Probably because they need the story to run so the characters have to be completely ineffective in their attempts to help. The Six just tell her to grow a pair, Alfie has bigger problems, Elaine just tells her to stop drinking and then holds a naff pub event, Lauren wants to take her kids away and Johnny’s previous incarnations were so woefully meek I can’t imagine him doing anything useful either.

She also never has scenes with too good advice giver Yolande.

In fact, the only thing she has going for her is that her useless husband isn’t around to make it all about him and ten times worse.

Oh thats interesting, if they are thinking of casting Paulines sister it will mean they are looking to build up the Fowler family again which isnt a bad thing as they are thin on the ground.
I am unsure if Linda would cope with the work pressure of a show like EastEnders.
A bit disappointed EastEnders won nothing at the tv choice awards with Emmerdale winning best soap and best male actor. Maureen Lipman best actress in Corrie with Jeff Hordley winning best actor.

Isn’t a part on EE something that Linda Robson harps on about all the time as if she deserves it? No thanks.

This Johnny was automatically better than the last one by virtue of him not being the same actor but I think this one might actually work out in his own merit.

Johnny saying "there's life outside of Walford" and how he doesn't "understand how everyone lets Linda drink so much" were very real lines and shows how much of a grounded character he is and not off in la la land which is refreshing.
Did anyone notice the newspaper article regarding George's dad's trial referring to the "Jasmine Allen Estate" the same estate featured in The Bill?
Agreeing with Jade, stunning episode. Gina and Anna's scenes in the barrel store had me quite emotional and that ending!

Me too, it was a refreshingly complex angle tackled well. Colin Salmon's performance broke my heart as well and Eddie is a genuinely menacing character, awful man!

Really good episodes this week. The Vic is full of proper drama again, Colin Salmon bringing everything in the way that Danny Dyer never could.

Finally we're going somewhere with the six!

I'm surprisingly enjoying new Johnny, my only gripe is the consistency because he is a completely different character to the one we knew before but still, his scenes with Ben are quite amusing as well, that's a fun dynamic potentially, it's a shame that's got an expiration date though.

I do feel a bit for Gloria, she did the wrong thing but for what she thought were the right reasons, her heart was in the right place I think. Colin is playing this part very well, he is like a big baby throwing a tantrum sometimes but that only adds to his character and speaks to the deprived childhood he had so even that makes sense.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I cannot stand Elaine she is completely useless, it pisses me off how little she cares for Linda, it just doesn't make sense when you compare it to what we know of the character before this version came in and that's not even considering the ridiculous "acting". Cindy should shoot her or something idk

Excellent episodes all week, the building of storylines is just excellent right now as there are multiple storylines ticking along and the six storyline is blending in nicely.

It's so good been excited for each episode for a good few months now as God knows us fans that have stuck with the show had a long period of hoping the show would improve and be gripping again.

I’m not too worried about Johnny being very different. I think if you cut out the middle Johnny it’s pretty much character progression. That second Johnny was a masterclass of what not to do with a character. He was there to make up the Carter numbers and that was it.

Elaine I don’t mind as much. I think her lack of care for Linda is just a character flaw-she literally doesn’t know what to do because she’s generally an ineffective mother who is usually too busy thinking of herself. The old Elaine was like that too. Yes, she stuck up for her daughter but this Elaine has been seen to do that too. But in all instances both Elaine’s have mostly been about themselves and putting on a front so I do see consistency. I also think her acting is ok (except for the crying at the window scene, that really was bad.)

Im not worried about Johnny either, as a character he was never fully developed so its very easy for the writers to take him in a whole new direcction.
Tracking back I don't think Johnny has ever had a storyline beyond his coming out one? I don't even remember him being shot by Ted Murray . It's safe to say they can do whatever with him really as it'll be an improvement on before.
Turning him into a violent Ben Mitchell wannabe is not it though and sows not gel with what we knew about him

Great set of episodes across the last week. Colin Salmon really works in this role and that storyline was very interesting but well acted. I liked seeing another side to Gina as well and I think both Gina and Anna actresses had their best performances so far last week.

Also enjoying the six story (well the five as Sharon isn’t there  ).
