I'm also surprised at there being no Dolby Atmos version. I thought Biff said that he'd worked on both Spice and Spiceworld. What happened?

I know I'm repeating myself but the CD situation lets them down so badly. I am so certain that this project would have had more interest if there'd been individual CDs, £10 each, £40 for a bundle of 5 and that's surely easy sales. I think it's apparent that the Spice 25 member vinyls were a key factor in its success. Oh well!

I was thinking how it's kind of strange that they sourced the Matthew's Disco Steppin' Mix of Step to Me and used it in the Party Mix but decided not to release it in its own right.

I think doing a SW25 was a no brainer and after Spice25 it had to happen as it was a success. The problems I think started when they opened the vaults and realised there was just nothing of worth left over from the recordings of Spiceworld.

I've no doubt if there was fully formed demos they would be on SW25, Step to me demo is on it and some of the vocals on Spice25 demos are not flattering. I don't see the girls being against them being used if there was any. Spice invaders (which I am glad they didn't use) and live tracks used as B-sides back in the day I'm sure show there was absolutely nothing servicable beyond Walk of life and Outer space girls (which are both on SW25).

Step to me was obviously the big selling point they had but even that had to be stretched out to being 3 tracks and in the party mix. The party mix feels like a what else can we add to this track. I personally like it but its inclusion tells me they were genuinely out of material to include.

Of course the best could have been done to clean up the live tracks as much as possible but as the general reaction came when the tracklist was announced most were not here for live tracks anyway.

So in theory a SW25 release should be amazing but in reality there probably wasn't the material to make it worthwhile. Especially when SW the movie has its own plans so anything from that I'm assuming will be being used for the 25th anniversary of the movie.

The 4 videos released have been top notch. A live video (Move over in HQ), a lyric video for Step to me, an alt version of SUYL and a new montage video for NGUOTGT. With zero involvement from the girls themselves that is about as good as it was ever going to get.

The designs are up for debate, some love the silver and look others don't. I don't think they were ever going to please everyone with it so it is what it is. The formats I think reflect that there just wasn't the material to justify going overboard with a zillion formats.

The good news is the movie has a lot of stuff that never saw the light of day like the Mama performance, dining room table scene, it on Blu-ray and on streaming services. Power or 5 and the SYBT mix never getting official releases and the final SUYL performance not having an official release on Youtube. So I'm hopeful that will be a more worthwhile anniversary.

Mel C said one of the reason why there werent so many demos or unreleased tracks this time was cos the girls werent comfortable with the bum notes or the quality of them, which is WILD to me as they must have heard the live tracks that went on to be published lol

Im sorry but this is clearly a lack of interest from them, and there is clearly some of them blocking unreleased tracks and demos, as it has been talked about many many times.

I'm not hopeful at all from them as a group anymore. This is the type of attitude that does kill the legacy, a complete disregard for their own music and legacy. It is no wonder it is flopping, sorry.

SW25 needed and deserved better than this shite.

I’m sorry but that is such rubbish they have plenty of things in the vault. For a start there are recordings from Spiceworld movie that could have been used outside of Leader of the gang such as My boy lollipop and the Spice Girls girl power chant which. Plus they clearly recorded studio vocals for we are family for the tour so that could have been included, perhaps sisters duet. Then their songwriters have confirmed there are a few unreleased tracks, plus there are some left over from Spice that they did not use, they could be cleaned up and made serviceable for a release.

Finally we also know they have a full live album recorded for the Birmingham show that was going to be released just sitting there and instead we got the very low quality crap random live tracks.

Finally they lack of creativeness put into the campaign such as no individual vinyl or cd covers and the cheap looking background design they actually signed off on shows they really did not give a crap.

They just don’t care enough about the group it’s obvious and has been for years.

You literally quoted me and I said Spiceworld the movie is getting its own anniversary release so anything from it will be used for that I would hope and assume. On that note My boy lillipop isn't the spice girls singing it any way is it?

Sisters was already released as a live track and was pretty much fully live on tour. I don't think they have that recorded.

We are family fair enough I guess.

Spice tracks on a SW reissue is just hopeful, why not stick Woman on it too then.

Not the same at all and you know it and if you are going to play that game then Step to me is technically form Spice recording sessions even if it was put on Spiceworld in Japan so it’s no difference at all. You completely ignored that their own songwriters have confirmed tracks are unreleased from that era.

Also when we get nothing from Spiceworld The Movie will you then take back your comment about the tracks from their that could have been used? All we will get is a DVD release some T-shirts and posters and possibly it being on Netflix or Amazon prime not music from it.

So is my boy lillipop sang by the Spice girls? You seem to want it on SW25?

I have downloaded the singles before the rest of the album to make up for downloading the whole of the SW album on iTunes many years ago

I have no doubt they recorded it for the film, and even if they didn’t they certainly did for sound off and again for the third time their own songwriters confirmed there are unreleased Spiceworld tracks (alongside the spice ones). So let’s stop pretending the girls have done the best they can.

Can you give me the name of specific tracks that were recorded during the SW sessions that weren't used? We have long lists of songs from Touch/Spice era, Forever and even the GH recording.

You keep saying about songwriters I assume you mean Biff that once. He can be confused, Emma thought Stop was on Spice. They answer these questions a zillion times sometimes they get muddled.

The only song I'm aware that was recorded around the time was Cant stay tonight which I believe only has Mel C's vocals?

So you have the military chant (a movie song) and hopefully a studio recording of We are family a cover song not anything to do really with SW or the recording sessions just a song they like to sing on pretty much every tour.

They shouldn't have released a SW 25 if there's nothing of value in the archives. Hopefully the underperformance of this release will force them to put more effort into Forever 25. Though I suspect there won't be an anniversary edition of that album for multiple reasons.

Agreed.

I think the idea of Forever25, or anything to celebrate that dysfunctional era, is dead in the water.

I think our last hope is for Goodbye25. Release an expanded edition of the Goodbye EP with the 1998/1999 tracks, right at the end of a final tour in July 2023. Done. That would make me happy and I'd never ask for anything else.

I could see them releasing a 25th anniversary vinyl of Goodbye with Woman on it. That way Woman gets officially released without having to celebrate Forever.

They couldn't even be arsed cleaning up the live tracks they put on the album, but no I am the delusional one there is nothing in the vaults of any value that could POSSIBLY be used on Spiceworld... It is quite hypocritical seeing you trash the girls (except Emma) for every solo effort and then refuse to say a bad word against the group for something which is ten times worse and instead parrot out excuses which actually you also have no evidence of... you also totally ignored the fact they have a full live album professionally recorded which could have been included instead of those cheap awful youtube rip things they did instead, that on it's own and then Step to me in a 2CD would have been more than enough, so they do have things in the vault they just don't care.

So I'll take that as no you cant name any songs recorded for SW that aren't already out there.

Who says I'm defending them? I'm just reacting to claims of they could have put X, Y and Z on it when you cant actually say what X, Y and Z are. By all means criticise the sound quality of the live tracks or the actual tracklist but taking aim for not including fantasy songs on it that only exist in people's heads is laughable.

For what it is worth I'm told the Birmingham files were lost years ago.

I don't criticise any of the girls with pie in the sky baseless stuff. If I said for Mel C's next album load of shit why isn't the duet with Adele on it I'd expect everyone to say there is no Adele duet.

I can’t even talk about how much I hate the picture disc.

 I feel you on this one. I don’t know what the designer was thinking. I assume their brain wasn’t switched on. :( The measurements are totally off if there was ever an intention to have the disc & sleeve align properly.

This is what I think the formats should have been:

1: 1xLP - Silver (Grey) Vinyl / With the silver artwork cover, but without the “let’s try and make it look metallic” effect - just a solid colour.

2: 2xLP - White Vinyl / Using the picture of the group that they actually used for the picture disc in reality. The second vinyl track list would include Walk of Life and Outer Space Girls, and every live track would be sourced from Birmingham.

3: Picture Disc / Using the Spiceworld 25 globe as its main image on Side A - and the sleeve would have nothing printed on it, so that there’s no “align the disc with the sleeve” concept. With a large enough circular hole so that the globe can be displayed fully. Side B image could be that image of them where they were holding inflatable globes.

4: Double Cassette / I wouldn’t change the overall design of this, bar losing the “metallic” effect & using Birmingham live audio.

5: 2xCD Book / I can’t say anything about this as we’ve not seen it lol, but again, Birmingham live audio instead.

6, 7, 8, 9, 10: Standard CDs / Each CD using a solo picture of each girl.

For what it is worth I'm told the Birmingham files were lost years ago.

These are in the BBC’s archive, so if the label didn’t have them anymore, all they needed to do was contact them in order to sort out the licensing. If none of the team realised this possibility, that’s a shame. Then they’d have had release worthy quality live audio to use instead of thinking their only option was to rip from lossy sources.

The BBC seem very willing to share content with artists. Steps managed to source countless BBC performances for their YouTube channel. It’s frustrating to think that Universal has an extremely easy option to get great quality live files… if they’d realised that this was an option. Gah.
