I mean if we get a Forever25 I absolutely hope they don't start teasing it 3 years in advance. Tbh I'd rather they did something with Woman now or next year and then see where we are Jan 2025 for Forever25.

Spiceworld 25, should they have even bothered.

For a group with a limited back catalogue they messed this release up terribly.

 Happy to share (even if these sales are depressing :coffee: )

It'll be very interesting to eventually find out how the Spiceworld 25 CDs will compare to the Spice sales. It's really the only format where we're comparing like for like, just the one CD, although Spiceworld 25 will have a longer time being pre-orderable.

I still don't think it'll sell as much as Spice 25's did, but we shall see... in 5 weeks time!

Ouch those sales are not good, sadly...

The cassette is only available through their website right? Anyway Im more shocked by the streaming numbers, how low :nocheer:

Will we even be able to find out the CD sales if it doesnt get to Top 200?

Yeah the cassette was website exclusive! I'm going to guess most of those cassette sales came from people who went for the bundle option. Can't really imagine many people were enticed into buying a £19.99 cassette separately!

The streaming figure for Spiceworld seems to show that there was an increase compared to what it would usually do, presumably that is thanks to the additional tracks, but yeah it's still quite low.

If Spiceworld doesn't re-enter the Top 200 in that week we likely won't find out information unless that guy on Spice Circle is kind enough to share lol. If it is Top 200 then there's a slight chance I'll be able to find out for myself!

It'll be Christmas week and I'm sure #200 is going to need over 1,000. If their streaming fell to about 150 sales, then we'd really need for the CD to sell 900 to comfortably be within the Top 200. Hopefully there'd at least be a handful of vinyl sales that week.

If their team was at all sensible they'd make sure to give it some decent social media exposure in that week. If they completely brush it under the carpet and not even draw attention to the CD being out, that'll be so odd.

Omg, the cassette sales! Ouch lol.

This what i predicted on the other topic:

I Predict #15 with 4,540 copies in the first week [Vinyl: 2,281 | CD: 1,464 | Cassette: 243 | Streaming: 364 | Downloads: 188]

So i wasn't too far for the cassettes, streaming and downloads.

Cassettes became popular again as they were seen by fans and labels as an easy way to get extra sales. They were generally cheap and a nice easy thing to then entice fans.

Universal have basically decided they are an easy way to make money instead when it comes to the Spice Girls. So for the charts it was a completely wasted format this time round.

Downloads were actually not too bad and streaming around what I'd expect. Vinyls could have been better but then you had 1 version on Amazon and only 2 at HMV both priced at £30.

Sadly Universal probably aren't too unhappy with that when you look at how expensive each format was so how much money it brought in rather than sales.

1,603 vinyls sold at £30 each = £48,090. For Americans that equals $57,462.

There were 4 women hired to manage SW 25. No doubt that means Universal made zero profit on SW 25 after paying the team and printing costs.

So........ I understand the rationale but this is a bit reductive.

Those are only UK numbers, we don't know how much they did worldwide. Plus, the shipping costs from their store which they will retain (and are incredibly high specially for international shipping!), plus the merchandise that goes with it (it is through Bravado which are part of Universal), etc.

Furthermore, the 4 women you talk about are the women who did the Spice25 campaign right? Do we know if they are in Spiceworld25 as well?

And they wont be hired just for the Spiceworld25 campaign, Universal will hire them across otehr projects too, and they are probably on a contract, so it is not as simple as the calculations above. At best, if they don't have a full time contract with Universal - which I would asume they do - then their pay would come from a variety of projects, not just the Spice Girls one.

But yes, they wont be doing much profit, but we don't really know how that plays out internally, nor do we know how much money they might be supposedly loosing with this. From what we know, they barely spent any money in this, so it might all be fine in the end lol

Plus, they will continue to make money from merch and once the items go on discount, they will continue to make money in the long run.

If you have to include merch to justify making a profit......

The girls can sell merch without an anniversary release.

My main point is the UK is the biggest market for the girls. If that's all they did in the UK, I doubt sales from other countries are that high. Universal ain't in the business to break even or make a very small profit.

George Michael's reissue of Older a few weeks earlier sold 12,652 vinyls. That really shows how low SW 25's vinyl numbers truly are.

When I spoke to someone about the webstore they said the UK sales are less than 25% of their sales.

So you can times that by 3, do the same for the cassette £19.99 each and download sales too £12.99 each

Then there will be the CD sales to come. Plus any streaming money.

Also why would you disqualify merch, it is where most artist make their money now at 50 quid a jumper or 60 quid a hoodie. I'm sure SW25 was still hugely profitable.

Does Universal get any of their merch sales? As far as I know the girls do not have a recording contract with them. Universal only holds the distribution rights to their catalogue. Universal wouldn't be entitled to a percentage of their merchandise sales unless the girls agreed to give them some.

Of course they do. Universal run the webstore and website unless you think they are doing that for no profit from merch.
