You're not being critical enough. You're grasping for nice things to say about SW 25. Praising the girls and their team for uploading a HQ scan of the SW album cover to Spotify is laughable.

George Michael's reissue of Older went to #2 in the UK. That's without multiple vinyl covers and a CD release.

I'm not sure why you made these 2 points together? Slating SW25 for content or lack of then bigging up Older's chart success with a lot less content.

The success of these reissues by artists isn't in any way related to the content but how big a fanbase the artist has. Sugababes threw everything at the One Touch reissue and it didn't make the top 10 when Older made #2.

As I have said SW25 isn't perfect but if you went on content then getting Step to me alone would put it above the recent offerings of Stripped and Older reissues.

Yes I am happy to have a HQ Spiceworld cover on streaming as well as Step to me on streaming, the lyric video for it, SUYL alternate video, Move Over live from Istanbul in HQ on Youtube as well as the various live tracks, the Viva Forever remix and party mix. As I've said it could defo be better but as I've also given examples it could be much worse too.

Take what you want from SW25 (I think 99% of fans have wanted Step to me digitally for a long time) and leave the rest. Even if you don't want the physicals you have stuff online to stream for free should you so wish.

If I had told people in 2018 that we would have Feed your love, demos, Step to me, lyric videos, alternate videos, unreleased mixes, phyical releases most would laugh and say pigs might fly as their music was left gathering dust for years. Even during the Olympics, big anniversaries like the 20th anniversary there was absolutely nothing done with their output. Heck it took years to get the GH on streaming services after Spotify ect became big.

Things are going in the right direction, the videos got the 4k treatment, the albums have gotten vinyl releases and so on. Hopefully the girls are out there next year on stage and it propels the label to keep giving us content hopefully there will be stuff you enjoy from it.

Because it is 2022 and barely a song released now is over 3 minutes. Who is going to sit and listen to a 90 second intro to a song when the skip button is right there.

It was sensible to shorten the audio version both for streaming and to fit more on the CD/vinyl.

The HQ video looks great. I'll take anything uploaded online as I have moved away from listening to or watching anything unless it is via streaming.

But this is a live track from the 90s, that’s niche already. It’s not going to be some well streamed success, so chopping off the intro is a futile exercise. Those likely to want to listen to it would cope with it being 4 minutes. Or do people not have the attention span for the video being that length?

People don't have much of attention span in general! I'd probably say 90% of my friends can't let a song on their iPod play out in full that they chose without hitting that skip button halfway through only to advance to yet another song that's "the best".

Step To Me should have been on the greatest hits album in 2007. Praising the girls and their team for making the song widely available 15 years later is a joke.

I brought up George Michael's reissue of Older because it went to #2 without multiple vinyl covers and a CD release. Fans bought it because it included everything from that era in beautiful packaging. Spice 25 would have charted much lower without its multiple vinyl covers. Spice 25 could have been much, much bigger.

Kylie's Possible Princess offers no new content whatsoever, yet her fans are over the moon and rushed to buy 4 vinyl variants of the album and gave her a Top 5 (beating its previous #10 peak). That's impressive, considering it was a commercial & critical disappointment when first released in 1997.

It will be a shame if Spiceworld, which has sold more than 1.5 million copies and is a fan favourite, performs worse than an album that barely went Silver upon release.

The main draw for Impossible Princess is the fact that it had never been pressed on vinyl before, and that in itself made it new content! That’s why a lot of her fans are so happy and responded incredibly well to it. (I’m sure some fans would have wanted new audio content too, particularly those who aren’t into vinyl, but the clear objective of this reissue was “on vinyl for the first time ever”).

The closest comparable scenario is Spice Girls - Forever, given that it was never on vinyl before 2020. That only got 1 vinyl format vs. Kylie putting out four. Although the Forever vinyl, if we’re being completely honest, kind of flopped.

Forever: 696 physicals sold + 87 downloads & 37 streaming = 820 sales, therefore missed the Top 200. The #200 of that week sold 940 copies.

Whereas Kylie Impossible Princess sold 6,340 vinyl out of 6,384 sales. An average of 1,585 per vinyl edition, although I’m sure it’s probably a minority of the most hardcore members of the fanbase that bought all 4. If she’d done just 1 vinyl I’m sure it would have sold way more than 1,585 by itself.

[Edit: Now that I think about it, Greatest Hits is comparable as well, and that did a lot better than Forever]

Spiceworld 25 (and Spice 25), I regard them as totally different projects to Impossible Princess. Unlike IP, the Spice Girls albums were phenomenally successful at the time of release. They had already been released on vinyl in 1996 and 1997 respectively (albeit both ended up being rare until their eventual reissues). The initial vinyl reissues of Spice and Spiceworld didn’t help either album back into the Top 200 though.

Their “25” campaigns, which have multiple vinyl + CD and cassettes - I think these projects really rely on new content whereas Impossible Princess didn’t need to. Spice 25 can be considered a successful release for sure, even though many of us fans had our issues with various aspects of it. Spiceworld 25 has less to get excited about imo. I believe it’s inevitable that it’ll do worse than Impossible Princess, despite being a ridiculously bigger success back in the 90s.

By the way, HMV has revealed the new date for Spiceworld 25 2CD - 16th December. That’s a delay of 6 weeks, and that is the Christmas chart week.

#200 in that week can exceed 1,000 copies so whether Spiceworld can re-enter the chart that week based on mainly just CD sales really remains to be seen, but that’s the toughest week they could possibly choose for it.

But also probably the best in terms of snagging some casual sales as the foot fall of shoppers in HMV will be at its peak looking for xmas presents.

With it being split into 2 weeks release wise I don't think a high peak is that important. I'm sure the label would happily take the CD release week it being #57 and selling 1.5k than it being #32 four weeks earlier and selling 1.1k.

Spice25 did well over 1k CDs release week did it not? I think the CD will do as well for SW25 if not maybe better as I feel like it will be the main selling point this time.

Almost 1,500 for Spice's CD, hopefully Spiceworld can at least do about the same, but I'm finding it so hard to guage what level of public interest there is in this album re-release.

If it somehow manages 2 weeks in the Top 200 then it'll push its overall Top 200 weeks up to 90 (it's currently on 88) so that would be a nice bonus if they can achieve it.

This is cute

Viva Forever really is a stunning song, their very best

Do we really think it will do 2 weeks? I just don't see it... The reception has been so bad, I would be suprised.. It might go Top75 on first week but I don't see it coming back with just the CD at such a competitive week, specially when it is a release seen by the fans as quite underwhelming -_-

Sorry to be a downer, but I just lost a lot of faith in this campaign. It is nice that Radio 2 seem to be backing it although it is all a bit muted isn't it? :(

It really depends on how much the CD sells! The threshold for Top 200 in Christmas week is 1000+ sales, so if it does around that then it'll at least scrape the chart. Plus any (probably small) numbers of vinyl/cassette it sells in that week and a little bit of streaming. But knowing our luck it'll be in the midweeks and then slip out at the final moment lol.
The CD will have an extra 6 weeks of pre-orders though and promo hopefully especially if something is announced from the girls before it is released.

I think this caused VF to go #49 on iTunes atm

That looks so awful

I'm genuinely curious: what do you think is awful about it?

I haven't seen it in person yet but I think that shimmery silverstone background looks pretty darn sleek. I'm still not buying it because I think the tracklisting stinks but I think they nailed the cover.

I don't like the design :( It just doesn't quite work for me, but I will reserve full judgment until I see it in person...

I wonder if the 2LP is a gatefold or not? If it isn't then that's a bit boring.
