October 21, 20213 yr Author Keep your expectations low but: https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/eurovision/entr...97-597053dd7c76 The BBC has today confirmed plans for the United Kingdom’s participation in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest which will be held in Turin, Italy in May 2022. BBC Studios will once again produce the BBC’s coverage of the biggest and most watched song competition in the world. For the 2022 Contest the BBC and BBC Studios will be collaborating with TaP Music, the global music publishing and management company behind some of the world’s most successful pop artists, such as Dua Lipa, Lana del Rey and Ellie Goulding, in order to choose a song and act that will represent the United Kingdom in the biggest and most watched music contest on the planet. The BBC are going the collaboration route again, this time with TaP Music. Time will tell if they get a well-produced song or some castoff that Dua would have trashed after hearing the first 30 seconds.
October 21, 20213 yr After seeing what happened to Maneskin after Eurovision, I wonder if there will be a host of "copycat" acts being put forward next year? I always wanted Fleur East to represent us as she is such a good performer... but although she has shown an interest before, I think her career lies away from music now. Surely we'll come up with a better song than this year's? (It shouldn't be too hard to manage that).
October 21, 20213 yr Author I mean, some nice quotes including those from Dua, Elton John and Mel C out around the place, not just randomly, they're endorsing TAP's work as having worked with them before: (here: https://www.musicweek.com/management/read/t...and-act/084411). Talk is one thing and ultimately means nothing if they're going to flub the need to attention-grab but it is the right talk at the moment.
October 21, 20213 yr They should give Elton John the Andrew Lloyd Webber treatment, get him to write the entry and have him sat at the piano on stage. I mean, lightning doesn't always strike twice but it's a formula that led to our most recent top 5 and will be the mostly likely way of getting someone of his level involved beyond a few quotes. I feel like Chelcee Grimes may end up being involved, either as the performer or a songwriter. She was part of the BBC semi-final coverage this year, she's with TaP and her songwriting credits include a Roxen & Alexander Rybak collab..
October 24, 20213 yr Based of the news about TaP Music, I can see Chelcee Grimes to be somehow involved (either as a performer or songwriter) as it's mentioned above or Claudia Valentina as well.
October 24, 20213 yr Mindful how badly this post will age, but the energy feels different. It’s difficult to envisage TaP orchestrating a dud. If you need an injection of optimism, listen to the latest Euro Trip podcast.
October 25, 20213 yr Based of the news about TaP Music, I can see Chelcee Grimes to be somehow involved (either as a performer or songwriter) as it's mentioned above or Claudia Valentina as well. With our luck it'll be Cherry Valentine with a Dua Lipa rejected demo from 2015. But hey, at least that'd be some considerable progress already.
November 30, 20213 yr Electropop duo HYYTS have revealed they were 'close' to being chosen as the UK's entry next year... a real shame as their stuff is sounding really good! RyzVTcb2N50
January 28, 20223 yr According to an interview with Music Week established acts with existing European fanbases are in the shortlist for this years entry and Radio 1 and Scott Mills are involved in the process. The song will be released on a major record label so going by this it’s all sounding quite promising but I won’t hold my breath. https://www.musicweek.com/media/read/tap-mu...t-search/085046
January 28, 20223 yr But at least different people are behind the entry who may have a better understanding of what sells in Europe
January 28, 20223 yr Just seen that HYYTS were considered. They would have been a good choice. Singing Your Name and their new single, "Twice in a Lifetime" have made me a fan!!
February 21, 20223 yr It wouldn't be Eurovision season without the rumour mill churning up an interesting one. The rumour currently doing the most circulation is that Jack Savoretti is the UK entrant. A brief summary of the evidence goes; - A gap in his tour dates in May in and around the rehearsals - A new "deluxe edition" of his most recent album coming out the Friday after the final featuring new tracks - He fits in with the "Radio 2 friendly" vibe that the BBC are known for defaulting to - He's recently joined Tap Music (although I can't seem to find the evidence for this?) - With it being in Italy I guess it would make sense that he would be more up for doing it given his Italian roots? So, this year's "Mabel announcing a new single the day the announcement is happening" or this year's "Bonnie Tyler's got this 3 minute radio edit of one of her album tracks" - who knows?
February 21, 20223 yr Jack Savoretti would probably send a great heartfelt ballad as he is the best at this style (When We Were Lovers, I'm Yours). Potentially this could stick out as the UK seems to fare slightly better with ballads (Lucie Jones, Molly...). Also in a field of a lot of upbeat bops this year, the UK could bring something fresh. Hopefully, if he is selected, he could deliver.
February 21, 20223 yr he's too Radio 2 for my liking but I think you're right that he'd probably be our best bet at a Eurovision "hit" (ie not bottom 10) since Lucie Jones so I won't complain if he gets sent. or anyone else who can actually sing live.
