Posted December 6, 20213 yr HATECHART 2021 It's getting to that time now when we reflect on the year that has passed us. And let's be honest, there was a lot of stuff in the chart that wasn't all that good. As the weekly hate chart stopped being a thing many years ago, the hate chart is now a yearly affair. Get your puke emoticons at the ready. Last year 6ix9ine became the first repeat "winner" of the hate chart. This year he has thankfully disappeared so the #1 spot is all up for grabs again. The first batch of songs that got hated the least will be revealed this evening. December 6, 20213 yr Author #37. Olivia Rodrigo ~ déjà vu [40 points] Most hated: Jason (+15) 27-26-12-13-13-16-11-{4}-5-4-5->11 #36. Olivia Rodrigo ~ Drivers License [43 points] Most hated: Jason (+13) {1}-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-18-21-27-28-34-38-37-43-40-35-6R(2)->20 So at the very bottom of the Hate List this year we have Olivia Rodrigo. Olivia was arguably the year's biggest breakthrough star having a huge debut hit in 'Drivers License' and quickly followed up by 'Deja Vu'. She wasn't to everyone's taste here although many would put these amongst the year's best hits. However there wasn't a whole lot of disdain for these two either, quite impressively in the case of 'License' for being such a big hit not to mention 'Good 4 U' didn't even make the cut. #35. Justin Bieber ~ Anyone [49 points] Most hated: detonate (+18) {4}-5-8-7-9-9-11-14-15-23-49-25R(2)-31-40->14 Justin Bieber started off 2021 the way he did with 2020 by releasing a brand new song for an album lead-in. Thankfully, it wasn't half as bad as 'Yummy', although it still had a few haters. I'm not particularly fond of it either with his vocals sounding rather strained in the chorus but it's far from the worst thing he's ever done. #34. Mimi Webb ~ 24/5 [53 points] Most hated: Mack (+12) {25}-34-34-33-35-33-25-29-37-41->10 Mimi Webb had 3 singles make the top 40 this year and they're all in the hate chart. Unsurprisingly the worst-performing of those is the lowest here although it's not a whole lot preferable to what is to come from her later on. #33. The Kid Laroi ~ So Done [55 points] Most hated: LMLou (+18) 57-71-44-51-58-71-68-40R(4)-{38}-38-46-52-57->13 A minor breakthrough hit from The Kid Laroi just peaking as the follow up started really taking off but still fresh in enough peoples minds to make it onto the rundown. It is preferable to 'Without You' easily but I'm also very glad this never got bigger than it did. #32. Whitney Houston and Clean Bandit ~ How Will I Know [56 points] Most hated: rio309 (+13) DNC Top 75 One of two pointless dance remakes of the Whitney song this year, this one actually featuring her vocals but with a lacklustre performance from Clean Bandit here. #31. James Arthur ~ Medicine [60 points] Most hated: Snakin' Stevens (+11) {41}-54-43-43-43-49-44-46-49->9 A middling minor hit from James Arthur with his vocal being as intolerable as ever.
December 6, 20213 yr I never heard Medicine and the Whitney/Clean Bandit thing is okay but I'm glad the rest are out quickly, none of them deserved to be here, especially Anyone and SO DONE! Let's hope WITHOUT YOU is out nice and quickly next x
December 6, 20213 yr Author #30. Clinton Kane ~ I Guess I'm In Love [63 points] Most hated: Snakin' Stevens (+15) {22}-28-35-32-37-39-39-40-43-44->10 Now for me this was one of the absolute worst songs to hit the chart, absolutely dull and saccharine with his vocal taking annoying singing to the limit. Thank god he didn't turn out to quite be the male Olivia Rodrigo. #29. Olivia Rodrigo ~ Traitor [63 points] Most hated: Dobbo, Jason (+18) 7-{5}R(2)-8-9-11-10-13-13-16-14-16-13-15-43-56-59-61-64-69-73-70-68->22 Speaking of Olivia here she is with her most disliked song of the year (though I do wonder how 'Good 4 U' would've done here, as I'd have given that big points), a song that was kinda like 'Drivers License' except even worse. #28. Doja Cat ~ Ain't S**t [64 points] Most hated: Cow Cow (+12) 29-43-38-29-{26}-27-31-34->8 A mildly annoying Doja Cat song which we had TikTok to thank for otherwise it would've just been left as an unheard of album track. Radio 1's absolute butchering of the song clearly didn't do it any favours either. #27. Tones & I ~ Fly Away [65 points] Most hated: LiamSine, Dot Branning (+15) 70-42-33-25-26-16-19-19-19-{11}-13-16-21-42-53-55-57-64-73->19 I had a dream that some day, all Tones & I haters would just fly, fly away. But seriously this should be one of the least offensive songs of the year, maybe it would be if she had a more palatable vocal. But 'Dance Monkey' never made its way to the Hatechart and this did so it must be aggravating some nerves. #26. BTS ~ Butter [66 points] Most hated: Bjork (+18) {3}-7-13-23-26-28-30-34-45-52-62-32R(4)-69->13 One of two entries for BTS here, the song had quite the saga in the US chart but a fairly standard chart run here for a hyped release. It isn't a bad song but definitely one that would've got on my nerves if I had to hear it more times than I already did.
December 6, 20213 yr 'Fly Away' is the most tolerable Tones And I song I've heard (I didn't even vote for it), I really don't get why that was here when 'Dance Monkey' wasn't ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
December 6, 20213 yr Author #25. Rag'n'Bone Man and P!nk ~ Anywhere Away From Here [68 points] Most hated: Dobbo (+15) 32-51-32-31-{9}-9-11-14-20-62-70->11 A song that is dull as dishwater but a perfectly timed Brits performance got it in the top 10. So bland, that I didn't even care enough to vote for it. #24. The Kid Laroi ~ Without You [69 points] Most hated: Danvember (+18) 75-23R(4)-24-31-26-7-6-5-{2}-4-3-5-5-7-8-27-28-32-35-44-42-41-30-13-18-14-42-53-64-68-73->31 No contest for me this is the absolute most annoying chart hit of the year and of course it had to be one of the year's absolute biggest hits too. I'm honestly surprised it's this low, it seemed to be very marmite in the chart thread. Perhaps 'Stay' being actually decent made people forget about how bad this was. #23. Måneskin ~ Beggin' [70 points] Most hated: ...ready for it (+18) 73-10-7-7-8-{6}-9-9-9-32-36-44-53-64-62-60-63-69->18 Måneskin's biggest world hit since breaking through from Eurovision, it was also their most polarising song with the strong vocal being a bit much for a few of us. #22. Kanye West ~ Off the Grid [73 points] Most hated: ...ready for it (+11) {15}-25-45-69->4 A 5 minute long Kanye-led drill song (with two uncredited guest features) was never exactly going to be to Buzzjack's taste and it ended up as his sole entry in the Hatechart this year. #21. Central Cee ~ Obsessed With You [78 points] Most hated: ChristmasFridays (+15) 5-{4}-5-4-6-7-6-8-9-11-15-57->12 Another drill song here, with Central Cee getting his biggest hit to date he certainly annoyed a lot of us taking the basis of a recent garage-pop hit and having a much bigger chart hit than the original by rapping all over it with some pretty standard lyrics for the genre. It's by no means his worst hit though and doesn't really deserve to be in the list.
December 6, 20213 yr Author the list so far 21 78 Central Cee ~ Obsessed With You 22 73 Kanye West ~ Off the Grid 23 70 Måneskin ~ Beggin' 24 69 The Kid Laroi ~ Without You 25 68 Rag'n'Bone Man and P!nk ~ Anywhere Away From Here 26 66 BTS ~ Butter 27 65 Tones & I ~ Fly Away 28 64 Doja Cat ~ Ain't S**t 29 63 Olivia Rodrigo ~ Traitor 30 63 Clinton Kane ~ I Guess I'm In Love 31 60 James Arthur ~ Medicine 32 56 Whitney Houston and Clean Bandit ~ How Will I Know 33 55 The Kid Laroi ~ So Done 34 53 Mimi Webb ~ 24/5 35 49 Justin Bieber ~ Anyone 36 43 Olivia Rodrigo ~ Drivers License 37 40 Olivia Rodrigo ~ déjà vu #11-20 tomorrow #01-10 tomorrowmorrow contenders (A-Z) Ariana Grande ~ 34+35 Bella Poarch ~ Build a Bitch BTS ~ Permssion to Dance CJ ~ Whoopty Ckay ~ Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah) D-Block Europe and Lil Pino ~ Kevin McCallister David Guetta, MistaJam and John Newman ~ If You Really Love Me (How Will I Know) Digga D ~ Red Light Green Light Digga D ~ Wasted (feat. A1 x J1)
December 6, 20213 yr Sorry but Obsessed With You definitely deserves to be on the list. Utterly atrocious stuff. I wouldn't have thought anyone could have made a more annoying song out of the original til I heard it.
December 6, 20213 yr Happy that 'Off The Grid' is in the lower half here, easily one of the best songs on this list.
December 7, 20213 yr Author #20. Justin Bieber ~ Peaches (feat. Daniel Caesar and Giveon) [79 points] Most hated: Viper* (+15) 3-3-{2}-2-2-2-4-6-7-29-28-32-32-41-45-52-61-58-67->19 Justin Bieber's biggest musical crime of the year turned out to be his biggest hit (besides the 'Stay' feature) because of course it was. The two guest features are alright if a little dull but the chorus is hella annoying and it's sung about 10 times in 3 minutes. #19. Russ Millions and Tion Wayne ~ Body [81 points] Most hated: WhoOdyssey, ChristmasFridays (+18) 21-12-11-14-4-{1}-1-1-2-2-8-11-14-23-26-35-38-43-52-51-56-63-67->23 The year's biggest rap song so it only being #19 here is quite the result, it had three big haters but not a whole lot else besides that so it seems most of us didn't really mind this song, it even had a couple of fans too. #18. Oliver Tree ~ Life Goes On [81 points] Most hated: Sergej (+15) 58-41-34-37-40-{33}-42-56-68->9 One of the worse offenders of TikTok getting a no-name into the chart for no good reason, hopefully this is the first and last we hear of him and his annoying vocal. #17. Ckay ~ Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah) [86 points] Most hated: lewistgreen (+18) 23-9-4-{3}-3-4-4-6-7-7-27-39->12 With afrobeat becoming trendy again it was only a matter of time before TikTok would give us a random big hit from it. I suppose it is a bit too reliant on the ah-ah-ah hook but for me it's by no means a bad song. #16. Bella Poarch ~ Build a Bitch [87 points] Most hated: Cow Cow (+18) 37-32-{30}-31-38-37-40-41-54-61->10 TikTok strikes again this time with someone who actually got famous for making TikToks and trying out a pop career off of it. Despite the song being absolutely god-awful it managed a good few weeks in the chart but she'll hopefully just end up another minor one hit wonder.
December 7, 20213 yr Oliver Tree definitely isn't a 'no-name', he's been gaining online popularity since at least 2018 and his album in 2020 made the top 40 in both the US and the UK. TikTok was just giving him an actual hit single which was pretty overdue. He has two other songs with 100+ million streams on Spotify and many more with tens of millions. ('Life Goes On' is basically his worst song also so don't judge him based on that song alone xx)
December 7, 20213 yr Author #15. BTS ~ Permssion to Dance [89 points] Most hated: Danvember (+12) {16}-35-35-50-68-70->6 Basically 'Butter' ain't really worth hating when this song exists, which thankfully wasn't quite as big of a hit, for being their most annoying song yet. #14. SwitchOTR ~ Coming For You (feat. A1 x J1) [92 points] Most hated: Sergej (+18) 20-14-{10}-11-11->5 Avicii's legacy didn't deserve this. But even setting that aside this doesn't have any redeeming qualities. #13. Mimi Webb ~ Dumb Love [103 points] Most hated: Mack (+15) {12}-15-15-17-21-20-24-26-29-59-74->11 Such a nothing-y song, not helped by her vocal tone. Really baffling it even managed to be a middling hit and all while she still had her bigger hit doing well. #12. David Guetta, MistaJam and John Newman ~ If You Really Love Me (How Will I Know) [105 points] Most hated: JosephBoone (+15) 66-61-44-44-43-40-39-36-31-{27}-30-29-29-29-31->15 A very generic dance song with a cheeky Whitney interpolation for a cheap and easy hit, although I suspect they were disappointed it only got as high as #27. Wasn't even a fan of this myself so I can't moan that it's the highest dance hit here. #11. CJ ~ Whoopty [108 points] Most hated: lewistgreen (+15) 69-48-39-24-12-11-12-10-22-14-{3}-4-9-10-13-33-34-39-43-58-65-69-71->23 Remember this from a year ago? Well it seems enough of you do to have put it just outside the top 10 even if CJ as expected has now lost any relevance he ever had from this TikTok hit. For me it was one of the better drill hits we had in the year.

December 7, 20213 yr Build a Bitch was surprisingly good I thought, not worthy of hate (and I suspect if it wasn't by a TikToker it might be seen more favourably :thinking). Permission to Dance was WAY better than Butter for me! Peaches is great too but don't feel too strongly about anything else revealed (and in some cases they fully deserve their placings, notably that Guetta monstrosity) From the top 10, 34+35 feels like a surprising track to feature, I hope it's out quickly. Good Without is my favourite Mimi song but the others are worthy x
December 7, 20213 yr Oh that’s good - there were quite a few songs left that I actively like but they’ve all fallen in 20-11 so I can get on board with hating the Top 10. :)
December 7, 20213 yr Honestly I kind of like Bad Day, the rest of the top 10 are shit. Looks like it'll be going to ladbaby though.
December 7, 20213 yr 'Build a Bitch' and 'Love Nwantiti' are actually quite good. I quite liked 'Body' but thought that would be higher here.
