August 14, 20213 yr Aeroche's stats really look like they're just playing a different game to everyone else. I haven't heard much from Himera as an artist but he was the producer of Namasenda's 'I Could Die' (one of my Club Bizarre entries) so if his own work is anything close to that I am PERCHED. (also it's N DNTN so that means it's already nearly guaranteed to be great lbr)
August 14, 20213 yr So many people going dance this contest :o Ah, great month for me to do the same great to see my stats, might just copy them to my national thread so I don't forget!
August 14, 20213 yr Author Sorry for anyone waiting ages for theirs to be announced, imagine your nan trying to work out Zoom. That's me and these spreadsheets/links atm. CUMU137: SEMI-FINAL ID CHECKS: THE CLASS of 2011 Things get a bit weird here because the contest was a very different beast in '11 (not quite aligning to the calendar year), but we do have a lot of familiar names debuting here. We start with last month's hosts Séyetana - who have still yet to get a win under their belt - u wot?! This month they've mixed things up and gone for some pretty loud Norwegian hardcore rock, which we very much approve of. We've got some more dance from East Rukahavian who make a welcome return and Danæviia will be kicking off their 99th contest in P1 of Semi Final 1 with the laidback chilled dance vibe of “Where You Are”. We've also got Sarah El Gohary, independent Egyptian singer representing Quintessa with the experimental pop of “High”. There are also big-hitters Aquafina and Altyr Muunilinst (have I spelt that right?) who both have posted 20%+ hit rates (although the former has entered considerably fewer semis). Johnkm has gone with Norwegian singer Julie Bergan's epic sounding pop anthem “We're Coming Up” and Aquafina have opted for some more dance courtesy of Canadian electronic music duo Zeds Dead. Finally we have the Kluminican Republic who have gone for some gorgeous, sweeping melodic house for 137. ZNt-m2GqgYY QwZaKQ3hwVA HhpUfSSSyfw h3-qw44z014 QGgrYaamZqc RHKZ19wy2SU xF5PzY4b3eQ
August 14, 20213 yr Author CUMU137: SEMI-FINAL ID CHECKS: THE CLASS of 2010 (contests 23-30 inc.) The start of the 2010s sees just 1 debutant sticking with us and coming back to compete in 137. Caerfyrddia are just 1 contest away from the big 5-0 and their reward for staying the course is their own dedicated post in this month's reveal thread. The magestic and epic sounding “Rooted” from Casi & The Blind Harpist represents them this time around. 4YFhIfvqBgQ
August 14, 20213 yr Altyr Muunilinst following their actually inspired choice last month being a DNQ by running back to one of the most obvious possible artist choices. Truly shocked am I! Really like the stuff I have heard from Ben Böhmer up to this point so looking forward to hearing Klum Rep's entry, a little surprised it took so long for him to make an appearance in the contest. My song coming up in the next post then, curious to see what genre and BPM it has x
August 14, 20213 yr ooh interesting to see Ben Böhmer entered here the same contest I opt for melodic house too (not electropop as the stat card would otherwise have you believe). I'm familiar with the song too.
August 14, 20213 yr Author CUMU137: SEMI-FINAL ID CHECKS: THE CLASS of 2009 (contests 13-22 inc.) It's hard to think that there was a time before Bré - but there was - it was 2009 and in it we see debuts from Persephonia (formerly: egabbac ~), Greenfroze and Hendinia. For 137 Persephonia have opted for some heavy brutal bass on the thumping “Jour 1” which I very much approve of as it'll be pulsating that dance floor! You couldn't get a greater juxtaposition with entries as we have some more traditional summer sounding pop representing Greenfroze and Hendinia from Brynn Elliott and Loren Gray respectively. Also a 43% hit rate for Hendinia *flames*! UX7OLduONtk DC40U4jAHfc 1TBACIZ3OI0
August 14, 20213 yr The build up to New Lexico as part of the class of 2008 (i think?) is entirely appropriate x
August 14, 20213 yr Actually surprised there are so few fellow class of 2009ers still around! God I'm getting old in BJSC terms x though of course there's still 2 posts' worth of even older participants still to come ~ (haha at the contrast between me and Greenfroze/Hendinia being 2 of the most reliable pure pop nations) I wasn't sure what genre label I'd put on my song beyond just 'electronic', I suppose 'future garage' fits it well enough! ('UK bass' I am less sure on given the act in question is Canadian ) I thought that a Cumulonimbia contest would be a good time to wheel out some seedy 3am nightclub vibes which is something I don't do often enough despite usually being a big fan of those type of entries. (I nearly sent this song last month actually but it definitely feels more appropriate to have sent it now, not least because I know it's been a #1 in Kath's chart already and she's returned now after being absent last time :kink:) Discovered Hildegard due to it being a side project of Helena Deland who featured on my favourite song by JPEGMAFIA. Although this song sounds absolutely nothing like that JPEGMAFIA song or indeed any of Helena's solo work.
August 14, 20213 yr I have a feeling Hanne Mjoen's new song will be sent sooner or later but certainly this one is a lot better than the previous one sent to BJFest (I presume?) I hope it will finish high! Hyping for Julie Bergan's We're Coming Up! This is certainly one of the best if not the best song from her and I think this should send Altyr Muunilist back to the final. I also remember Rooted a few years ago -- such a great ballad! Edited August 14, 20213 yr by uhsting
August 14, 20213 yr Author CUMU137: SEMI-FINAL ID CHECKS: THE CLASS of 2008 (contests 3-12 inc.) Here it is then - the moment that New Lexico have been waiting for! This month they've gone for some melodic Robyn-esque dance pop from Duplex Heart. All of these are now veterans of the contest who are probably fed-up with waiting by now. Skall have been going for.. 84 years and have clocked up over 100 contests, they've had a pretty decent hit rate over that time considering they don't send the obvious hits and have a more leftfield and alternative flavour to their discography. 137 is no different and for it (wrong semi for me to help them : ( ) we have the wonderful Kent producer Leon Vynehall and a track from his debut, the ambient deep house of “Midnight on a Rainbow Road” - incidentally it might be midnight by the time I finish this... No strangers to the top tier - and needing little introduction - are BJSC legends FARC who've just recently added 2 more to their wins tally taking them to an incredible six. Notable to be predicted as winners before the contest has even started you wouldn't rule them and the europop sound of Sirens (stylised as S7RENS) out. We've also got Kathaldazia (who I appreciate I have kept up WAYYY too late) who are no strangers to the dance floor and indeed 137 is no exception as they've sent a hypnotic and addictive floor filler to impress and it should be guaranteed a good result here. Tartford are back going with some 80s disco with Madleen Kane and the dance continues unabated with Bøtanikkä going for the dance remix of a recent Francis on My Mind single to keep up the tempo. Finally we have Utopia, who despite being in since the 3rd contest at the start of 2008 have yet to win, but could they do it with this wonderful new dance flavoured synthpop loveliness from Desire Marea that is being rinsed by 6Music at the moment? August 14, 20213 yr Leon Vynehall's recent album had some great tunes on it, not familiar with his older work so another one I am v much looking forward to hearing! (and also another artist who feels very overdue a first appearance in BJSC, although iirc he has been entered to Unknown Pleasures before)
August 14, 20213 yr Author 50% hit rate for FARC, when will your faves?? PS - Did I mis anyone? Apols if so. I need a lie-down now. : ( CUMU137: SEMI-FINAL ID CHECKS: THE CLASS of 2007 OG time ! FSR Rontvia have bagged 8 wins but that #1 spot has eluded them for some time now, however they frequently canter into the T10 as demonstrated recently with ishi vu and Self Esteem and could do so again with the retro flavour of their 137 entry Cora's “Amsterdam” from 1984 no-less! Fellow all-timers République d'Áskorza have been drawn in the same semi which somehow feels appropriate and have opted for some dance/electro pop from Sofía Martín & le Shuuk. VCfDfx-7Hpw lezcu2KavS0
August 14, 20213 yr Quickly counted the number of songs you've posted in here and there are 59 so you shouldn't have missed any! This has been a fantastic thread to read through, bravo *.* looking forward to getting stuck into listening to the songs now.
August 14, 20213 yr Amazing effort, thanks for this Doctor B  I think I only know one song aside from my own :o
