These are in the BBC’s archive, so if the label didn’t have them anymore, all they needed to do was contact them in order to sort out the licensing. If none of the team realised this possibility, that’s a shame. Then they’d have had release worthy quality live audio to use instead of thinking their only option was to rip from lossy sources.

The BBC seem very willing to share content with artists. Steps managed to source countless BBC performances for their YouTube channel. It’s frustrating to think that Universal has an extremely easy option to get great quality live files… if they’d realised that this was an option. Gah.

I refuse to believe for one second they do not know!

I ripped and uploaded the Instagram Spiceworld 25 advert, not sure if it'll be taken down for copyright though lol:

They couldn't even be arsed cleaning up the live tracks they put on the album, but no I am the delusional one there is nothing in the vaults of any value that could POSSIBLY be used on Spiceworld... It is quite hypocritical seeing you trash the girls (except Emma) for every solo effort and then refuse to say a bad word against the group for something which is ten times worse and instead parrot out excuses which actually you also have no evidence of... you also totally ignored the fact they have a full live album professionally recorded which could have been included instead of those cheap awful youtube rip things they did instead, that on it's own and then Step to me in a 2CD would have been more than enough, so they do have things in the vault they just don't care.

The world has declared: standing ovation

The Beatles' Revolver reissue sales from last Friday:

20,931 [11,561 CDs, 5,832 vinyls, 836 downloads, 2,703 streaming]

If that's not an obvious indication that CDs are still a really important format for sales, then I don't know what is! They had a standard £10.99 CD, a 2CD deluxe for £17.99 and a 5CD box set for £124.99.

Having a cheaper standard CD on the market is clearly the key. Neither Spice 25 nor Spiceworld 25 having one is shortsighted at best, incredibly stupid at worst.

THIS!! Specially since Spiceworld standard CD hasnt even been available for well over 10 years!! I can underdstand with Spice25 as there are still so many in circulation and it is also still in print, but with Spiceworld it felt YET AGAIN like a total lost opportunity.

Agree with this. There is no salvation for the quality of this release and we shouldnt try to excuse it when it is clearly a horribly and carelessly cash grab that is destined to flop, almost feels like it is on purpose lol...

ALSO, for the f***ing final time, both Melanie C and Biff mentioned at different times they HAD demos from Spiceworld sessions that were never used. Biff mentioned it on his instagram Q&A and Mel in some interviews last year during her american press tour.

Let's stop making excuses just because the girls refuse to release them or even mentioning titles of demos of songs from that era. We know they did more than what we got.

When I spoke to Chris who did the Step to me lyric video I asked about getting performances from TOTP on Youtube for the Spice Girls like Steps and he said Sony (think it was Sony will double check the messages) have a deal in place with the BBC where they can use BBC archive footage/material. Universal has no such deal with them.

Also Melanie C herself said it last month, during one of her book Q&As that the reason why there arent demos on Spiceworld25 was because the girls were worried about it not being of great quality and there being some bum notes on it. She mentioned it was a shame, but thats what it was.

So please, this excuse of not having any demos to release is crap. We know there are and we know that even demos from the released songs of Spiceworld25 exist.

Universal suck

Universal suck

They do when it comes to Spice releases. Other similar celebratory releases from Universal have been put together so much better and with more expansive and high quality amounts of unreleased music and live tracks.

I'm sorry but this seems very much like the girls chose to not have the type of release that other artists had, and it is baffling to be honest...

I am sure it is not just the girls fault, and it is a mix of various issues at play.

But yes, Universal really needs to give the girls a proper record deal so that they do get around the table and do things better. This way, no-one gives a crap at all.

Universal are a big label with huge artists and lots of them. So whilst the Spice Girls make money for them so do loads of current artists too who make big money. The girls would defo be better with a smaller label holding their music rights who would pride themselves on having the girls music and releases on the roster.

Again chatting last night about the release Universal were unwilling to do a exclusive poster for HMV and there sales. Also they didn't see a problem with the 2 LP and clear vinyl having the same cover even when it was pointed out that different covers would defo help as a selling point.

They're infuriating <_< How did they not see for themselves via Spice 25 that different covers for vinyl = very good sales?

Sure, there are many releases that use the same vinyl cover while going for different colour vinyl instead - which is what they've done with Spiceworld. However, collectors are most enthused when the artwork is different too. Case in point: Taylor Swift!

Tbh them not even bothering to make the 2LP a gatefold (like Forever) is another indication of their lack of giving a damn.

Oh and here's the Sunday midweek update from Spice Circle:

#8 - 1,904 sales

127 sales yesterday. Ouch!

I'm rather enjoying the Party Mix, although the production of it sounds REALLY LQ. The best bit is Never Give Up On The Good Times into Wannabe.

This is so cute I love it the rubix cube is a lovely touch’s wonder why they didn’t include a clip of too much too? Could also have included never give up since they have the new official video.

I'm not surprised if the girls are not a high priority at Universal. They are a legacy act that hasn't released an album in 22 years. Not to mention it seems like the girls themselves don't want certain demos and outtakes released. Why would Universal spend much money or time on half baked anniversary editions?
f*** me, the streaming numbers are incredibly low... Some of the tracks are yet to break 3000 streams on spotify

There hasn't been a single post on social media about streaming the album, Universal defo don't seem to care about it. All the direction for streaming has gone into Youtube, which surprise surprise I'm sure I remember reading an article that Youtube pays the best per stream.

SW25 was really up against it compared to Spice25. Spice25 had 12 new formats, 10 of them were under £19.99 on the official store. It also had a push from Spotify with the spice bus and drag queens plus dolby atmos.

SW25 has 4 formats on release week with the cheapest being a £19.99 double cassette with absolutely no push on streaming and no dolby atmos. The only formats HMV have for release week are two £30 vinyls and Amazon has 1 £25 vinyl as the only format out on release week. Honestly it is surprising it might actually do as well as a 3rd of Spice25 sales opening week.

Actually, Spotify pays more than YouTube.

"If you distribute your music to YouTube you can expect $0.000069 per stream whilst Spotify pays out $0.0043. So, to earn $1 with YouTube you would need to be streamed 570 times and on Spotify, you would need 229 streams".
