Already the top 10 hits are starting to overcome the top 20s, and we actually lose a top 5 hit for the first time. Isac Elliot's TMI came during one of the quieter summer weeks, and though he's one of the most consistently successful artists in my chart, TMI proved not to be one of his biggest hits overall. He has two more tracks to come though, including a #1! Also providing top 10 hits in 2021 were Swedish duo Hearts & Colors, who reached the top tier for the first time after a 2019 top 20 hit; Shakira, who last reached the top 10 back in 2014, and Becky Hill & David Guetta, who teamed up for Becky's first top 10 as a lead artist. The first GUS hit of two from 2021 is at #217, and Joshua Bassett's highest peaking track is at #211. KOOLKID (aka Ryan Lawrie)'s first track to drop is at #215 too, a collaboration with Voost which featured on Love Island 2021. He has two more dance collaborations to come.

Only two songs in this section didn't make my top 10 and both are album tracks. Tom Odell's streets of heaven is an emotional track about school shootings - it's tough listening but one of his strongest tracks to date. Anne-Marie got unlucky not to make my top 10 with Better Not Together when 9 tracks above were by The Kid LAROI, though all of those are still left in so it can't be too unlucky...! As far as top 10s go, another Powfu track drops out with Jaden Smith in tow - his only hit in my chart as things currently stand (Never Say Never predates my chart!). The Jutes and Ava Max tracks charted simultaneously in my chart and drop out together here too - Ava has no more songs left this year but Jutes has plenty...! The first hit for Vita Flare drops out here as well as The Vamps' only single of 2021, while Dotter's second of two is out at #202 and the first Natalie Imbruglia track falls - her first of four to feature.

Now for the first section that's entirely made up of top 10 hits! Non top 10s become rare from this point upwards and those who do still feature in the top 200 have done a pretty great job. Greyson Chance appears for the second time so far with Holy Feeling, the lead single from EP Trophies. He's got three more singles still to come, while Ulrik Munther has four more with album track Stay Awake dropping out at #199. Rita Ora broke the record for most #1s, previously held by The Vamps for four years, with Sigala collaboration You for Me in 2021. That's going to appear (much) higher but her collaboration with Sam Feldt drops out here, not quite making it to #1. Debut top 10 hits for Nick Jonas, Tomode and Surfaces feature here, as well as one of three simultaneous top 10 hits that Jutes scored at the start of the year. Sub Urban and AURORA, two artists that previously had a #2 hit and nothing else to their name, collaborated on a #9 hit to keep their discographies identical. AURORA's #2 hit was Half the World Away, six years back, but Sub Urban's is still to feature in this year's countdown. AJ Mitchell loses his only top 10 of the year and Griff pops up for the first of three appearances.

Sneaking in among the top 10 hits here is Doja Cat album track Payday, one of the few tracks from Planet Her that TikTok hasn't picked up on...! Reiley scored a debut top 10 hit with Let It Ring, a song that genuinely samples the iPhone ringtone (and it's a bop and a half, too). Olivia Rodrigo's first of two top 10s in 2021 falls out at #188 as we lose global smash hit good 4 u, and another chart smash is four spots higher courtesy of Adele, who didn't quite match the #1 peak of Hello in my chart. The Kid LAROI loses his first top 10 of the year (of ten that he achieved), and Powfu loses one more track in the form of KNOWN. collaboration soda stream sky. Kate Nash's Horsie feels like an odd title but the song is rather great, it's her first of two to appear. Isac Elliot and Greyson Chance lose another track each, and The Lunar Year's first single is at #183 - it's the side project of Vamps member Connor Ball.

A couple of recent hits feature in this section - always tricky to figure out where newer stuff places in these lists to perhaps the placing for Imanbek, Lil Xan and KDDK's collaboration is a bit low. Nonetheless, Go Crazy provided Imanbek with his third of three top 10s in 2021, and Lil Xan his first top tier hit in two years. The latest MARINA single was also still charting at the time of the chart cut-off, becoming yet another track of hers to make my top 10 but miss my top 5 (About Love, #6, is her highest peaker still). That's better than can be said for THE ANXIETY's Meet Me At Our Spot, which didn't make my top 10 but had a really lengthy run to make up for it. Griff's Black Hole was also a slow-burner, finally making my top 20 after her BRITs performance. Another Ulrik Munther album track drops out alongside Little Mix's fourth highest track of five this year, while other top 10s to feature come from Skrillex, Justin Bieber & Don Toliver, Eurovision's Eden Alene, and Lancelot (Hedman-Graaf, who has one more solo song to come and two as part of Lance & Linton). Jo O'Meara's comeback single On the Surface rounds the section out, scoring the singer her first top 10 as a soloist, which led to a #2 album in August.

The lead single from forthcoming album Love Sux, Avril Lavigne's Bite Me made the top 5 hit towards the end of the year. It tailed off slightly quickly but I still like it a lot, and Avril's already securing herself an appearance next year with latest single Love It When You Hate Me. MARINA and Kate Nash lose their second of two songs this year, while Olivia Rodrigo's final appearance also happens in this section. drivers license managed three weeks in my top 10 but only a further two in the top 40! Luke Hemmings and HRVY, meanwhile, make their first appearances of two each. Charlotte Lawrence remains a one hit wonder in my chart as things stand but Talk You Down is still a great track - it gave her a top 10 hit at the start of 2021. The man of many collaborations, Travis Barker worked with Powfu (who's made no secret of the fact that blink-182 are among his biggest influences) on mario kart, one of Powfu's more uptempo tracks, while Shawn Mendes teamed up with Colombian singer Camilo for a remix of the latter's KESI. Finally, closing out the section is Sarah Harding's final single release. Wear It Like a Crown was a track she wrote years ago and decided to put out last year with proceeds going to The Christie NHS Foundation, where she received her cancer treatment.

 

'Bite Me' is such a kick ass comeback for Avril. It's definitely something that would have slotted onto one of her earlier albums. Also a bit immature of me but I did giggle at the song title 'Big Dick' :kink: I presume it's about a guy called Dick who's probably tall or something!!

The biggest song of the year in the UK comes in at #160 here, but that's pretty good going when Ed Sheeran's Bad Habits was quite a fleeting hit in my chart. It had a similar run to Natalie Imbruglia's On My Way, which is one of two tracks by her to feature here. Comeback single Build It Better is at #156, leaving one more song still to come for her. Doing one better, there's triple Jutes here, with top 5 hit Couch Surfin (weekly release #15), #6 hit Here We Go Again (weekly release #20, the final one) and #7 hit California (weekly release #9) dropping out - he still has six songs to come though so all is good. Shawn Mendes' highest song of the year only makes #159, with Summer of Love not becoming one of his biggest hits to date. It's good but lacks the replayability of most of his hits for me. I don't know much about Canadian singer Gion, and he still has only one chart hit to his name, but I hurt you, I don't deserve you. made my top 5 at the very start of the year and spent a couple of weeks in my top 10 - not bad for a newcomer! BTS make their only appearance of the year with the bop Permission to Dance (its run cut abruptly short by the Laroi and Anne-Marie album drops) and HRVY just misses the top half with his best performing song of two this year.

Into the top half now and we kickstart with two songs by Norwegian popstar Henrik Heaven (formerly Henrik Høven). Henrik had a hit in 2016 with Move but hadn't charted since then, until he scored simultaneous hits with his own Sad Boy (Get Better!) and the Lucas Estrada and Blinded Hearts collaboration Dont Know Where to Go [sic], both of them reaching the top 10 in the same week. Justin Bieber managed a similar feat when Peaches was one of four top 10 hits he enjoyed that week, though it wasn't quite as big for me as it was for the public. His friend and collaborator The Kid LAROI is two spots above with another album track, the powerful and raw LONELY AND F*CKED UP was the highest charting track from the 3+ edition of F*CK LOVE though one track has since gone on to overtake it in my affections. Anson Seabra sampled the nursery rhyme It's Raining, It's Pouring for his own track of the same name and it works... strangely well, it became his second top 10 hit after 2020's Last Time. More Powfu at #147 with the long way home, the highest track from his early 2021 EP drinking under the streetlights - he has five more songs to come. Lancelot features here with his highest solo track roughly a month before he takes to the Melodifestivalen stage for the first time, and Samuel Daayata shed his one-hit wonder status (achieved with #6 hit Throw Popcorn, alongside Isac Elliot, from 2019), doing one better with dance-pop bop Tides. GAYLE's huge breakthrough hit abcdefu made my top 5 towards the end of the year, and Natalie Imbruglia closes the section with the gorgeous Invisible Things, her best performing song of four.

 

I still like both 'Bad Habits' & 'abcefu' but I wouldn't say I'm huge huge fans of them. It was cool to see something like the latter ACTUALLY :jameela: get to #1 though just from the more rockier pop side of things like 'good 4 u' did last year!

Bebe Rexha scored two top 10 hits in 2021 and both feature in this section. Sacrifice, the second single from album Better Mistakes, was a dance-pop banger and one of her best tracks to date, while Topic collaboration Chain My Heart saw her help the hitmaking DJ into my top 10 for the first time in three years. Niall Horan and Anne-Marie released two collaborations in 2021, with Our Song still to come later on. For now, though, their cover of Fleetwood Mac's Everywhere falls out at #139. Niall has no more songs to come (though bandmate Harry Styles does feature later), while Anne-Marie has four. Alfie Templeman makes his second of two appearances with Shady, a top 10 hit in January 2021, and another Powfu track drops out, this one being the song he wrote for his wife to play alongside a video at their wedding. At the top end of the section is American singer Jordan Suaste, who loses his first of two top 5 hits achieved in 2021 in the form of pop bop Hookup Culture. A series of collaborations feature in the middle of this section, all of them being DJs / producers with a vocalist. Chasing Stars was James Bay and Marshmello's only hit of 2021, and matched Alesso's highest chart peak (also matched again recently with his Katy Perry collaboration). The first of three Sarcastic Sounds songs with him as the lead artist is at #135 with help from Birdy (yes, of Wings / Skinny Love fame) and Mishaal (who had a #1 hit in 2020 with Powfu on Friends). YouNotUs and Michael Schulte teamed up for a top 5 hit in early summer, and at #133 is one of a small number of BJSC songs to feature this year - Xenomania's team-up with singer Paige Cavell resulted in a huge bop with delightfully ridiculous lyrics.

Melodifestivalen saw three songs in my EOY top 100 of 2020, but manages just one in the top 120 this year as Kadiatou's One Touch falls out as the second highest song from last year's contest - impressive though for a song that didn't make it out of the heat! Josh A scored two top 5 hits in the same week earlier in the year, with ANXIOUS being the higher of the two at the time though it's the lower of the two here. Collaborator guccihighwaters has two more top 10s still to come. Johnny Orlando matched his highest peak with DVBBS collaboration I Don't - the DJ duo still have a #1 hit to feature later on. Lil Nas X also scored his highest peak with first top 10 hit MONTERO, while Luke Hemmings' debut solo hit remains his best performing. KOOLKID / Ryan Lawrie's highest position this year came from The Him collaboration Better Days, a top 10 on debut before repeaking weeks later after I saw him live supporting Nathan Gurd. Ruel loses his first song this year - distance was the third and final single from 2020 EP Bright Lights, Red Eyes - as does Kylie Minogue, who scores the biggest non-top 10 hit of the year with Dance Floor Darling. Another Jutes track drops in the form of catchy Give U a Call, and the lowest of my own BJSC entries falls out here - Claire Rosinkranz's Frankenstein was a top 5 hit for me (and her only chart hit to date) but didn't make the BJSC final sadly. (only nine of my own BJSC entries feature this year, as my first 2021 entry, PSYCHO by DREAMDNVR and Boy In Space, was a 2020 hit)

2021 saw Nathan Dawe score his first top 10 hit in my chart with help from Anne-Marie on the fun Way Too Long, accompanied by an infectious guest verse from MoStack who also made the top tier for the first time. It was also a remarkable year for Elton John, who finished the year with two top 10 hits after starting it without any! Cold Heart was a slow-burner for me but spent two weeks top 10 on its third top 40 stint. Elton's other top 10 hit is still to come! Troye Sivan achieved three top 10s in 2021, and Angel Baby is the first to drop here at #119. Torine and Josh A make their highest appearances of two with the fun Cliché and my BJFest anthem DOUBT ME respectively, while Fleurie was another of my main BJSC entries - Breathe's rework for the Legends of Runeterra game made for a change in pace from my usual entries and gave the singer her second top 10, after Hurts Like Hell also made #7 in 2016. Jordan Suaste's If the World Ended Tonight was his first hit, and features (VERY briefly) in the third To All the Boys film. I only discovered who Jutes was through being Miles Wesley's friend, and their second collaboration of two in 2021 is here at #115 as the fourth single from Miles' debut project. The highest Ulrik Munther non-single is at #117 with the cute yet strangely eerie Apartment Girl coming out on top (though he has two singles to come), and Maisie Peters closes the section with her first of two tracks to appear - Psycho was her first hit and it went straight into the top 10 when I first heard it!

A revolving door of TikTok viral smashes gave Doja Cat a series of hits in 2021, though You Right got sadly sidelined until long after its single push had been and gone. It was a hit in my chart from the start though, and gave The Weeknd his highest peaking track to date! The lead single from Planet Her is in this section too, with Kiss Me More being a top 5 hit earlier in the year. Doja has one more song to come, though it's as a featured artist instead of as a lead. Another Jutes track drops, leaving him with three in the top 100 - Broke Boy is one of his catchiest tracks though and I love the production! Camila Cabello's infectious Don't Go Yet was a top 10 hit over the summer - it deserved better officially than what it got! Boy In Space released five singles over 2021, with Let You Go being (very easily) the lowest of the set, while Greyson Chance loses another track, leaving one in the top 100. One of my BJSC entries is at #103 - Bahari's Savage, with a guest rap from BIA, was a track I discovered on Ginny & Georgia at just the right time when I was struggling to find an entry! It was the biggest hit for both artists. Ashnikko's Deal With It was also her biggest hit, with a very well used Kelis sample that deserved to amount to a far bigger hit than it was. Ed Sheeran's biggest hit of the year is at #102, and Latto closes the section with breakthrough hit Big Energy - I was hoping that would blow up into a far bigger hit than it actually was! :( The Mariah Carey sample was genius and made for such an infectious track, reminiscent of Doja's Say So.

The really big hits are arriving as we soar into the top 100 now! The Kid LAROI's NOT SOBER looks like a fleeting hit, but of course with a dominating presence across the whole year, NOT SOBER's playcount is far bigger than its chart run would suggest. It was the highest peaking hit for collaborators Polo G and Stunna Gambino, though only the eighth highest Laroi song in the chart that week! Also featuring with new personal bests in this section are Galantis, who teamed up with David Guetta and Little Mix for the huge hit Heartbreak Anthem, their first top 10 in my chart! It's one of three Little Mix songs in my top 100, and the second is also in this section - Confetti, with a new verse from Saweetie, is at #94.

 

Quite impressively, ROLE MODEL has three songs in the top 300 and all of them have made the top 100 - two of them fall out here. blind was a top 5 hit at the start of the year, while forever&more followed in the summer. Nathan Gurd also made his chart debut in 2021 with Ryan Lawrie-penned Talk That Talk, initially a top 15 hit but it rebounded to the top 5 after I saw him live, much like Denis Coleman's pillowTHOUGHTS which became the young popstar's first top 10 hit after I saw him supporting HRVY for two nights in a row.

 

Elsewhere, Justin Bieber scored a top 10 album track with the sublime Deserve You - it's the first of six Bieber songs in my top 100! Elton John enlisted Charlie Puth for the second single from The Lockdown Sessions - After All was a surprisingly lovely track that made it as high as #2 in my chart, blocked only by Alan Walker's Paradise (still to come). The lowest placed #1 drops out in this section - Conan Gray scored four top 2 hits in 2021, though one of the two #1s he managed is actually comfortably the lowest of the bunch. Astronomy got a bit lucky to have a clearer path to #1 than #2 hits Overdrive and People Watching, but it's still a lovely track, even if a bit "Heather 2.0".

2021 was Miles Wesley's biggest year so far in my chart with four top 10s to his name, tripling his total from before the year began. California Reaper was the most downbeat and raw of the selection and finishes as his third highest track this year. ROLE MODEL's highest track is also the slowest of the three as the dramatic death wish finishes as his top performer (though all 3 of his songs appear within 10 songs of each other, that's some consistency!). Breakthrough stars feature throughout this section too, with Jutes' first top 3 hit being his third highest track of the year. Painkiller was 11th weekly release out of 20 and is one of his poppier tracks, with an infectious chorus that I just couldn't resist.

 

Of course, familiar names had a big year too. Kylie Minogue enlisted Years & Years for the first single from DISCO's Guest List Edition and it gave them both a top 3 hit, while Paloma Faith scored a post-album smash with the anthem that is Monster, a track that deserved SO much more love! Tom Odell features for the first of three times in my top 100 with the gorgeous lose you again, while Alexander Stewart made a comeback with his biggest hit since 2019's No Thanks in the form of Let Me Hate You, a top 5 hit in early summer.

 

Trevor Daniel scored a second #1 hit in 2021 with help from Julia Michaels on Fingers Crossed. He's got one of the most interesting chart histories in the past 10 years of my chart - two #1 singles (both collaborations with female artists, the first being Past Life with Selena Gomez), and a #1 album, but no other top 10 hits (and parent EP for Fingers Crossed only got to #10 on the album chart). Nevertheless, it was #1 on quite a busy week - shame I associate it as being a week that I was ill with no appetite :lol: guccihighwaters was another breakout star of 2021, and his first hit came with help from the dream team of Powfu and Sarcastic Sounds - hold somebody remains guccihighwaters' biggest hit, and at the time, it was Sarcastic Sounds' highest peaker too. Finally, we close the section with Bella Poarch's viral smash Build a Bitch, though it's not her highest appearance here!

 

'Big Energy' is up to #42 in the US! But yeah it's hard to see it doing anything in the UK at this point :(

 

'Cold Heart', 'Don't Go Yet' and 'Monster' are my other faves in those sections, I sure wasn't expecting Paloma to have one of her best songs to date last year but she did that :cheeseblock:

'Cold Heart' took a few listens to click but it's sounded fab once it clicked more and I don't think I'm bored of it yet. 'Shiver' - one of Ed's best now I'd say :wub: 'Heartbreak Anthem' as well is pretty good too. I wonder if the Y&Y collab will feature next year? :thinking:

2021 was a big year for Griff all round, winning the BRITs Rising Star award and performing top 20 hit Black Hole at the ceremony in one of the show's most memorable performances. It was the follow-up single One Foot in Front of the Other that really connected with me, though. Griff's vocals sound vulnerable yet confident in the uplifting, encouraging track, and it became her highest charting hit to date. Jonah Kagen had a big year in my chart as well, charting with Moon in the top 20 for the first time before achieving two top 10 hits. Both of them feature here - Wish You Did and Catching a Dream have both had good longevity, with the latter rebounding to a new peak of #5 in the final chart of 2021! Definitely one to watch for 2022.

 

Another chart debut this year came from guccihighwaters, who's at #72 with his highest track. rock bottom was a slow-burner, taking seven weeks to reach the top 10, though it's 10 spots higher than his #2 hit that first charted in the same week! Alec Benjamin helped YouTuber Dream to his first #1, with Change My Clothes being the first song to dethrone The Kid LAROI's monster hit STAY from #1. It wasn't a particularly long runner but the song is cute! Alec has two more songs to come. Majestic remixed Boney M.'s classic hit Rasputin last year and both acts achieved their first and (so far) only top 10 hit with it - one of the most joyous tracks of the year undoubtedly!

 

Established names make up the rest of the section - Harry Styles' Treat People With Kindness returned to my top 10 at the start of the year following its video release and (brief) single push, though its #5 peak came from the album release. The highest track from Greyson Chance finishes at #78 - Nobody was another of my BJSC entries this year and spent 3 weeks in my top 10! The first of three Rita Ora songs is at #75, with the mammoth team of David Guetta, Imanbek and Gunna all tagging along. It's Guetta's highest hit and Gunna's only one, but Imanbek has one more alongside Rita to come. Rita's friend Charli XCX scored two #3 hits over 2021, and Good Ones is the first of them to drop.

Scoring his highest charting hit in three years, Benjamin Ingrosso's return to English language music brought him back to my chart with the infectious Smile (his Swedish-language albums were quite dull on the whole unfortunately). Ella Henderson also achieved her biggest hit in a while, with Let's Go Home Together's #4 peak being her highest position since 2014's Glow, which made #3, and collaborator Tom Grennan's biggest hit so far. Perhaps one of the biggest comebacks of 2021 came from Robin Packalen, who features three times in my EOY. His two chart-toppers are still to come, but EP track Better Than That, the track that became his first chart hit since Frontside Ollie belatedly charted in 2014, is here at #68.

 

There's double Eurovision impact in this section as my favourite two entries of 2021 are just two spots apart. Senhit enlisted Flo Rida for one of the year's most iconic moments, let alone one of the best Eurovision moments I've seen. Seeing a global star on the stage with... Senhit from San Marino was certainly unexpected, but it made for the most fun performance of the night without a doubt! Norway's TIX just pips it to being my favourite entry of the year, though. Fallen Angel is divisive among Eurovision fans, probably due to it beating KEiiNO in the national selection, but I loved it from first play and it made my top 10 after the semi final performance. Former Eurovision contestant and Melodifestivalen winner Frans features here with his cover of My Favourite Waste of Time, a song I'd never heard before but I love his chilled dance-pop version, it became his biggest hit in over two years! Fellow Melodifestivalen alumni Ulrik Munther is at #63 with Come Find Me, the sixth and final single from recent album Put Your Self Out There. He has just one more song to come this year.

 

A prolific collaborator, Powfu hopped on Icelandic singer Ouse's single Too Many Problems earlier in the year. It became Ouse's first top 5 hit, and he's yet to score a follow-up but it's Powfu's third highest song. Kylie Minogue's biggest hit of 2021 was the third single from DISCO, Real Groove. Aided by backing vocals from Dua Lipa on the Studio 2054 remix, Real Groove became a #3 hit in the first chart of the year. I like the album version a lot but the remix is my preference! Italian popstar Matteo Markus Bok closes out the section with Muero Por Ti, the only non-English language #1 in my chart in 2021. The track became his seventh chart-topper, and first in over a year, since 2020's Háblale Claro.
