As for Vülkyria and Kluminican Republic, Vülkyria is through and will take Francesca Michielin to her second final. Unfortunately, especially for all fans of schlager, K3 will not be advancing. ‘Ushuaia’ finished 28th in Semi Final H with 22 points.

Fingers crossed for Vulkyria but it's a great entry for Niceland so happy it's through!
how many qualifiers is that for semi 2 so far? this is not looking good for my chances

We've had 12 qualifiers and 4 DNQs from semi 2 so far (up to the Niceland reveal), so still a slightly greater than 50% chance of qualifying from what's left x (I need this hope for myself, you'll be fine)

I'm obviously not the target audience for K3 anyway but I did think that 'Ushuaia' kind of lacked the magic that '10.000 Luchtballonnen' had, eep ~

Other Kyo-Ani Shows (Haruhi Suzumiya + Nichijou)

One of the most beloved anime studios, Kyoto Animation (who made K-On! just before this) just recently returned to TV animation after suffering a tragic arson attack on their studio in 2019. Thankfully it seems they’ve come back strong, and their commitment to delivering wholesome, cute and funny anime continues. Because they have a specific style, I’m grouping two other characters associated with them together.

Yuki Nagato (from The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya) is many things, but her first name means ‘snow’, and this picture is from an emotional scene where she was watching snow falling, so Utopia.

Meanwhile for FSR Rontvia, ThisIsNAMASTE is named after her initials NA MA STE, but it’s also an Indian greeting, so I used Yuuko Aioi, the protagonist of comic sketch show Nichijou (‘My Ordinary Life’), who has one trait of greeting her classmates with ‘Selamat Pagi’ to be quirky (and forgive me for conflating Indians and Indonesians, this is more about the greeting thing).

This time, at least one is a non-qualifier. Is it both? Is one through and if so, which one?

Unfortunately, and I wish I could have helped them – even if I don’t think I’d have made the difference - Utopia is out and As December Falls suffered a wrong semi again, but they came relatively close. 23rd in Semi-Final H with 36 points.

FSR Rontvia is safely through with ‘I Like Your Face’.

I'm hoping that Utopia will make it but not sure I see FSR being a DNQ hmm ~

edit: aw. Utopia is the first that I've lost from my top 10 of either semi (sneaking in 10th place in semi 1).

Gintama

Irreverent adult comedy Gintama (‘Silver Soul’, also meant to conjure up allusions to ‘Kintama’ which literally means ‘gold balls’ but is actually the Japanese word for ‘testicles’) is possibly the only irreverent adult comedy that can make me laugh now, as occasionally it throws aside the toilet humour/genuinely funny antics for some properly good serious stories in its steampunk samurai world of late 19th century Tokyo. It does have some historical characters, but the three I’ve chosen are not and are all based on mythological tales.

Greenfroze gets main character Gintoki, a scoundrel jaded at the world who, while he’s probably het (gets more action than most anime leads I can tell you that), has a number of intimate relationships with men throughout the series also – and in any case is the clearest example of a ‘fella’ in anime that I could think of. So, ‘rainin’ fellas’.

Hendinia gets tritagonist Kagura. Now, Peking Duk sound Chinese but they’re not, they’re Australian. Kagura looks and dresses like a Chinese girl but is not, she’s an amazingly powerful and strong alien from a warrior clan. Same thing.

Persephonia have Tsukuyo, one of the best characters in the show and her name, based on the Japanese mythological moon goddess, means ‘moon-song’, so ‘Moon Glider’.

Either one or two of these have qualified. There is one DNQ and one Q, and one unknown.

Feel like Hendinia is the safe one here, but hoping Greenfroze doesn't get cursed by PFSC 👀

Greenfroze is out, Todrick couldn’t muster up the midtable (right?) support he got in PFSC, and finishes 24th in Semi Final H with 32 points.

Hendinia is okay, as Peking Duk and Chemicals was in the top 20 of Semi Final Z. Now, how about Persephonia?
