Oof funny that the moment we enter the Top 100, three good tracks get taken out in one swoop. My favourite of them is the brilliant Geno though.... if there were more points to give I definitely would have voted for it. :gino:
Absolutely love ‘Geno’ but I didn’t have room for it, really feels old fashioned now but think that’s what they were aiming for. Not the biggest fan of ‘True Blue’ but think she was so big by 1986 everything was selling. Falcao feels like it’s got a lot bigger in recent years!

German singer LaFee recorded some cover versions of 80s hits (including "Rock Me Amadeus", "Material Girl", "Big In Japan", "Take On Me") on her 2021 album.

NO 100- 35 POINTS

True Blue Madonna (Voter: Jason- 17 points, Bjork- 18 points)- No 1 for 1 week in October 1986

The first loss of 6 entries and all in the top 100. Also the first points lost for Bjork. I didn’t realise until earlier this year that the version that charted and was played on radio isn’t the version in the video (flop fan).

I didn't know, either, but I'm not a Madonna fan. I only know the video version of course and that's an amazing pop song imo.

It sounds unfair, but predictable knowing Buzzjackers taste, that True Blue had only 2 voters while the overrated Like a Prayer should have had 25 or 26 voters out of 31 voters. :teresa:

I really love Rock Me Amadeus! It's that type of quirky singalong track that you just would never get in the UK charts these days, an utter joy.

Madonna went right off it the minute she split up with then-hubby Sean Penn. I loved the throwback 50's feel to it, but she's done her best to bury the memory of it ever since, despite it being the title album track....

all great tracks that I would have voted for with more votes open to me...

A shame that the first song I lose is my second favourite! I've always loved Geno and thought it would do better than me giving it 75% of its score.

The song that brought Boy George to the public eye and caused a media furore with questions over his sex in many a household. The group still have another entry of course.

The lowest placed of their three No 1’s BUT the highest placed Eurovision winner of the decade.

Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic The Police (Voter: JulianT- 19 points, Rabbitfurcoat- 16 points, Gooddelta- 3 points, …Ready for it- 2 points)- No 1 for 1 week in November 1981

Second of three Police tracks to exit the rate, and a song which everyone except Sting hated and didn’t want to record.

Pleased to see Making Your Mind Up in the Top 100. It is the weakest of their 3 No.1s, though I still love it.

Its just a shame that its all Bucks Fizz/The Fizz are ever asked to perform now (though Land of Make Believe sometimes gets a look in).

Always loved ‘Making Your Mind Up’ even though it is pure cheese it’s pop perfection!

Too many songs I couldn’t vote for lol!

Absolutely love ‘Geno’ but I didn’t have room for it, really feels old fashioned now but think that’s what they were aiming for.

Yep the song is influenced by late 1960s upbeat soul music by Geno Washington who was a popular live artist with a big underground following in the late 60s. Another 60s influenced 80s number 1, there really were lots!

Although I originally thought Geno was another 1980 ska influenced song because of the trumpets in it. Maybe it was ska influenced too though.

'Rock Me Amadeus' by Falco is very good, a rare new wave styled hit at at time when there were no longer many new wave style tracks making the charts sadly.

Wake Me Up Before You Go Go Wham! (Voter: Donnahjaneymack- 10 points, …Ready for it- 5 points, Gezza- 27 points)- No 1 for 2 weeks in June 1984

Their third chart topper to leave the rate leaving just one entry left. It created some media beef with Duran Duran when George stated that the song would debut at No 1 and knock the Durranies off the top. It didn’t debut at No 1 but it did happen just 7 days later.

Too Shy Kajagoogoo (Voter: Jason- 2 points, …Ready for it- 29 points, Jester- 11 points)- No 1 for 2 weeks in February 1983

And talking about Duran Duran, this was famously produced by Nick Rhodes of the group and generated a chart topper before Duran Duran ever managed one themselves.

One Moment In Time Whitney Houston (Voter: Fiesta- 9 points, Riser- 10 points, Jason- 18 points)- No 1 for 2 weeks in October 1988

Whitney’s third chart topper is the second to leave the rate, recorded for the Olympics that year and used for coverage of the event it only made No 5 in the states at a time when she usually made the top spot.

*position has changed as points awarded to the track in error!
