20 Felon feat. EKE - Fine Lines

CR: 14-9-18-38-24-7-14-16-15-33-29-27-16-26-x (14 weeks)

One of few mainstream sounding dance tracks on this EOY. I was drawn to the vocals and piano drop on this one which took me back to the 2014/2015s dance scene *.* It got a second wind on my chart after being sent by Danaevia to BJSC where it finished top 10

Hopefully they break out in 2022.

They have been on a roll for me since 'So U Kno'. Bicep level hype next year plz </3

Just given 'Bby' a listen, another interesting track! I like the way it progresses throughout the song, the repeated chopped-up vocals near the end caught me off guard a bit although I'm sure I'd get used to it if I heard it enough!

It's got a lovely progression indeed! Very unique track that I don't seem to be getting bored of at all

CR: 19-11-14-15-21-16-27-10-10-33-20-15-x (12 weeks)

Award-nominated, on-the-nose lyricist MARINA makes her EOY appearance with this criminally underrated remix of her ballad "Man's World". Empress Of gives a really cool and fun face-lift to the production and Pabllo serves vocals for days.

Our recent BJSC entry by rising Australian techno duo X CLUB. became another surprise success finishing 7th. I prefer the 8 minute Spotify version over the 6min video version (the visuals are great though). It's definitely more on the introspective, emotional side as apposed to the raucous banger style of techno. As stated in the song title brackets, a journey. :cheeseblock:

Among my favorite BJSC discoveries this year was the lush 'La Perla' sent by Vülkyria. In the words of Pitchfork, "Somehow intimate and vast all at once, it’s like a postcard view of infinity—just waves, wind, and sparkling light as far as the eye can see."

Sofia put out a great mood piece EP Fresia Magdalena this year on Ninja Tune and is one to watch for sure. Despite spending only 1 week in the top 10, the song had an epic chart run of 18 weeks. The must-listen Tourist remix is equally as good.

16 SWIM - No More Tears

CR: 1-1-6-8-6-10-19-38-x (8 weeks)

This was Kathaldazia's highest BJSC finish in ages (4th) It's a forward thinking house track in a major key with gorgeous synths and a less-is-more breakdown. SWIM has been a breakout star on my chart this year, becoming the only artist outside of Dua to snatch 2 #1s, the other being "Say Less" just last week.

Re-familiarising myself with 'No More Tears' now - I didn't recognise the title but now I'm playing it it is sounding familiar. Decent enough song even if it's not the type of music I'd tend to point.

still need to catch up on what i've yet to hear off the rundown but YAY at Fine Lines reaching the top 20 here, it will be even higher up my own ranking.

Should Have Seen It Coming will feature in my top 40 as well.

great to see Wooma up high too.

and just recently stumbled on The Beast thanks to the dance forum thread and that's sounding great.

Slayyyter wasn't on my radar until Jake recommended me this song and I've been a massive follower ever since  She's one of the most consistently good female pop divas around at the moment and really goes for it on the vocals here. I played this to death on road trips with friends. The double middle eight is one of the best in recent memory periodt.

Continuing with some more rising female producer talent, this is the highest of two Pretty Girl tracks on my EOY. Featuring laser-like chords and delectable drum patterns, ‘Arc’ will send you skyward. What is now becoming somewhat of a signature, PG lathers the trackbed in her very own saintly vocals. The synchronized swimming visualizer gives it a bit of a trippy twist

11 TDJ feat. fknsyd - Open Air

CR: 1-1-1-2-12-29-39-42-x (8 weeks)

Just missing out on the top 10 is another rising female producer TDJ with the stunning "Open Air". Ironically, it finished 10th for us in BJSC, our first top 10 since the ikonec "On a Train". With this track, we find ourselves in the IDM compositions. "Open Air" brings together influences from '90s trance, pop, dreamlike electronica. It features buzzing trance tracks and minor key piano notes on a pulsating and offbeat bass line. It properly goes off at the 2:18 mark.

CR: 16-5-5-10-8-8-24-18-7-14-26-30-22-35-48-36-25-11-x (18 weeks)

I'm a sucker for a good remix of London Grammar and this techno/melodic house re-do by CamelPhat is my favorite one since the iconic Arty Remix of 'Hey Now'. The message of the lyrics are brought more to life here with the trademark CamelPhat rhythms and some euphoric keys making a good track a timeless one.

Every once in a blue moon, a typically generic DJ hits a stride of great releases (see also the previously mentioned BYOR), and Will Sparks was one of them this year. "Stand By Me" had an edge to it that his usual releases lacked. With a nice progression, a decent melody, it's fantastic hard-hitting techno :music:

CR: 1-2-2-5-19-22-36-17-15-15-15-20-21-24-31-43-x (16 weeks)

One of the most shocking and undeserved BJSC DNQs of recent times. I'm still fuming at those semi 1 voter wotsits who slept on this incredible amapiano pop bop :naomi:

Tyla is a bubbly 19 year old was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa to a family of Mauritian and Indian descent. I've gotten quite into London Grammar this year - I know Lose Your Head well but don't think I've heard the CamelPhat remix! Giving it a listen now, sounding quite nice - I still prefer the original but this version complements it very nicely.
:hi: Kath, both the Godford and CRI entries were banging and the Journey grew on me quite a lot in the end, yay. Not a lot else here I really know although I'm pretty sure I've heard DJ Counselling and Slayyter tracks before too whilst listening through random new dance playlists on Spotify lol.
