Ultimately reaching the show's semifinal round, Hill emerged a fan favorite and became the first Voice UK contestant to score a number one single when "Gecko (Overdrive)," her collaboration with Dutch EDM star Oliver Heldens, topped the U.K. singles chart in June 2014. Born on February 14, 1994 in Bewdley, Worcestershire, England, Hill was no stranger to music when she first auditioned for the then new The Voice UK in 2012. As a teenager, she had sung with the acoustic rock & soul group Shaking Trees, which created some local buzz and received several plays on BBC Radio. On The Voice UK she made it to the semifinal with her powerful renditions of R&B songs by the likes of John Legend and others, before being eliminated. By her own admission, she was a novice in the music industry game and it took her 18 months to finally get a record deal. In the meantime, however, her sultry, soulful, older-than-her-years voice was highly sought-after by dance artists looking for feature vocalists. Her first recorded appearance, on British drum'n'bass artist Wilkinson's single "Afterglow," went to number eight on the U.K. singles chart. She then appeared on Rudimental's single "Powerless," singing with them at several U.K. festivals in 2013, including Glastonbury. Following her success with Heldens, Hill worked extensively with London-based dance producer MNEK and issued her debut solo single, "Caution to the Wind." It showcased a shift toward a more electronica-influenced sound, with twinkling melodies and production reminiscent of Four Tet. The Eko EP appeared in 2017, and included the single "Unpredictable." The single "Sunrise in the East" followed a year later. In 2019, Hill issued a pair of upbeat singles, "I Could Get Used to This," which featured Weiss, and "Wish You Well," which featured Sigala. - Apple Music Topic German songwriter, producer, and DJ Topic refers to his sound as "melancholic dance music." His songs typically combine striding house beats and light guitar melodies with yearning lyrics about heartache as well as dancefloor escapism. He made his full-length debut with 2015's Miles, and later scored a worldwide hit with 2019's "Breaking Me," featuring A7S. Tobias Topic was born in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, in 1992. He began producing music using a digital audio workstation when he was 16. Using social media to launch his career, he released his first single, "Light It Up" (with vocalist Jona Selle), in 2014. His debut album, Miles, appeared in 2015, containing several additional singles, including "Home" (featuring Nico Santos), which was certified platinum in Germany and Australia. He continued releasing additional charting singles such as 2016's "Find You" (with Jake Reese), 2017's "Break My Habits," and 2018's "Perfect" (with former Fifth Harmony singer Ally Brooke), which became his first song to reach the Billboard Dance/Electronic chart. Topic's first major worldwide hit, "Breaking Me," featuring Swedish singer A7S (Alexander Tidebrink), was released during the final weeks of 2019, and hit the Top Ten in two dozen countries by the end of 2020. Topic reunited with Santos on the 2020 single "Like I Love You," and collaborated with A7S and rapper Lil Baby on "Why Do You Lie to Me." - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History Becky Hill 2013 08 Afterglow (Wilkinson feat. November 5, 20214 yr 09 | 08 | 12th week Joel Corry and Jax Jones featuring Charli XCX and Saweetie OUT OUT Non-album single Released: 13th August 2021 Label: Perfect Havoc Chart Statistics NE (26/08/2021) | 18-10-6-7-7-8-9-8-9-9-8-9 Sales: 200k+ Certification: Silver Status: Standard Chart Ratio 04 Sales 08 Audio Streaming 16 Video Streaming Video Yk7u5yHth_c Biography Joel Corry “Back Again” might seem like a strange title for a debut single, but not for Joel Corry: When the British DJ/producer dropped his first record in 2015, he was already well known to UK audiences from his appearances on the MTV reality show Geordie Shore. While that program captured its cast members’ romantic misadventures with tongue firmly in cheek, Corry has treated his musical career with far more seriousness, faithfully updating the sounds of classic house with a sleek contemporary touch. Born in London in 1989, Corry was just a boy when the slinky sounds of UK garage catapulted underground dance music into British pop around the turn of the millennium, but he brings the same crossover spirit to his own productions. While 2015’s “Back Again” and “Light It Up” flirted with big-room EDM, Corry looked to the past for his breakout hit, a 2019 cover of Monsta Boy’s 2000 UK garage classic “Sorry” that paired soulful vocals with crisp, jittery drum programming. He’s pursued a similar approach on subsequent singles like “Lonely” and “Head & Heart”, updating the piano chords and organ stabs of ’90s dance pop with 21st-century production values. While Corry’s timeless hooks are perfect for radio, he’s careful to always have something special for the dance floor. As he told Apple Music: “With all my records I like to do my own VIP mix”—that is, a club-ready version that’s a little tougher and heavier. With reality TV in the rearview, these days Corry’s simply keeping it real. - Apple Music Jax Jones When Duke Dumont topped the UK charts with his single “I Got U” in 2014, many listeners may have assumed that featured artist Jax Jones was the singer. In fact, Jones (born Timucin Aluo in 1987) was a co-writer and producer on the song, and its No. 1 position marked his auspicious debut. Raised in London by a Turkish father, a Malaysian mother and a Nigerian stepfather, the Apple Music Up Next alum grew up on a mix of American hip-hop, UK dance and African music, which might help to explain the mix of styles that swirls through his own tracks: His youthful fondness for Prince shows through in funk-infused cuts like 2015’s “Ocean Drive”, while Afro-Caribbean accents bubble up in 2018’s “Ring Ring”, a lilting tropical-house collaboration with Mabel and Rich the Kid. Though his beats generally follow the punchy cadence of deep-diving future house, he brings a hip-hop producer’s collage sensibility to the mixing desk: Many of his productions slyly interpolate other songs. “You Don’t Know Me”, from 2016, is built around the slinky hook of M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade’s 2005 anthem “Body Language”, while “I Got U” contains a choice bit of Whitney Houston’s “My Love Is Your Love”. Whether on his own productions or his remixes for Ellie Goulding, Charli XCX and Missy Elliott, Jones’ habitual blend of pop polish and house groove is unmistakable. “I just thought I'd try it,” he told Apple Music about his relationship to dance music. “House is a collage of everything the creator is. If you love hip-hop, you can chuck that in there. If you love rock, you can chuck that in there too. It took a long time, but now it makes a lot of sense. It’s sample-based and also musical, so it's a very natural fit. Life is beautiful like that. They say you have to, like, get rid of yourself to go to the next level. And I think that’s what happened.” - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History Joel Corry 2019 06 Sorry -NAS- MILLIONAIRE 2020 04 Lonely -NAS- MILLIONAIRE 2020 01 Head & Heart (feat. November 5, 20214 yr 08 | 06 | 8th week Central Cee Obsessed With You 2nd single from forthcoming studio album Released: 10th September 2021 Label: Central Cee Chart Statistics NE (23/09/2021) | 5-4-5-4-6-7-6-8 Sales: 200k+ Certification: Silver Status: Standard Chart Ratio 38 Sales 05 Audio Streaming 06 Video Streaming Video oP7KHC129RQ Biography Shepherd's Bush-based Central Cee made his first steps in music toward the end of the 2010s, debuting with 2017's Auto-Tune-laced "Over You." His early career was characterized by the D-Block Europe-esque melodic trap of the era, with Cee opting for bouncy instrumentals and Auto-Tune-driven melodies on tracks like "TRANSITION" and "JUGG." However, in 2020 the rapper found himself drawn to a different style entirely -- U.K. drill. Kicking off the year with the guitar-laden "Day in the Life," Cee's skating flows proved a natural match for the genre's faster-paced sonics, which he continued to develop with the gritty "Molly" and a bold showing on Kenny Allstar's Mad About Bars. All prior successes were eclipsed in October of that year, though, when Cee released his breakout hit, "Loading." Landing at number 19 on the U.K. charts, the track secured the rapper his first Top 40 hit with its inventive drill production, active flows, and a magnetic performance on the mic. This success followed him into early 2021: January's "Pinging (6 Figures)" offered a more traditional take on drill, while February's "Commitment Issues" secured Cee a number nine spot on the U.K. charts. His debut mixtape, Wild West, arrived that March. Debuting at number two in the U.K., the tape expanded Cee's vivid drill sound with forward-thinking production and a wider range of narratives. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2020 19 Loading -2- 2021 44 Pinging (6 Figures) -3- 2021 09 Commitment Issues -4- 2021 44 Day In The Life -1- 2021 16 6 For 6 -5- 2021 62 The Great Escape (Blanco & Central Cee) 2021 17 Meant To Be (Stay Flee Get Lizzy, Fredo & Central Cee) 2021 34 Little Bit Of This -1- 2021 04 Obsessed With You -2- 0 x #1 | 1 x Top 5 | 2 x Top 10 | 5 x Top 20 | 6 x Top 40 | 9 x Top 100 Social Media Central Cee http://i.imgur.com/1SERq1f.png
November 5, 20214 yr 07 | 05 | 51st week Glass Animals Heat Waves 4th single from Dreamland Released: 29th June 2020 Label: Polydor Records Chart Statistics NE (29/10/2020) | 68-63-68-68-67-73-91-x RE (14/01/2021) | 48-45-43-38-34-24-26-23-22-24-23-25-24-21-24-20-19-19-22-30-57-57-58-63-61-68-65-73-59-57-54-57-53-60-18-10-8-7-8-5-5-6-5-7 Sales: 800k+ Certification: Platinum Status: Standard Chart Ratio 18 Sales 06 Audio Streaming 14 Video Streaming Video mRD0-GxqHVo Biography According to legend, Glass Animals chose their name by picking two words out of the dictionary at random—but you couldn’t come up with a better combination for a group that toes the line between the pristine and primal. On their 2014 debut, Zaba, the Oxford quartet aligned themselves with a storied lineage of abstract alt-rock—the moody atmospheres of Radiohead, the tropical textures of Animal Collective—but in Dave Bayley, Glass Animals possess an uncommonly smooth singer who could mould those left-field influences into sultry, R&B-flavoured pop songs. While the album made them indie darlings, it also earned the group admirers beyond the typical NME reader—the 2015 single “Lose Control” saw them team up with Brooklyn MC Joey Bada$$ for a trippy rap track. That sense of anything-goes openness fully flourished on 2016’s How to Be a Human Being, whose procession of freaky, funky anthems and synth-smeared slow jams earned Glass Animals their first Mercury Prize nomination. But after drummer Joe Seaward was nearly killed in a 2018 cycling accident, Glass Animals dialled down the eccentricity for 2020’s Dreamland, a more intimate record that further harmonized the art-rock/club-pop dialectic at the heart of their music. Speaking about the single “Your Love (Déjà Vu)” to Apple Music, Hayley said, “The idea was to take my favourite '90s producers like Timbaland and The Neptunes and the way they used samples, yet record a lot of those sounds in the way The Beatles or Beach Boys might’ve done it... and then taking Beatles and Beach Boys sounds and resampling them as [those producers] might’ve done.” That Dreamland cracked the Top 10 in both the UK and US is a testament to Glass Animals’ gift for melding different styles and eras into the sound of now. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2020 05 Heat Waves -1- 0 x #1 | 1 x Top 5 | 1 x Top 10 | 1 x Top 20 | 1 x Top 40 | 1 x Top 100 Social Media Glass Animals http://i.imgur.com/1SERq1f.png
