblobs of girls; I think it defined the ironic term ‘moeblob’ – for cute characters where the story is mostly about them being cute with no overarching drive. Though like all trope makers, it is the best of that sort, four girls trying to start a rock band in their school and mostly ending up distracted by tea and cake but occasionally doing live shows. Three of the four are represented here. Ritsu, the drummer, isn’t.

Niceland has Yui Hirasawa, a singer/guitar player who mostly got this for being sweet and into music, so the artist name of ‘Stereo Honey’.

Vülkyria, well, apparently Francesca Michielin plays bass, so you get bass player Mio Akiyama, and Kluminican Republic gets keyboard player Tsumugi Kotobuki because, as well as K-On being a great fit in style for K3, both her and K3 have pretty strong associations with the blonde lobby.

Also, both Vülkyria and Kluminican Republic have former winners being represented, which is nicely serendipitous. And now I’m going to start giving slightly specific (but still kinda vague) stats. Either two of these three have qualified, or all three have. Is it a clean sweep for K-On, or is one going home?
