Posted November 19, 20213 yr I believe we now have had 20 consecutive weeks without a non-UK artist at #1 in the singles chart? Is this a record?
November 19, 20213 yr Depends if you count Rockabye where Sean Paul is (inexplicably, and like Anne-Marie) not credited by the OCC. In which case it has to be 30 weeks from 2016-17: James Arthur - Say You Won't Let Go (3 weeks) Little Mix - Shout Out To My Ex (3 weeks) Clean Bandit - Rockabye (9 weeks) Ed Sheeran - Shape Of You (13 weeks) Harry Styles - Sign Of The Times (1 week) Ed Sheeran - Shape Of You (1 week) until the run was broken by Zara Larsson who was credited by the OCC alongside Clean Bandit on Symphony.
November 19, 20213 yr Lmao why exactly did OCC never credit Sean Paul and Anne-Marie on Rockabye? It's not like its a remix and Clean Bandit DO credit them on the single, they are listed as officially featured when you go to purchase or listen to the track.

The OCC use the credits submitted by the label, for some reason the label didn't credit Sean Paul and Anne-Marie...! Obviously it's very much a #1 for them both as well as Clean Bandit regardless of the OCC, it'd be silly not to count that.
November 19, 20213 yr How about in the distant past? Had a brief look and can see 28 weeks between 8/8/1963 and 13/2/1964 with the Beatles with 11 weeks over 2 songs, the Searchers (5 weeks over 2 songs), Gerry and the Pacemakers (4 wks), Billie J Kramer and the Dakotas (3 weeks), Brian Poole and the Tremoloes (3 weeks) and Dave Clarke Five (2 weeks). This was all during the feted "British Invasion" - assuming that pre then there were mainly Elvis and many other US crooners. And post 60s became more international - plus long reigning no.1s were fairly rare for several decades meaning more of a spread of artists. Edited November 19, 20213 yr by Smint
November 19, 20213 yr 1953 - 2 weeks - Stargazers - Broken Wings (1) / Patti Page - How Much is That Doggie in the Window (1) 1954 - 15 weeks - David Whitfield - Answer Me / Eddie Calvert - Oh Mein Papa / The Stargazers - I See The Moon 1960/1961 - 21 weeks - Cliff Richard / Adam Faith / Emile Ford / Michael Holliday / Anthony Newley / Adam Faith 1962 - 30 weeks - Cliff Richard and the Shadows - Bachelor Boy / The Shadows - Dance On / Jet Harris and Tony Meehan - Diamonds / Frank Ifield - The Wayward Wind / Cliff Richard and the Shadows - Summer Holiday / The Shadows - Foot Tapper / Cliff Richard and the Shadows - Summer Holiday / Gerry & The Pacemakers - How Do You Do It / The Beatles - From Me To You / Gerry and the Pacemakers - I Like You / Frank Ifield - Confessin That I Love You Things get complicated after this….. Counting Shakespeare’s sister as British despite having an American member- 1991 / 1992 - 32 weeks - George Michael & Elton John - Don’t Let The Sun Go Down on Me / Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody / Shakespeare’s Sister - Stay / Right Said Fred - Deeply Dipply / KWS - Please Don’t Go / Game Boy / Erasure - ABBA-esque EP / Jimmy Nail - Ain’t No Doubt At that point I gave up out of frustration and also not wanting to go back and check nationalities of band members for all the other tracks that had hit No 1 before that, or work out what to do with those who held dual nationalities or moved into the UK as kids so haven't check most of the 90s/00s/10s. November 19, 20213 yr Thanks for that chartfridays - had a look since post 1992 and pre 2016 and most I can find after a quick scan is 20 weeks from 2/12/2006 ('Patience' (Take That), 'A Moment Like This' (Leona Lewis),'Grace Kelly' (Mika),'Ruby' (Kaiser Chiefs),'Shine' (Take That),'Walk this Way' (Little Mix, Sugababes),'I'm Gonna Br (500 miles)' (Proclaimers) before 'Give it to Me'(Timbaland/Timberlake/Furtado) takes over. So the 1991/1992 period gets it. Edited November 19, 20213 yr by Smint

January 5, 20223 yr Author Looks like Adele will make it 28 consecutive weeks on 4 now - just 4 short of the record….
