August 13, 20222 yr Author The last Man Utd manager to lose the opening two games was John Chapman in 1921
August 13, 20222 yr We're currently bottom of the table as things stand. A good screenshot opportunity for many fans who hate Man United. Maybe in a few decades time Man City will be in this position.
August 13, 20222 yr Author Brentford become the first ever home team to score four goals in the first half v Manchester United in the Premier League.
August 13, 20222 yr I haven't seen the Brentford - Man United match, but having seen the scoreline I want to now! A shame for Leeds to only get the draw after going 2-0 up, but one point is still better than none.
August 13, 20222 yr @1558515806937432064 So what do we need to do.. spend more money!!! Like I said before, I am not sure Ten Haag is the man unless he learns the Premier League pretty quickly and tries and finds players who haven't played under Ajax before, seems a recipe for disaster. That being said, there are so many obvious holes in the Utd squad vs the current philosphy. De Gea being a glaringly massive one, he just cannot be a sweeper keeper.
August 13, 20222 yr And just seen Ten Haag's post match comments - this is not going to end well  Players under the bus already.
August 13, 20222 yr He's right though with what he said, we do need better quality players. It's always the manager who gets most of the blame but really the players are more at fault. Klopp, Guardiola and even Fergie would struggle with this squad.

Klopp, Guardiola and even Fergie would struggle with this squad. You've got one of the most expensively assembles squads in the history of world football. What motivation do players need when the recuitment strategy is about branding and paying players more than they are worth? The problem isn't the players, it's the complete lack of strategy which will take 4-5 years to sort out. Jadon Sancho has had more Premier League managers than goals. Klopp finished 7th in his first season and Guardiola 4th. It takes time to implement ideas, but they got the most out of their squads as they possibly could and helped create the right culture. You take your medicine along the way (I remember the Adam Bogdan horror show vs Watford).
August 14, 20222 yr Fergie would win the league with this squad mate! No he wouldn't. There's a reason why Fergie kept assembling different squads during his time as manager instead of relying on the same players all the time and not selling or releasing anyone until they retired from football.

If you go to a supermarket and see a bag of horse manure on a shelf priced at £1 million it's still horse manure at the end of the day. The players are over-priced but that doesn't mean that they're good enough, of course it will take time for United to improve majorly but with this squad that we currently have it's not going to happen unless we clear more players out and replace them with better quality. At Manchester City in 2007 or 2008 the likes of Darius Vassell, Stephen Ireland, Paul Dickov, Georgios Samaras, Danny Mills etc.. could have cost the exact same amount of money in total as the current Man United squad and they could have had Pep as manager but there's no way they would have made the kind of impact Man City's current squad is having. Same goes for Liverpool and Klopp as well, if players are not the problem then the likes of Van Dijk, Salah, Alisson could have stayed where they were before and Klopp could have just relied solely on the 2015/16 squad of players that he inherited.

But who buys the players? The manager's and the club. 9 years since Fergie left - and you've done the same pattern every season. Now the new manager in charge with a fetish for Eredivise players and bought a CB who looks out of his depth. A good coach can get the most of out their players. Utd literally buy players every summer - least season you bought Sancho, Varane and Ronaldo. Now Utd probably need another CB, RW and forward player  People laughed at Klopp for buying Jota over Traore. Mane and Salah were good players but nowhere near the elite level needed at the time. We buy players because they fit for a purpose - if you crawl through Liverpool Twitter and forums right now everyone will tell you we are desperate for a midfielder. We won't buy one though because we obviously have a target in mind who is unreachable this summer.

Yeah the manager buys the players but Ten Hag didn't buy the players who were shit week after week last season and that are still here at the club, it's true that a good coach can get the most out of their players but there's only so much that can be done when the squad is as bad and disjointed as this. Ralf Rangnick was spot on when he said that the club needed a whole new team. Ten Hag has tried to bring more players in but they don't want to come and that boils down to the toxic culture at Man United at the moment due to the Glazers. I go back to my example of Klopp at Liverpool, if the players are not to blame and shouldn't take responsibility then maybe he shouldn't have bought anyone at all and just kept the same squad that was there when he arrived. I'm sure most of them are still young enough and healthy enough to play professionally now, we would see if Liverpool would still reach 92, 97, 99 points in the league or win any other competitions.

The Glazers don't help, but I also don't think Gary Neville being a total hypcrite helps either. Everyone was happy last season when you brought in Ronaldo, Sancho and Varane - where was the mass uproar then? A large part of the mess comes down to no football strategy, what is Man Utd's aim? Right now they just throw darts at a board and pick a player with no thought for how they fit in to the style and culture. Players don't want to come to Manchester United unless they are mercenaries because which player have Utd bought over the last 9 years who has become a superstar? There are none. The Klopp example is weak - I get your point, but apples and oranges. Liverpool were coming off the back of a dreadful 2014/2015 season. We'd been forced to sell out best player in 2014 and then our best player of the 2014/2015 season in Sterling wanted out. Of course you always need to buy players and upgrade, but at what point when you've spent over £1b on players do you start think that signing new players all the time isn't actually the problem. Our rough first XI when Klopp took over at the time was Mignolet, Clyne, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno, Henderson, Milner, Lallana, Sturridge, Coutinho, Benteke. 6 of those players won the Champions League in 2019. Most of them were there for our worst ever Premier League performance imo in the 6-1 defeat at Stoke.

Alright we can agree to disagree on this subject but it's no coincidence that we've gone through so many different managers in the past 4 years in particular but the squad has largely been the same in that time period. Anyway besides the situation at Man United, it was a very entertaining end to end match between Nottingham Forest and West Ham and a good re-introduction to the Premier League for the home side. I think the City Ground could be quite a fortress this season.
