Posted July 25, 20213 yr The lyrics are filthier than the guitar riff on this but I love it, so infectious. Can't believe there hasn't been a thread on this yet? Wet Leg are Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers - band from the Isle of Wight, and “Chaise Longue” is their debut single - out on Domino Records. Zd9jeJk2UHQ
July 25, 20213 yr It's not often we get somewhat known musical exports from the island! Lovely track :)
July 25, 20213 yr Eh, I can't seem to get into this even though I really want to like it. It wears its influences on its shoulder just a bit too much for me.
July 26, 20213 yr I first noticed this song a few months ago when it was being hyped up by people I follow on Twitter that I would never have expected to be commenting on new music, which is usually a good sign that it has the potential to have a crossover hit appeal. It's been hovering around the iTunes download chart the past few days, so I think it could turn into an actual chart hit by the end of the year. It's a great little song.
July 26, 20213 yr This is ok enough as a novelty. Not really sure why it's attracting so much attention for a band who seem to have sprung directly out of nowhere though, unless they just scrubbed any online presence they had prior to a few months ago. Highly suspicious xx (edit: actually they do have some older posts on Instagram and they've appeared at festivals before, suspicion somewhat lessened)
July 26, 20213 yr They picked up a bit of blog attention back in 2019 with a separate song (they made the weekly Fresh Faves on Fresh on The Net, a website I occasionally contribute to, at the time), which I presume garnered them enough attention to get signed to Domino. I presume if it wasn't for the pandemic they would have been building up a live presence over the course of 2020 instead of focusing on recording.
July 26, 20213 yr ^ with a song that is now scrubbed from the Internet  (and Googling it does not bring up very many *ahem* relevant results for fairly obvious reasons) I'm guessing the label must have instructed them to delete their older music and social media posts (aside from Instagram for some reason) or something? Unless they themselves want that to be forgotten and for them to be judged as a brand new band. It's all a little bit strange whatever the reason.
July 26, 20213 yr I see they performed at a small venue about 10 mins from me just a few days ago! Wish I'd heard about that happening before.
July 27, 20213 yr Author Eh, I can't seem to get into this even though I really want to like it. It wears its influences on its shoulder just a bit too much for me. You don't got the big D? : ( This is ok enough as a novelty. Highly suspicious xx (edit: actually they do have some older posts on Instagram and they've appeared at festivals before, suspicion somewhat lessened) Rhian used to record music as RHIAN: https://soundcloud.com/rhainmusic and then I believe recorded with fellow Isle of Wight band - Plastic Mermaids. It's getting huge attention probably because of the Domino backing and 6Music playlisting. I love it though.
July 27, 20213 yr The Domino thing has definitely helped them, got some decent support slots and a couple of festivals before anything was out. I do love it, it's the right blend of catchy without straying into annoying and lyrically funny without getting too cringe, the video is good and the guitars are superb. I am going to have to drag myself half way across the Isle of Wight to see them open the second stage on Day 4 which will be horrendous but worth it as it's a rarity for there to be something on that lineup I actually want to go and watch! August 2, 20213 yr This is actually a great song on first listen, I'm not crazy about the band name though. Have any other musical acts from the Isle of Wight ever charted?
August 3, 20213 yr This is actually a great song on first listen, I'm not crazy about the band name though. Have any other musical acts from the Isle of Wight ever charted? Level 42 are the most famous! They had 20 top 40s and 6 top 10s.
September 23, 20213 yr Following the success of their debut single 'Chaise Longue' Isle of Wight duo Wet Leg shall release their second single 'Wet Dream' on Tuesday! Hopefully it'll prove they're not just a one trick pony View this post on Instagram
September 30, 20213 yr Author Yes, and here's the video: tjpgJjdk52c Just as fun and insanely catchy as the debut and the iconic lyrics continue! The Buffalo '66 on DVD one especially. :D
October 29, 20213 yr Really enjoying this band currently with both songs in my PC top 75, the lyrics are brilliant!
October 29, 20213 yr 'Chaise Longue' was kind of fun but this second song feels like it's already stretching the gimmick too far (and attaching it to a much less interesting song). Eh.
