I'd be down for a recurrent chart been established. OCC already have a criteria for what they class as an old hit with the rule that puts tracks older than 3 years on permanent ACR, if they were relegated to the recurrent chart instead that would solve the Christmas issue. There would of course have to be an exception along the lines of any track older than 3 years that has never previously charted in the Top 40 can chart on the Official Singles Chart.

There is no ‘Christmas issue’ for me it’s lovely to listen to the top 40 countdown on a cold dark December Friday night and year Mariah and co rising each year. That’s the thing to for me it shows the current favourite Xmas songs each year and it will change eventually and it’ll be nice to see this as the generations move forward.

Fantastic to see ‘17 Going Under’ up to near 300k daily streams and just sitting behind the Ed’s and Adele’s of this period, I’m so proud it’ll get plays high up the chart where it deserves! I just hope I don’t grow to dislike it’s overplay (it’s still top 30 in my personal chart after being number one in May/June time)!

Also great to see the current single climbing again!

That would be fine if it was December, last year Christmas songs were flying in in November.

You seem to be glossing over the fact that 17 Going Under also sits behind ArDee.....

I just forgot about Arrdee lol no need for the roll eyes!

Everyone has clearly said last year was a one off given the terrible year we had, this year it’s back to the norm, the Mariah/Wham won’t enter until next Friday at the earliest and the rest on the weeks following with no real onslaught until Xmas week and the final chart of the year.

Ive also noticed January has become a big time now to release a brand new single for a new campaign for a lot of artists as they wait until post Xmas!

Yes, any new songs out in December are going to have to compete with Christmas music and retrospectives of the year for people's listening attention, whether that's through streaming or radio, and banishing the Christmas songs from the official chart wouldn't change that.

It's not as though there are 10 Mr Brightsides either - there's literally one (or two if we now count SYL as it's over 3 years old, but that's only just hanging on) and it's a long way below the Top 40, so it's hardly preventing new songs becoming hits every week.

^on the other hand its still big climbing on Apple, up to €53 (+31) now :/

but better news Sam Fender is now top 10 on Apple!

Looks like Sam Fender could be in with a top 5 shout tomorrow. Excellent.

Noticed a lot of love for the live version of Meet Me At Our Spot, if they can get that on streaming might give that a bigger boost as well.

That's an expensive single.

it is on streaming, has been for a few weeks. just hasn't had enough momentum to enter the charts.

Ah fair enough. One of those where the fans care but general public aren't too bothered then.

21. Ewan Mcvicar - Tell Me Something Good

It's good to see this climbing before the weekend. I doubt it's gonna manage to go top 10 though :(

68. Sam Fender - Spit Of You

Can see this going top 40 next week now :D

It is kind of weird that the live version of 'Meet Me At Our Spot' has completely failed to make even a small dent on streaming (not made the top 200 on either Spotify or Apple as far as I'm aware) considering that was the version that the hype for the song came from, all the YouTube comments on the original are about how the live version is better  It has done ok on iTunes though for what little that's worth (currently about 30 places higher than the album version).
Sam is now above 300k on Spotify for the first time!

Also, #105 (+31) Tiesto & Ava Max - The Motto

The Motto deserves to become a smash hit! Hope this is still hanging around after Christmas and can get a reset and improved peak in January.

Sam Fender only 3k behind Arrdee in streams on Spotify and Top 10 on Apple Music.

Love to see this improving day on day.

Love that Spit of You and Hypersonic Missiles are getting daily boosts too

Sam top 10 on Apple Music now! Survive the Adele domination next week to go top 10 plz
