They've written themselves into a corner, but in a way it doesn't matter because it's a corner they'll only have to deal with in a few years time if the showrunners and Danny Dyer both want him back.

The Harold Bishop route would be ridiculous because a person washing up on the coast with his description would immediately be flagged up and the family contacted. Even if he washed up in France (if that would even be possible) in a coma or something, in the internet age of instant global communication it wouldn't take too long for authorities to work it out.

Him having intentionally faked his death and started a false life would be easier to write in if it weren't for the fact that wouldn't make any sense at all for the character of Mick.

Anyway, like I said, a hypothetical future problem. Great acting from Kellie Bright and Linda Henry tonight. Actually having her crime catch up with her and a prison sentence looming over her for once is a decent exit for Janine, they've kinda cocked this return up for her on the whole tbh after how great the promise of having her back first sounded.

I really do hope they use this as an opportunity to bring back Lee and Johnny. Nancy can stay away though :kink:

Lee is the one I would be most welcome to see back. It would make the most sense as well, the other two are supposed to be living abroad right?

I mean, this is what I really would have liked in terms of Mick’s exit:

It’s only fitting that Janine end up in prison at some point, she’s dodged that bullet enough times and when she does inevitably return, there’s the storyline right there.

But I can’t believe how mucked up her whole return has been. She has been used for the last year to prop the Carters up as the show’s main protagonists, like many short term villains before her. They could have essentially had a brand new character act out the part she’s played given how much Janine they’ve put into the scenes, she spent months until the last couple of weeks being used generically in the background. I hate that we still know barely anything about her time away, I hate that she lost her fortune with no explanation and I hate that they made her a horrible mother to Scarlett-that wasn’t where she was headed back in 2014.

I dunno what will happen with Linda or Shirley but I am glad Mick has gone and really hope he doesn’t come back. His character, whilst revitalising the show when he arrived, has been holding the show back for many years now.

Amazing acting by Charlie Brooks, she will be missed.

Janine is one of, if not my favourite eastenders characters so it is sad to see her go. However, I agree they didn’t utilise her well at all, however I’m so glad the past few episodes we saw the Janine we absolutely love!

I hate that she got arrested as I wanted her to get away but it makes sense she finally got arrested for something. Like someone else said she can pop up again in a few years!

Also be interesting what will happen to her baby. I’m shocked her baby survived ALLLLL of that.

Superb emotional acting from Kellie Bright and Linda Henry

Kellie is so good, one of the best if not the best actress in soapland.

I'd say Chris Clenshaw has done a great job tying up the mess that Jon Sen and Kate Oates created by launching her into the Carters' fold in the first place. Had Chris brought her back himself I can't help but think she would've gone on a different path but he had to make do with what they had started and she was definitely back to form over the past few weeks leading up to her exit.

My main issues were Janine having abandoned her child with little explanation (she was never going to be a perfect mother but having her let Scarlett end up in foster care off-screen after all the resentment she felt over her own father leaving her was stupid). Her having lost all her money, again with no good explanation, seemingly only to give her some motivation to be scheming around and yes her major plot being the relationship with Mick felt like a limp one. I

I imagine we will have Shirley/Linda etc... attending her trial off-screen and get some reference to her sentencing and the birth of the baby via that.

The trial will be off screen which will feel disappointing but Mick and Janine's exits are the best exits for a long time.

I'm enjoying more of a focus on Sonia since Dot's funeral, hopefully this continues into 2023.

I wasn't crazy about today's episode in general but looking forward to the New Year one on the horizon

Ummm how are you all daying Janine getting ARRESTED MAKES ANY TYPE OF SENSE?!?!?!

Let's look at the FACTS, shall we? X

- Linda was found drunk behind the wheel of her own car

- Evidence for Janine driving is ... a photograph of a neighbour with Janine in the background using a bin. Lol. Okay.

- Police came with BLARING SIRENS based on the word of her brother on Christmas. For obstruction of jusrice and an ACCUSATION WITH NO PROOF. NONE. ZILCH. ZIP. They would come and ask her to have a word at the station. No evidence? Daughter snd brother saying she did. No evidenxe. Their word, her word. Okay. Christmas family argument. The end. Ricky might get arrested aftwr for wasting popo time though...

- Janine has evidence of NEARLY BEING MURDERED BY HER MOTHER IN LAW. WHY DID JANINE, AS CLEVER AS SHE IS, NEVER SAY, PHONE THE POLICE WITH NO EVIDENXE ABOUT ME AND I'LL SHOW THEN MY BRUISED NECK, HAVE THEM TAKE YOUR DNA FEOM IR, AND GET YOU IN COURT ON ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES AND LINDA ON ATTEMPTED MURDER ACCESSORY CHARGES?! FUUCK ME!!!

- Janine now owns the pub. This is a fact. Plus Mick's money. This is a fact.

DIRE ending that makes NO SENSE AT ALL.

I think all anyone’s saying is that Janine has escaped prison for far worse in the past and it wouldn’t make sense for her to get off Scott free again. The whole storyline has been very unrealistic from the get go and in reality Janine would probably serve barely any time if she served any at all. But at least when she does come back people won’t moan about how unrealistic it is that she keeps getting away with everything.

The Sam/Keanu twist was a good one I didn’t see coming. I thought them being on such speaking terms was a continuity error given they hadn’t met before but then it all made sense.

One viewer posted a screengrab of Janine's car journey from start to finish which read 1 hour and 50 minutes

Janine travelled from London to the Dover Cliffs where it took a wrong turn.

On tweeter "Janine to win F1 2023" and "Janine should be x5 FI champion by now"

For perverting the course of justice she could get anywhere from community service to 7 years inside.

I think it would have been a decent idea to bring her back with a husband, battling with the step-children for his affections as Pat did.

Zero evidence!! There is ZERO EVIDENCE!

Janine always escapes prison. ALWAYS. To change this because she took kn saint Linda is a JOKE ans destroys EE. Time for the axe! Well, thst was when they killed Mel with a scene from out of Birdbox tbh.

Another woman stopped in her car to help Linda after the accident and spoke to Janine, who could place her at the scene and witnessed her running away afterwards.

They won't go into that much detail though because the whole thing will occur off-screen, we will get a reference about the sentencing from Shirley or Linda to wrap it up.

Well when you add all of it together they could make a case against her. Not the most compelling irrefutable case I grant you but she's escaped prison at the eleventh hour more than once before so getting sent down on slightly flimsy evidence for something she did do is still kinda poetic justice. As far as soap deviations from reality go it doesn't bother me as much as some.

At the moment she has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. Whilst they don't have hard solid evidence they do have both Linda and Ricky who have contacted the police about Linda's crash to say she was driving. Two accounts of that is probably enough for them to raise enough of a concern.

At the end of it all, this is a soap and the fabric of reality isn't always going to be completely correct. They'll do what they can to bring the drama and get viewers and it worked as a lot of people have been talking about the episodes online. If you want the grit of an investigation then you're looking for the wrong show in EE.

Soo, he said, she said, Cheistmas Day family argument. They'd have questions, no need to arrest. Janine would swat it away like a fly.
