Lasting eight minutes on the 'Introspective' album, Left To My Own Devices was remixed and reduced to about four and a half minutes for the single release, giving the Pet Shop Boys their sixth top 5 hit.

34. Erasure - Love To Hate You 226pts

Writers - Vince Clarke, Andy Bell

Top points - Leonardo 24, Shoat 23, Jester 20, Dj Cheeky Magpie 20, Mango 20

So Erasure will have just one song in the final as Love To Hate You drops out. It was their seventh top 5 single and wins a tie-break over Left To My Own Devices by 17 votes to 16.

I'm not a Nickelback fan but 'How You Remind Me' is an exception!

Also lost 'I'm A Slave 4 U' and 'Antidote' on the banger side of things

Left to My Own Devices and Love to Hate You are great songs

really liked I Need Your Love when originally released, now I find it less good and a bit annoying

Nickleback are really the Westlife of rock music... or maybe Westlife are the Nickelback of pop music :o

My opinions on Nickelback are pretty much identical to Jade's, they deserve their reputation as an awful band overall but 'How You Remind Me' is a great song (and I like 'Rockstar' as well lol).

I really loved 'I Need Your Love' when it came out but it's definitely not been the most gracefully aged Calvin single, didn't even vote for it here iirc oops. Don't think I am familiar with the other two songs here (I feel bad that there were several Erasure singles in this poll and I've not known any of them, I'm sure I'd probably be a fan of at least one of them based on the songs I do know by them oops)

I must like the 'awful' band that is Nickelback. I have their Greatest Hits album and I'm happy to say I'm a fan of Nickelback.

Even if How You Remind Me isn't as shit as other Nickelback songs (it is certainly waaay better than Rockstar) it's still sung by Chad Kroeger and nothing he puts his voice to could ever be considered more than 3/10.

I think I've only lost three songs so far which are all older ones (Bob, S&G, PSB) which is good going.

'Left To My Own Devices' and 'Love To Hate You' are both 10/10 pop songs, absolutely love both of them. Can't believe they've gone out this early :(

31. Mariah Carey - Fantasy 240pts

Writers - Mariah Carey, Dave Hall, Adrian Belew, Chris Frantz, Steven Stanley, Tina Weymouth

Top points - Jade 23, AaronTM 23, vibe 23, Leonardo 23

Mariah Carey's fifth top 5 single. In her own country, it was only the second single by anyone to be a new entry at number 1. The four members of the Tom Tom Club are down as co-writers as the song samples "Genius Of Love" from 1981.
