You’re allowed to express your opinion, but it’s so boring when you just repeat yourself ALL the time. Also, the majority of your posts just consist of quoting other members and disagreeing with them (do you ever agree with anyone but yourself?).

Anyway, this is a Madonna forum and you need to respect the QUEEN OF POP! B-)

AND? This is my way and I'm not going to change, if it bothers you, as I've already advised, you can block me and not see my posts anymore, it's simple.

And if you haven't noticed, this thread has a question mark in its title, which means a question is being asked, not a statement, so opposing opinions are also welcome. If I can't name another artist who for ME is the queen of pop nowadays, then this topic shouldn't raise a discussion, it should just be named "MADONNA IS THE QUEEN OF POP" and that's all, so no one could say otherwise.

So what if the reason she did all that in music was because her film career never took off with the exception of a few movies, if it is then brilliant it helped her become the Queen and until someone overtakes her achievements in music over a 40 year career she will hold that title.

Rihanna outsold Madonna based on current industry rules. Does that make Rihanna the queen of pop? No. For that title, the only artists that come to mind are Gaga and Madonna, the most complete female artists in history.

Whatever, but I have the right to say what I think, like any other user of this forum, so I won't shut up just because someone wants me to.

Yada yada yada…

Bal, I think it’s time to bin this thread now.

Ok yeah, drawing a line under that now, I think all points have been made either side of this Gaga vs Madonna argument - it's now just going round in circles! Also any further posts that are in similar vain to those making more personal swipes will be removed and warnings can be given. :magic: Let's keep it classy if this thread is to stay open x

I actually think Rihanna would have had more claim to it than GaGa if she had kept going she was on a real momentum hit after hit after hit (and I’m not really a Rihanna fan).

I also think GaGa doing Jazz albums kind of puts her out of the running for “Queen of pop.” Everything Madonna did was pop Gaga, Cher, Beyoncé all play with other genres jazz, rock, RnB.

Not strictly true… Madonna’s played around with different genres throughout her career, she didn’t solely stay in the pop lane.

I’m Breathless has heavy jazz and swing elements.

Erotica was very experimental, incorporating R&B, hip-hop and deep house.

Bedtime Stories is very R&B influenced.

Madonna pushed and trained herself vocally for the musical Evita soundtrack (that had quite a lasting impact on her vocal delivery thereafter).

Ray of Light doesn’t really sit in the pop lane even if Madonna is overall perceived as a pop artist - there’s electronica/techno sounds not typical for an average pop album.

I’m sure there’s other examples but the 90s was my go to decade to dispel the notion that Madonna only ever did pop.

I agree but it’s not purely within that genre, Gaga has done a pure jazz album (or two) Madonna’s experimenting with the genres always stuck directly within pop. Like Gaga using electronics dance on the fame yet that is still firmly a pop album.

I'd maybe concede that point more with Gaga if it was actually original Jazz material, but ultimately (in my view) she's covering the classics due to her love/knowledge of the genre and admiration/respect for Tony... I wouldn't really signal out the two Jazz albums as examples that Gaga is any more diverse than Madonna has been in her career (I'd give I'm Breathless bonus points for being original material that is inspired by and evocative of the styles of the 1930s). Both artists are very experimental.

I think your view that Madonna "stuck directly within pop" might be influenced by the fact that Madonna was *so* huge with her albums, that her experimenting with numerous genres outside of pop, in a way made it pop because she was so commercially successful with it. Few other artists pushed the boundaries of "pop music" like Madonna did; her choices (certainly within the first two thirds of her career) were fresh and had influence over the subsequent popular/commercial sounds of the 80s/90s/00s.

Are we talking about the same Madonna? Not to mention her 90s phase when she teamed up with Babyface to parasitize R&B, the most popular genre at the time.

Also, having hit after hit is the only asset Rihanna had, exactly because she never took risks in her career and always surfed the sound that was hot at the time, always teaming up with big artists & big collabs, but other than that, she doesn't stand out in anything else. She's just that cool girl who sings songs molded to the radio, she doesn't have half of Gaga's talent, range and artistic sense.

Remember Madonna's own words…
