I’m still confused as to why Love in the Dark is doing so well? I’ve never even heard it.

So Adele showing us what a true mega pop artist is capable of in the current music landscape, and also how woefully mundane most run of the mill pop stars right nows figures actually are. Whilst there's always exceptions to rules the distance she's ahead of some other releases by big names seriously suggests were in a era dominated by big fish in a small pond and I wonder if labels will be keeping an eye on other artists to try and up their performance targets.

Knowing how big the potential Spotify audience for a new release actually is it seems insane that were satisfied with 300,000 daily streams.

Surely at some point some of the newer artists will start piling these numbers just by being around long enough though.

It was going viral on Tiktok if I remember correctly!

If you haven’t already heard it, here’s a mashup of Adele’s “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” and the Peppa Pig theme tune.

Could have been a multi week #1 if Adele didn't release. Shivers signed CDs still nowhere to be found :)

Called it. ;)

Interesting to note that Cold Heart is actually having some decent success in the US market too and is currently #32 on Billboard. It's Elton's first Top 40 over there since 1999.

Good thing is Love in the Dark is her 2nd highest song Amazon, thanks Alexa :)

I mean you could make the same argument about how her album sales completely walked over everyone else's in the last decade to an absurd extent. I think at this point it's clear that Adele is just a demographic powerhouse who is in a lane of her own in the music industry regardless of what platform we're talking about.

Sure it shows that we can have artists doing numbers like this. However, in the actual universe we live in, she is the only person capable of them.

I’m guessing there’s no metric to see how viral anything is going on TikTok is there? I’m guessing all popular songs have a TikTok presence but there must be some big hits where the TikTok presence/factor is minimal and conversely some songs which are massive on TikTok which don’t translate to chart success? Anyone know?

You can see how many videos a certain "sound" is been used on (which can be a song or some other audio clip) by clicking on it. For example Easy On Me has apparently been used on 22.7k TikTok's.

Indeed, it's all about how the users react to music. The system knows better than us what and how we listen. For instance, Khalid was basically among the top ten acts on Spotify, getting the best playlist placements possible and yet his new music has bombed completely. It's a huge uphill for him to bounce back, I doubt he never will.

Yet, his number of monthly listeners is huge. How can he flop? Because the listeners don't want to hear his new songs.

Which is often a case for leaving it longer before releasing music, letting the previous releases die down especially if very successful. The Weekend is also suffering from this.

One thing is for sure though, should the right artist come along then 3 million seems a plausible barrier to break.

I think to build hype going away for a while is no bad thing once you reach a certain level. If Olivia Rodrigo plays her cards right, I could see her getting into the Adele/Ed Sheeran bracket when she comes back. But I can't really think of many other artists even threatening that space

2.8 million and I seen comments on the forum yesterday that she wouldn't do 2 million with a song like this

the album is going to do some crazy numbers WELCOME BACK ADELE :cheer:

Good ballads are always in fashion even though they are not mainstream all the time since current pop TRENDS don't favour them. Perfect, All of Me, Shallow, Drivers License, Hello, Someone You Loved and whatever that second Lewis Capaldi hit is called, Easy on Me. There are plenty of recent examples.

hmmm ok Spotify explain this!!!

yesterday she was less than 1 million WW...and then on Friday she did 19.7 which would equal to 20.5.

I just checked on her Spotify page and total numbers are now close to 25 million!!!

I'm wondering where does the extra 4 million coming from?!

The 24 million figure is unfiltered streams, which is the highest ever recorded in a single day and beats BTS who previously held the record.

Dircadirca made a good post explaining this the other day

TL;DR presumably a lot of people playing the song more than 10 times in the first day

To be honest I think people are missing the biggest difference between Adele and Ed and everybody else. Absolutely all of there appeal is musical not about being young sexy things - a rarity even when these artists came through. There's no reason a current artist couldn't replicate that but it's obviously gonna be hard for them
