Interesting to see the difference to last year, thanks Dan. Xmas chart might not be so horrid if the trend for less Christmas listening compared to 2020 keeps up. Shame Leona seems to be one of those impacted most by this currently though :nocheer:

This did enter at #16 on the corresponding week last year! (was only starred out the previous week due to being behind at least 3 'positions' tracks, but it overtook 'pov' the week after)

It's time we made a petition to finally get Geraldine her Xmas #1

A campaign we could all get behind.

Christmas Carnage is here... midweek update has a whopping 39 songs top 100 including five Alexa songs and it's not even December. OCC really need to sort this mess out by next year, god forbid what will happen if Boris ""cancels"" Christmas cos of the latest Covid variant, we may end up having 39 Christmas songs in the Top 40.

*exclusive new version of the song on Alexa accounting for most of its sales

**song was on SCR but will now be on ACR

Yeah I know people love to harp on that it's only one month a year, it's really 5 weeks now and it's the same old songs every single year. It was okay pre streaming era where there was maybe 10 songs at its absolute peak but this is ridiculous tbh - I'd be here for a rule for songs older than 5 years to be excluded, at least then it'd be newer fresher Christmas songs at least.

and I used to be very pro-Christmas classics being in the chart but you're right it's definitely gone too far now, it never used to be this dominant for this many weeks. Mariah and Wham have their #1 peaks now so we don't even have that to cheer for anymore.

Something should be done about it. It was fine during the download era, there was a bit of a phenomenon in the first few years around 2005-2007 due to a large amount of people buying digital copies of them for the first time but after that they reappeared with minimal impact each year, usually only Mariah and The Pogues would make the Top 20 half way through December.

5 weeks of complete dominance is a different story.

Yeah I agree also. The fact that Mariah is already at #2 in the midweeks is ridiculous. I want to blame streaming services and playlists but at the end of the day people are still choosing to play these playlists so it kind of seems fair.

I’m hoping it’s still some sort of pandemic effect that is causing people to stream the songs so early. And I reckon the snow has had a big influence also.

I happy not seen Lewis Capaldi in chart. We got old song all year stuck at bottom 100 to 71 and got do something with mr brightside. Does the killers mr brightside hold record appearing Most chart of years must been 6 years now

Ah, seems like it's a bit more all over the place now with regard to if songs are doing better or worse than at the same stage last year compared to the last few weeks where I believe more or less everything was doing uniformly worse.

Paul McCartney seemingly having quite a random large rise up the Christmas songs ranking this week?

Spotify's global playlists really boosting the American songs here this time around, I think Macca being a global superstar has also been aided.
