Adele is the Queen of defying expectations, remember everyone was saying it'd be impossible for her to get anywhere near 200k for 'Easy On Me. Quote me if she doesn't do at least 300k.

I think a lot of people thought she would do much more than 200k with her new single in the first week. I’d be very surprised if she shifts 300k of her album though. The market has shrunk considerably since 25 and I’ve heard there has been lots of issues with her vinyl production. Abba had the record for largest pre-orders too. Will be interesting to see what happens anyway!

And those people would be being silly xx

It took her smashing the record for streaming in a single week by a pretty huge margin to make it past 200k. The pure sales market for singles is basically entirely dead apart from charity singles and it is extraordinarily difficult to come anywhere close to 200k with streaming the way the chart currently works.

(also re: issues with vinyl production, it's more that Adele's album is causing issues for everyone else because they're making so many for her )

Where have you heard that? Sony not long ago revealed they have so far pressed more than 500,000 vinyls of her album. She will likely have 1-2 million vinyls available this year (as I assume they will continue to press them right up to and beyond album release week).

Also, we have no clue of Adele's pre-orders due to the label not revealing figures. For all we know she's absolutely smashed ABBA's pre-order record (I think highly likely).

I mean she completely obliterated everyone's streaming expectations. I feel she'll do massive numbers with the album.

They didn't, if you read through the prediction thread.

Let's revisit this in 3 weeks and see though.

I wish this thread would stay on topic, but because no one else seems to care, I will go off topic too...Normally if pre order sales are not released, it means (in this case Sony) those figures are not as good as hoped or are so over the top that it is going to cause shockwaves and best to release the stunning figures on Day 1 which would only generate even bigger sales in it's first week. I also think the expectations of 30 are no where near as high as they were for 25 after the incredible success of 21. I think it will open with a bang on pre order sales, settle for a day or two and then close with a bang as the songs make there way through streaming services (providing the songs are up to scratch of course)....I am going to go out on a limb, but don't be shocked if the Album borders on Diamond status before the week is out....

Now back to ABBA, just spoke to a friend who is high up in Universal Australia and he said as of midnight last night (Australian time) Voyage had surpassed Ed Sheehans Album for first week sales in the UK. He said it was based on pre order and around 14 hours of Sales in the UK. He also said what was expected in world wide sales in it's first week has already been exceeded. Make what you want from that

He also said something interesting and it goes along the lines of the "Core" ABBA fans straddle both sides of the fence, they have embraced streaming along with the younger generation, but the old school in them wants that phsyical copy as well, hence the extraordinary sales they are seeing....so there you go, we will find out in a few days

It's not the norm for pre-order figures to be made public is it? In fact I can't think of a single other album besides ABBA where the number has been specifically publicised, at least not recently.

ABBA already overtaking Ed's first week sales would not be surprising considering we knew they were on 110k pre-orders weeks ago, so it only needed another 30k in pre-orders since then + first day non pre-order sales. Their pure sales are probably going to drop off extremely quickly during the week though. And I'm not convinced that a new ABBA album is going to be a big draw for casual purchases, to the extent that casual album purchases are still a thing that exist for any album. A new Adele album I think will be (if it isn't then basically nothing ever will be again), and I would have said that about Ed too but I'm not so sure given his fairly lacklustre first week total.

The only preorders I recall lately is Lana-Chemtrails
I never expected 5 tracks in the top 100 for Abba on Spotify so think they are doing fine there!

Totally this! 9 tracks in the Top 200 on Spotify - not bad for a band in their 70s with their first album in 40 years :cheer:

Do we have any idea on sales for yesterday?

It's still miniscule amount of what they sell in physicals. Maybe 5-8k in total by Friday.

Why are so many people obsessed with what Adele will sell on an ABBA predictions thread?

If you look for the negatives you will always find them ;)

A band like Abba are not a streaming force and the fact they can appear with 9 out of 10 songs on the Spotify Top 200 is a remarkable achievement for, like I said earlier a band in their 70s with their first album in 40 years.

Which is exactly WHY they have even this respectable numbers.

92k

Source? Seems very low considering the pre-orders info (wasn't it 80k in a day in September?)

Maybe that 92k is pre-orders?

Source is the same person who provided the accurate numbers for Sheeran and the Adele-Sheeran singles "battle" last week, therefore he is very trustworthy (I'm sure we'll have official source tomorrow).

It's possible that not all the pre-orders have been counted on the first day (92k is pure sales).

The 92k is correct. I feel as though the reported pre orders may have been international
