Welcome to Cumulonimbia for the 137th edition of the BuzzJack Song Contest.

I'm assured that the critical checks have been done, and we'll be therefore opening the Semi-Finals shortly.

We'll quickly run down the songs entered, with information on the Semi Final that each nation/song is participating in (more details on how that's working that later). Each participating nation will have their own 'Top Trump' card with facts and stats that have been checked and verified by the contests official statistical guru Bré - but there may be errors (on my part), so if you have any complaints please direct them to our DEDICATED complaints hotline.

All I'd say is keep your expectations on my presentation skill and speed very low.

See you in a bit.

We start the evening with...

CUMU137: SEMI-FINAL ID CHECKS: VIP (AQ)

As the winner of 136, St. Burbia is our special guest and will be in both rooms (Semi Final 1 and 2) but their selected DJ request “Spirit_X” by Alewya - pronounced “Ah-le-wee-ya” - total club banger by the way - will be qualifying automatically to the After Party Final no matter what. Well, perhaps not if there’s a collapse of human civilisation or anything, we’ll keep you posted.

CUMU137: SEMI-FINAL ID CHECKS: THE CLASS of 2020

So here are our first entrants (there are no debutants nor class of 2021 entries - sad times), and while it can’t be easy starting off during the worst global pandemic for 100 years, Lookylion have made light work it of it and clocked up some impressive results so far, kicking off their BJSC career with an outstanding Top 3 finish in their very first contest (Babet, 128) and a hit rate north of 20%. Sovarasma (FKA Why So Sirius) have comparably struggled to find their feet in their first 14 contests but have started to hit their stride with 2 consecutive Qs, and will hope to build on that and perhaps even crack the Top 10 for the first time. For 137 Lookylion have sent well established German singer Helene Fischer and the latin influenced pop of “Vamos a Marte” - 'Let's go to Mars' - currently a big hit in Germany, whilst Sovarasma have sent Danish singer/songwriter BATHSHEBA with the first track from her new EP “Fighting For Your Love” looking to battle hard for (sorry about this) your love in Semi 2.

CUMU137: SEMI-FINAL ID CHECKS: THE CLASS of 2018

Here we step back a year as there were no debutants participating from 2019 - they've either been scared off, or saw I was hosting and decided - quite wisely- to steer clear. Wholune now have a flag courtesy of the other 2018 debutant Mosquetania who did a fantastic job of hosting 134. What a comedown this wreck of contest will be ! Anyway, speaking of wrecks we've got “Shipwreck”, some lovely progressive house from Austrian electronic duo Klangkarussell representing the aforementioned Mosquetania; and yes, that is not a typo, ACTUAL :jameela: Tracy Beaker representin' Wholune !

Aw at you removing the 'hipster smoothie' stat from the sample image you sent me :'(

I am kind of curious as to how you found the BPM of each of these songs, did you have to figure them out yourself or is that information just available somewhere online

There was only one country that debuted in 2019 (Sergeistan, who entered twice and have been absent since) - we are overdue harassing some people to join a bit more new blood.

I do vaguely remember that Dani Harmer song being hyped for potential chart success back in my early days on BuzzJack but I don't think I ever actually heard the song (and of course nothing ever came of it chartwise, and she has since completely abandoned her attempt at a music career lol).

'Spirit_X' is a good AQ choice for Burbia *.*

CUMU137: SEMI-FINAL ID CHECKS: THE CLASS of 2017

Two Thousand and Seventeen now, a great song by Four Tet but not appearing in this contest - or is it? No - it's not.

Here we have some excellent arms-in-the-air D'n'B from Jupiterdonia who have chosen Artino, aka Dutch DJ Martijn van Baren to represent them with his trademark catchy melodies, uplifting harmonies and forceful basslines all over “Never Let Me Go”. Jupiterdonia recently smashed the 5K points mark - congrats ! It wouldn't be BJSC without some K-Pop, and we have some here from Lotunia who have entered “All Night” (coincidentally from 2017 album Holiday Night). Finally Rolloland bring us some ambient spacey sounding rock music from Australian stalwarts All India Radio and “Monsters” - but will it be a monster hit?
