So usually I post something on Final Day speculating on where we're going next year but the unique circumstances of the 2022 contenders mean there's enough here for a full topic. So, starting with the simpler ones, where will we go if each of the big favourites wins?

Ukraine

So, bottom line is that I don't think the EBU will permit a contest to be hosted in Kyiv or Lviv in 2023 for security reasons, even though I'm sure the Ukrainians will want the angle of "May 2023 in peacetime Kyiv".

The flipside of this is probably that a Ukraine win gives them the opportunity to do a dry run of the "Australia scenario" so we'll see if they give first preference to the runners up or if they have a completely open bidding process.

Or would they allow the Ukrainian broadcaster to host 2023 but have, say, Krakow in Poland as the host city? It's a headache that I suspect the EBU wishes they aren't going to need to sort out

Italy

The Italians supposedly don't want to host the contest again but if that speculation is wrong then Milan and Bologna have already had their venues assessed so one assumes we'd just go down the road.

Spain

The Spanish have already been firing the starting pistol on 2023 host cities with publicly expressed bids already from Valencia, Madrid, Barcelona and Las Palmas De Gran Canaria all declaring that they want to host.

Sweden

Stockhom would be a safe bet in either the Globen or Tele2 Stadium if they wanted a switch up in the venue but Malmo wouldn't be an impossibility.

UK

London would probably bid for it but my gut tells me they'll want to have it outside of the capital. I'd think Manchester and Glasgow would be the biggest contenders but Sheffield, Leeds, Newcastle and Liverpool would all likely put up a good fight for it.

So, where do you think next year's host city will be?

I would love nothing more than 2023 being hosted in Kyiv, but even if the war ended tomorrow, I don't see how it could happen. A joint hosting between Poland & Ukraine I feel the best compromise, though I'm unsure if we've heard anything from the Polish broadcaster if they'd be interested in that? The certainly hosted the Junior well so I don't think the EBU would be against them having it.

I don't know if Ukraine could afford it even if the EBU allowed it, would be interesting to see if they went down the runner up or 'country of Ukraine's choosing' route, I expect it would be one of the two rather than a completely open bidding process.

Agreed that Manchester and Glasgow would be the most likely contenders for the UK. I'd probably prefer Manchester of the two, but if Sam brings it home (or comes 2nd to Ukraine), I'll be rooting for Sheffield as the closest city to my hometown :heehee:

Spain is an interesting one because if they go the Dutch and Italian route of avoiding a city that already has loads of tourism and using it as a chance to promote somewhere else, it would probably be Barcelona that they'd steer away from rather than the capital? (And I doubt Barcelona would have a shot really given it's in Catalonia). God help us if they chose to put it in Gran Canaria!

Eurovision in Gran Canaria would be complete and utter gay chaos. Spain must win!

Chanel grew up in Catalonia I think so I don’t think Barcelona is an impossibility.

Valencia would be a really cool host city - I'd like to see that.

Poland/Ukraine joint contest in Warsaw would be ideal in that circumstance. Poland will probably finish quite well which would add some legitimacy to that.

Something for the EBU to ponder in a situation like this - which flag do you put in the heart???

Have we had Gothenburg before? Would want to see the next host city be there! :D
They had it in 1985, but last time Sweden were hosting I'm sure people were saying Gothenburg don't have a venue suitable for the modern day requirements  Would love to see Sweden continue rotating it around their main cities though!
Gran Canaria would be a nightmare. It's already overwhelmed by tourists of a certain homosexual variety, hosting Eurovision there will be an absolutely insane decision.
I doubt it will be the UK because everyone would need travel visas now, no?

I think you only need a passport. Travelling to the UK is still visafree from the EU. You just van't use your national IDcard anymore

The Hydro is a fab arena but it’s not the biggest venue. Tickets would be scarce for Hydro. But the facilities are modern and the complex could absolutely have plentiful space for all the traveling circus
May is Gay Pride in GC, so it would have to be late May to avoid devastating Maspalomas tourism, a big money earner and draw. Las Palmas isnt a huge tourist area so it could benefit from a clear run outside Pride. More importantly I could have my usual holiday at Playa Del Ingles there and try and get tickets for the final or semis, and I think everyone across Europe can agree that's the most important thing. Failing that, I think it should be London for the same reason.... :teresa:
To be honest I would let one of the big 5 countries host it, Sam Ryder came second out of the big 5 countries ideally it should go to UK, if Ukraine won't be able to host it.
Id agree, i think the fact the Uk came 2nd they should have the first refusal, i cant really see it been anyone outside the big 5 hosting.
