Indeed. It's better to change on something like "Sarah Harding is forever in our hearts".

A lovely idea, we've edited the thread

A lovely new title. I agree with you Jay every time I saw the RIP it hit me like I'd forget and then get a shock again. This is nicer.

An updated version of Sarah's book is out on 3rd February in paperback form with extracts from her final months :( https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1529109760/ref=...R02CVGTR2BVVZEW

I just got this in the post. I can’t see anything new but may have missed it. In a way it’s probably for the best as that really would have been a gut wrenching read. I do find paperback a more manageable format so happy to have it in that.

Just finished the book. God that was a hard read. I found the other girl’s chapters really moving.

That’s great that you may do it

Here’s a press release from Simon Jones PR, including a mention that there are plans for a “big industry-led gala dinner”.

GIRLS ALOUD MEMBERS TO JOIN FORCES TO RAISE MONEY IN SARAH HARDING'S HONOUR

‘Race for Life for Sarah' Announced Today

Cheryl, Kimberley, Nadine and Nicola are working together this year to raise funds to support a poignant and specific wish that Sarah expressed prior to her passing; to raise money for breast cancer research.

They have a number of exciting fundraising activities planned for 2022, culminating in a big industry-led gala dinner launching in the next few months that will aim to support Sarah's wish. More details of those activities will be announced soon.

To start with the girls are joining forces with Cancer Research UK for a special 'Race for Life for Sarah' 5k event, raising money for vital breast cancer research in honour of their much-loved bandmate.

Becoming part of the 'Race for Life for Sarah' team offers a special moment in time for all those who loved and respected Sarah to come together with the rest of the band and celebrate her life while making an amazing contribution to incredible research that will help improve survival for people with cancer.

The 5k will take place on Sunday 24 July at Race for Life in Hyde Park, London. Race for Life for Sarah will be a special addition to the Race for Life event, beginning at 11.30am. Cheryl, Kimberley, Nadine and Nicola are encouraging people to join the team and be part of what will be a very special tribute to Sarah. The money raised by Sarah’s team will help fund vital breast cancer research.

Everyone is welcome at Race for Life for Sarah. The event is non-competitive, and participants can run, walk or jog the 5k route. Cheryl, Nadine and Nicola will be taking part at Hyde Park but for those who can’t be in London like Kimberley, people can still take part by doing a Race for Life at Home for Sarah on 24 July or at a time convenient to them.

Race for Life for Sarah is part of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life event series, in partnership with Tesco. Since Race for Life began in 1994, over 10 million people have taken part, raising over £920m for the charity’s life-saving work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of all types of cancer.

Sign up to Race for Life for Sarah at raceforlife.org or call 0300 123 0770.

Honestly full respect to the girls for actually participating in the race as well. I'd fully understand if they didn't want to get involved themselves (I imagine unfortunately they'll be swarmed with people wanting selfies and being bothered) so for them to actually go there in person and run amongst 'the public' is really nice of them.

(That sounds so patronising but honestly, I get second hand embarrassment when fans bother celebs in public and with an event like this I'd hope that people have common sense and give them a bit of space)

Its a fair point and i dont think its patrionising at all what you said, and hats off to them for doing it, im sure they will have bodyguards with them though or they will be hounded,

100% agree with everything you said. I hope fans realise it's not a meet&greet situation and leave them alone, especially since the day will surely be very hard and emotional for the girls.

It’s not patronising at all Joseph if anybody uses it as a photo or selfie op then shame on them. It’s one thing when you are randomly meeting a celeb or waiting for them outside a radio show or whatever (which I’ll be honest I couldn’t do), but during an event like this when they will surely be incredibly emotional it’s quite crass. Sadly I can see it happening.

I think they event is wonderful and I am sorely tempted to do it myself it’s just so far to get there and would probably need overnight accommodation. I have been considering doing it in Yorkshire for my friend I did one last year to help raise a £4,000 for brain cancer research, and then I was able to donate half my earnings from selling my spice girls collection (still not finished) and have personally donated 5.5k thanks to fab generosity. It’s a matter close to my heart. ❤️

Thank you Joseph, and best of luck to you as well.

I did a 5k run last night in preparation with my running buddy who'll be joining me, it was a doddle!

Cheryl, Nadine, Kimberley and Nicola were interviewed by MailOnline to raise awareness for Race for Life for Sarah:

-----

Cheryl has confessed her feeling of 'helplessness was extremely overwhelming' when her Girls Aloud bandmate Sarah Harding disclosed that her cancer couldn't be cured, before her tragic death in September 2021 aged 39.

Cheryl: 'I asked Sarah so much to give me something I could do to make her happy or comfortable, anything at all. Towards the end, she asked me to create a gala in her honour to fund a crucial study that her doctor was working on so I am committed to doing just that.'

Nadine: 'She talked to us all about this several times. Sarah felt really passionately about wanting to help other people in the same situation as her, or who could be at risk of finding themselves in the same situation she was in. She really wanted to do some fundraising herself, but sadly just wasn’t well enough, so we promised her we would do it for her. She’d have loved the Race For Life – she’d have loved to have been involved. We know for sure she will be there with us in spirit on July 24 in Hyde Park.'

Kimberley: 'She talked to us about this when we were all together and individually. We all want to be as proactive as possible to help raise as much money in her name as we can. We promised her we would.'

Nicola claimed the girls would have raised funds for breast cancer even if Sarah hadn't asked them, as it will help their many fans who are 'in the same fight she was in'.

Ever the busy-bee, Nadine is planning to walk the race but said she'll be 'shooting straight off' for a headlining gig afterwards - which she may need to run to!

Nicola: 'I work out a lot with 5k runs being my go to at the gym. So I would like to run it but I know Cheryl and Nadine want to walk so unless I go ahead and meet them at the finish line I might have to keep at their pace!'

Kimberley will be abroad on a pre-booked holiday for her mum Diane's 70th birthday but has vowed to FaceTime her fellow BRIT Award winners while taking part virtually.

Cheryl, however, confessed she doesn't think she's run much in her life 'full stop' saying: 'My body doesn’t like running.'

Cheryl: 'I will definitely be walking. I am always walking my dog, I'm used to it. I will be cheering for those who choose to run.'

Nicola and Kimberley also haven't taken part in a 'big charity race', but Nadine said she did get involved with one 'many many years ago'.

Cheryl: 'Sarah was such an integral part of us all. It is the most natural thing to do for Sarah and her legacy to come together in support of her and others who may be going through the same devastation we experienced.'

Nadine: 'When we were asked if we’d like to do this we all said yes straight away. I think it’s such a crucial cause and we’d like to do all we can to help.'

Kimberley: 'When Sarah was sick we all felt so helpless. I think she’d be really happy we’re all doing this. Sarah wanted us to raise money for the Christie Hospital where she was treated. 'Beyond that we’ll always do what we can to help raise money and awareness for cancer and breast cancer awareness.'

Cheryl: 'We have a gala dinner planned for later this year in Sarah’s honour and at her request. We will be collaborating with Cancer Research UK to raise funding and awareness.'

Nicola detailed how they've been 'asking big companies to put their hands in their pockets' in order to support the crucial cause.

Nicola: 'I’m happy with what we have planned and feel we’ve successfully set out to do what we wanted in making everyone feel included but make a big monetary difference for the charities.'

-----

Fair play to them for carrying out her wishes and its still such a raw emotional time for them and all others who were close to Sarah.
