Posted November 12, 20213 yr Now we have the added context of Ed's 2nd week and Abba's opening how do we think the Top 10 of next week's album chart is going to go? New Release Contenders: Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak presents Silk Sonic - An Evening With Silk Sonic Damon Albarn - The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows Kylie Minogue - Disco: Guest List Edition Little Mix - Between Us Idles - Crawler Rod Stewart - The Tears Of Hercules Ronan Keating - Songs From Home Taylor Swift - Red (Taylor's Version) The Wanted - Most Wanted: The Greatest Hits
November 12, 20213 yr Potentially some fantastic sales coming through for them all and a boost to the album/physical market. Also there is a lot of activity this week to boost sales - The Wanted have initiate album launch shows and HMV signings, Ronan and Damon have album launch shows, Signed CDs from Taylor, 20+ formats/bundle variations from Little Mix
November 12, 20213 yr Author It seems like Abba are the safe option for staying at #1 at this point, they're still selling substantially on a daily basis and should probably shift another 50k this week. I'm leaning towards Taylor taking 2nd at the moment with her multi-formats and signed CDs, plus she'll no doubt get more streaming than the rest of the week's new releases. Then the rest of the top 10 looking something like: 1 Abba - Voyage 2 Taylor Swift - Red (Taylor's Version) 3 Ed Sheeran - = 4 Rod Stewart - The Tears Of Hercules 5 Little Mix - Between Us 6 Idles - Crawler 7 Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak presents Silk Sonic - An Evening With Silk Sonic 8 Ronan Keating - Songs From Home 9 Kylie Minogue - Disco: Guest List Edition 10 Damon Albarn - The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows (11 The Wanted - Most Wanted: The Greatest Hits) [edit: forgot to add 'highest new entry' part of the poll]
November 12, 20213 yr Hard to predict, I've gone with ABBA, and assuming they drop to about 45-50k in the second week. Maybe could be just a little too high a bar for the others to get to, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Rod, Little Mix or Taylor running them close.
November 12, 20213 yr Actually this time Taylor doesn't have many formats out, only just 1 vinyl for what I can see, and super expensive I passed on buying the vinyl cos it's too much, it's like 50 euros I think On the other hand, L Mix have so many formats I lost count :) I'd bet on: 1 Rod Stewart 2 Ed 3 ABBA 4 Little Mix 5 Taylor Edited November 12, 20213 yr by Bjork

November 12, 20213 yr I think it is just going to be ABBA again now and actually think they might be being underestimated in this thread so far, I could see them doing another 60-70k in their second week with how strong their daily sales have continued to be throughout the first. I still reckon it'll be Rod getting the highest debut with around 40-50k, I just don't see Taylor increasing to that range from the 21k 'Fearless' did (vinyls and signed CDs will help but not doubling help I'd say) and again I don't think Little Mix are going to do as well with this as they did with 'Confetti', I think they would need a crazy level of multibuying to overcome the general lack of buzz there seems to be about this release. Silk Sonic is an interesting wildcard now, I'd have written it off entirely this time last week and I would still be surprised if it beat any of the previous 3 but I think they've managed to save themselves now from what seemed like a kind of disastrous rollout. Haven't thought much about any of those other new releases but I don't think they'll be troubling the top 5 (maybe Kylie might at a push?), could have some decent sales in the lower half of the top 10 though.
November 12, 20213 yr Taylor’s album is both #1 and #6 on iTunes, so she has a very good chance of being #1.
November 12, 20213 yr This is really hard. I think Taylor Swift, ABBA and Little Mix will occupy the top 3. I couldn't tell the order though.
November 12, 20213 yr It’s so hard to know as you could make arguments for all five being top. I want to say ABBA will get the #1 but it’s so hard to predict how their sales are going to fall. Also will Ed keep up some physical sales because I don’t think his streams are enough. Taylor will get some good streaming I reckon and it looks like she’s getting lots of downloads. But then Little Mix have loads of physical formats which could do really well. I think it’s unlikely Rod will be #1 but his fan base could still pull through. Edited November 12, 20213 yr by Frenchie
November 12, 20213 yr Taylor (Doing amazingly on Apple Music + we just know she’s sold 10k signed cd’s) ABBA Little Mix (purely because of the variants) Rod (just falling short of LM) Ed
November 12, 20213 yr I think ABBA will be #1 again with sales between 50-60k. Rod Stewart will be highest new entry, followed by Taylor Swift. I don't think theres enough hype around this LM greatest hits for it to contend for #1 on a week with strong competition. Kylie will probably get into the lower half of the Top 10 due to her strong fanbase. My bet: 1. ABBA 2. Rod 3. Taylor 4. Ed 5. Little Mix
November 12, 20213 yr Guessing sales must be close - Rod Stewart has just announced signed art cards with any format https://shop.thisisdig.com/uk/catalogsearch...ce&dir=desc
November 12, 20213 yr I am sure these artists would be pushing such sales tactics regardless of whether sales are close or not? This kind of thing is pretty much standard practice now.
November 12, 20213 yr I am sure these artists would be pushing such sales tactics regardless of whether sales are close or not? This kind of thing is pretty much standard practice now. For an artist like Rod though? Certainly something he’s never been interested in before apart from 1 HMV signing album launch that I remember that was limited to 150 people.
November 12, 20213 yr Maybe that says more about how prominent this multi formatting / signed formats culture has become in the last year or two since Rod last released an album than anything else. (I guess it's probably always been a thing but I don't remember it being so constant until fairly recently, it now feels like there are artists going out of their way to push tactics like this almost every week)
November 12, 20213 yr I went for Abba and 50-60k. Hard to say who will get the highest new entry, I went for Little Mix but I'm now thinking it could Rod Stewart? It's an open race. So many new albums out this week though, could we get 8 new entries in the top ten?! (well actually 7 as 'Disco' will be a re-entry/climber) Edited November 12, 20213 yr by Mangø
November 12, 20213 yr Whilst there obviously not going to do outdo ABBA or Ed Sheeran, I wouldn't underestimate Idles, they've been blowing up these past few years. Top 5 seems remotely possible. Edited November 12, 20213 yr by chartfridays
November 12, 20213 yr All of these releases will only need to sell like 10k at a push (probably even less than that) to beat all of the non-ABBA/Ed incumbents so yeah, 7 new entries and Kylie re-entering seems like a reasonably safe bet. edit: the bar might even feasibly be as low as like 5k depending on how Elton is holding up. I feel like IDLES will probably sell less than they did with their last album? It's a bit soon for another new album from them and I don't think the last one was that well received by the fanbase. Hope not though.
