Hold On To Now will be a case of lather rinse repeat. Padam Padam has given her career this late refresh and it'll be so stupid to waste it on playing safe.

According to insider gossip, 'Hold on to Now' is lined up to be single 2. Apparently they were indecisive between that and another song, but in the end chose Hold on to Now because it "represents 60% of the album".

Wasn't it supposed to be the first single before they found PP?

No. Padam Padam was one if not the first song for the album chosen. I don't know where this theory that Padam Padam was a late addition comes from?

I think it came from “insiders”. It is true that another song was considered for lead single before Padam Padam though, that much is confirmed by Kylie, and we are to believe that song was Hold On to Now.

I posted this on Popjustice so I thought I may as well share here too!

Here are the previous BMG albums release schedules. Interestingly with each era, the roll out from the first single to the album's release becomes longer.

Fri 19th Jan '18 - Dancing

Fri 9th Mar '18 - Stop Me from Falling (7 weeks after Dancing, 4 weeks before Golden)

Fri 30th Mar '18 - Raining Glitter (1 week before Golden)

Fri 6th Apr '18 - Golden (11 weeks after Dancing)

Thu 23rd Jul '20 - Say Something

Thu 24th Sep '20 - Magic (9 weeks after Say Something, 6 weeks before Disco)

Fri 23rd Oct '20 - I Love It (2 weeks before Disco)

Fri 6th Nov '20 - Disco (15 weeks after Say Something)

Thu 18th May '23 - Padam Padam

Fri 22nd Sep '23 - Tension (18 weeks after Padam Padam)

If Tension's second single and hypothetical instant grat followed Golden's time line, we'd get:

Fri 25th Aug - 2nd Single (but more likely Thursday 24th)

Fri 15th Sep - Instant Grat

However if it replicated Disco, it would be:

Thu 10th Aug - 2nd Single

Fri 8th Sep - Instant Grat

Of course BMG could have a completely different strategy in mind this time around!

The earliest date that Padam Padam could succumb to ACR in the UK chart is the 28th July chart (its 10th week). So from a UK perspective, the 2nd single coming in August could feel like the right time. However Padam Padam is slowly showing signs of growth in Europe and the US, which I hope they're able to capitalise on even if it is alongside the release of the 2nd single.

I won't be surprised if they decide to delay the second single to September. I think they will want to milk PP for all its worth.

I think they may delay single 2 because it would be overshadowed by Padam Padam hun.

I still feel Padam Padam has a lot more in it yet and I agree they will aim to milk it. I would have expexted them to really push this single and just have a longer Tension era campaign as the longer the campaign the more chance of higher album sales over the long run hun.

I think mid august and we will have the 2nd single, that would roughly give padam padam 4 more weeks before it arrives.
I feel UK will get single #2 whilst rest of the world inc Australia (where PP will enjoy a revival if it hits it big in the US, Aussies are proper yank kiss-asses and wannabes) will stick with PP.

It indeed would make sense to release it in August! 11th or 18th but they will release it on Thursday anyway. It will still probably be properly outshined by Padam, but at least will be given some chance to breathe on its own. Probably Padam will still outchart the single number two even on ACR though, unless they release the CDs simultaneously.

I really feel they knew Padam would be a hit of some sorts (just not that big), and therefore released it earlier than usual to let it properly shine, which it did! And now I think the 3rd single will have more chances to be a hit than the 2nd, but obviously I'd love to get as many top-40s from the era as possible.

But I keep thinking... I remember the panic of the leaks when the era started, many fans thought the era would be already doomed. Then we were mad at BMG for releasing on a Thursday and possibly ruining the only chance of it going top-40... and here we are! A multi-week top-10, as well as an easy future 100-millioner on Spotify (her 3rd!); the leaks got unnoticed or even helped the hype of the release (see 'Tension' floating around on Twitter), and we are talking the biggest BMG debut for Kylie.

I think the second single could struggle for attention but I hope it could still make Top 40.

Could easily imagine the follow up going low Top 40 - I know it’s a challenge for artists to follow up hits now but I think the renewed interest in Kylie and the fact PP feels bigger than it has been (in chart terms) will help with support and curiosity streams for single 2.

The 2nd song will do ok even if just the first week

NMF high up

A few other big playlists

2 downlodable tracks from standard/deluxe Itunes

Video Premiere

All released on a Friday should be enough for a top 40.

I'm hoping she can get a little bit of support for the next single, especially as this "comeback" feels like it's been a big moment in pop culture. I'm not expecting anything though.

I guess i am the only one, who hasn't heard any other songs lol so not sure what is coming

there will be features though i think and lots of learnings from Padam Padam so BMG i am sure will be ready.

Don't see it on any of the usual sites, so the leak is either limited so far or hasn't happened.

I'll wait until September tbh.

It looks like it was a false alarm, thankfully!

According to somebody on Popjustice, the leaked clip of Tension (the song) has amassed over 1 million views. That's amazing. Clearly there's hype there for that song, so I hope BMG don't ignore it
