May 19, 20223 yr Author NO 98- 27 POINTS Private Investigations Dire Straits (Voter: King Rollo) (#2 for 1 week in September 1982 behind “Eye Of The Tiger” by Survivor) Largely forgotten about now, this isn’t the highest placed track to attract just one voter….. P9K27HvhDxA
May 19, 20223 yr 'Torch' is good, not as good as 'Say Hello Wave Goodbye' though imo! 'No Doubt About It' is a good track too. Edited May 19, 20223 yr by The Sake
May 19, 20223 yr Two of my big scorers out today. Private Investigations is up there with O Superman as the number 2 single with the most unconventional song structure.
May 20, 20223 yr Author NO 97- 28 POINTS London Nights London Boys (Voter: Fiesta- 21 pts, Gezza- 7 pts) (#2 for 1 week in July 1989 behind “You’ll Never Stop Me Loving You” by Sonia) Camp pop a la 89 and clearly Fiesta and I can’t resist. Both died tragically in a car accident in 1996. FAsV2ilnFnU
May 20, 20223 yr Author NO 96- 28 POINTS One Step Further Bardo (Voter: Gooddelta- 6 pts, AH Gold- 22 pts) (#2 for 1 week in May 1982 behind “Ebony & Ivory” by Paul McCartney & Stevie Wonder) After winning Eurovision with Bucks Fizz in 1981 this was 82’s UK entrant. It finished 7th and the duo never graced the top 75 again. ioNs7zrG9YY
May 20, 20223 yr Author NO 95- 28 POINTS Happy Birthday Stevie Wonder (Voter: Mack- 25 pts, Popchartfreak- 3 pts) (#2 for 1 week in August 1981 behind “Green Door” by Shakin Stevens) Wonder’s became one of the leading figures in the campaign to have Martin Luther King’s Birthday become a public holiday and wrote this song to highlight the plight. He got his way with the first national Martin Luther King day held in 1986. DfqWLmHwn7U
May 20, 20223 yr Discovered 'London Nights' on an 80s TOTP hits episode a couple of years ago I think and enjoyed it quite a bit - sadly didn't have enough room. For the past few weeks I needed escapism so started the project of listening to every Eurovision finalist since the inception of the contest (slowed down when I had to go back to work, but up to 1989 so far) and thought the Bardo song was decent, although Nicole's chart topper that won the contest that year was definitely the crème de la crème  'Happy Birthday' of course a classic but I'm pleased that the Altered Images one has finished higher!
May 20, 20223 yr For the past few weeks I needed escapism so started the project of listening to every Eurovision finalist since the inception of the contest (slowed down when I had to go back to work, but up to 1989 so far) That sounds amazing but quite the project! I’m surprised you can even track down all the entries.
May 20, 20223 yr That sounds amazing but quite the project! I’m surprised you can even track down all the entries. 1956 and 1964 are the only years of the contest where the footage is lost but the audio from the original radio broadcasts is still available on YouTube (and some are on Spotify anyway) - there's loads missing on streaming so I have to keep flipping between that and YouTube. It's been really interesting to read each Wikipedia page at the same time and find out random trivia and drama too  There are so many U.K. entries missing on Spotify but Bardo is an exception!
May 21, 20223 yr the batch that just missed the 100 are all decent nice tracks, then we get 3 classics that just scraped in, adore Hot Chocolate, Soft Cell and that Dire straits track is their best record. London Boys and Bardo are OK, and Happy Birthday is never not selling week after week on downloads so one might speculate that it's way too low on this list vs public opinion. The trend seems to be early 80's doing less well than late 80's inside the 100 so far.....
May 21, 20223 yr Author NO 94- 28 POINTS Church Of The Poison Mind Culture Club (Voter: Chartjack2- 5 pts, Popchartfreak- 12 pts, Jester- 11 pts) (#2 for 2 weeks behind “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie) I can’t imagine Boy George was too offended to be held off by one of his heroes. Our preferred Culture Club No 2 hit it seems as they leave the rate. q3XDTvN93Cg
May 21, 20223 yr Author NO 93- 29 POINTS Coming Up Paul McCartney (Voter: Fiesta) (#2 for 1 week in May 1980 behind “Geno” by Dexy’s Midnight Runners) McCartney’s second track to leave the rate leaving just one left. fpJ3AajaMaQ
May 21, 20223 yr Author NO 92- 29 POINTS Da Da Da Trio (Voter: Chartjack2) (#2 for 1 week in July 1982 behind “Fame” By Irene Cara) The highest placed track with only one voter is this little oddity! Glorious one hit wonder territory. VoZNbVGYl8o
May 21, 20223 yr NO 99- 26 POINTS No Doubt About It Hot Chocolate (Voter: King Rollo- 17 points, Popchartfreak- 9 points) (#2 for 3 weeks in May/June 1980 behind “What’s Another Year” by Johnny Logan and “Theme From MASH”- MASH) More thought of as a 70s band they proved they could still hit it big in the 80s WFdZXoc_-IU Did Hot Chocolate not get a top 10 hit every year right up to 1986?
May 21, 20223 yr Really loved that Da Da Da Trio! Also adore Culture Club, Dire Straits and as Pop says Stevie Wonder should be higher considering what a classic it is nowadays!
