Boo nobody else voting for Pepsi & Shirlie

Its the most buzzjack-esque song abd band of the 80s 😍

'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' and 'Mickey', what a top 2 x (both slight guilty pleasures).

 There was something in the water evidently in 1982 if you think these songs and Goombay Dance were no1 for a month, all a bit early 80s randomness before the more professional pop songs started dominating a few years later!

1983 certainly felt like the year “the grown ups” took back control if that makes sense

I was over 30 and still thought When You Come back To Me is Jason Donovan's best single. Still do, and I've seen Jason in drag and become a part of a Priscilla musical by sitting in a theatre box (it was cheap! No wonder, they took the piss out of you!). T'other track is OK.

Batdance is fun but mad, appropriately enough given The Joker, Liquid Gold is good, IOU OK, One Day I'll Fly Away is lovely, and shame! shame! shame! on everyone for not voting for a gem of a Madness record. Just me loving it (and Bre liking it)!

Kayleigh is nice, Stars On 45 is cheese, but hey it pushed The Beatles so forgiven, Clothes Off is good, Chi Mai is lovely (pleasantly surprised it got some points!), Mickey is fun, Nana Mouskouri is OK (but had her 60's gem White Rose Of Athens been a number 2 I'd have voted for it!).

Sam Cooke, 60's classic, and if only A Change Is Gonna Come and You Send Me had also peaked at 2! Heartache is OK, Simply Red isn't a patch on the Harold Melvin/Teddy Pendergrass original, though that applies to every single Harold Melvin cover. Sorry Not Sorry.

So we're at the top 100 now. Tracks on equal scores will be separated first by the amount of voters then the highest individual points awarded to that track.

Acts with multiple entries left

Kylie Minogue 4

Madonna 4

David Bowie 3

Duran Duran 3

Phil Collins 3

Paul McCartney 2

Prince 2

Adam & The Ants 2

Dire Straits 2

Erasure 2

Human League 2

Kim Wilde 2

Michael Jackson 2

Stevie Wonder 2

So it was Musical Youth who have thus far denied there to be a #1 beginning with every letter of the alphabet - along with Dean Martin and Dreamweavers who held of Lou Busch - Zambesi in 1956. I've quite enjoyed Zoom (the song, that is) since its use in Car Share, but didn't have room for it.

The remaining contingent from 1980 looks strong!

I knew Zoom wouldn’t get that many votes but it just puts a huge smile on my face! I nearly voted for Words as well.

Edited by JulianT

Words and Zoom are both good songs. The single version of Welcome To The Pleasuredome is not as good as the 14 minute album version but I'm still disappointed that I was the only person to vote for it.

so it's Kylie vs Madonna in terms of number of entries!

More thought of as a 70s band they proved they could still hit it big in the 80s
