July 2, 20223 yr I just don’t see them allowing a band who have not released music in over 20 years to perform in a headlining slot and fair dues they don’t deserve it. The legends slot is a nod to their impact and achievements but also reflects the fact they are not current on the scene and have not been for years. (Ps Greatest Hits and Headlines do not count lol) Despite releasing music through the years, you can't say that Paul McCartney is "current". When was his last hit single?
July 2, 20223 yr Despite releasing music through the years, you can't say that Paul McCartney is "current". When was his last hit single? His last album in 2020 went to #1 and he hasn’t had an album out of the top 5 since 2007 I think that he is current enough alongside his unquestionable contribution to the music scene to guarantee a headline slot. Put it this way if Kylie and Diana Ross weren’t given headline slots then why on earth do the girls deserve it over them? Kylie especially! Don’t get me wrong I’d love it if they were but I also don’t think they deserve it, the legends slot would be a honour and probably more well received by the public who are more likely to be wtf if they headline.
July 2, 20223 yr I think it would be a really big missed opportunity from Glasto, personally. Paul might have his rabid fanbase that will buy the albums but he isn't 'current' at all, sorry. In the same vein that ABBA are not current even though they released that terrible album last year. Yes, the girls should be doing music. We all know that and f*** knows why they are so resistant to it. It sucks. But it would be an amazing thing to see The Spice Girls headlining the main stage, personally.
July 2, 20223 yr ^ That's the thing. Kylie is MUCH more current & successful than Paul in the UK these days. So why wasn't she given a headline slot, too? Because she's an ageing woman, perhaps? Edited July 2, 20223 yr by Voodoo

Because she's an ageing woman, perhaps? This is such a fact! She really should have been given a headlining slot. I think it’s more that she is a pop act than that she is female though. I imagine Madonna would tell them to f*** off if they offered her the legends slot.
July 2, 20223 yr ^ That's the thing. Kylie is MUCH more current & successful than Paul in the UK these days. So why wasn't she given a headline slot, too? Because she's an ageing woman, perhaps? Absolutely! A woman in pop is always relegated to second fiddle. Kylie was done SO dirty with the legends slot, she could easily have headlined it as it was originally planned. They absolutely should have given her another chance. Like, this is it for Kylie, after playing the legends slot there is no way they will give her the main slot anymore.
July 2, 20223 yr This is such a fact! She really should have been given a headlining slot. I think it’s more that she is a pop act than that she is female though. I imagine Madonna would tell them to f*** off if they offered her the legends slot. And Madonna would be right to tell them to f*** off! Hell, Madonna never headlining summer festivals sucks. That woman sells out stadiums across the world at age 60 ffs and keeps recording/releasing successful music. She is considered 'current' or at least more current than f***ing Paul McCartney. It's a crime she never did Glasto or Coachella! She would be amazing!

I find it amazing she has never been offered coachella, Glastonbury I get to some extent as for many years pop acts just did not get invited.
July 3, 20223 yr Think she did some festivals during the Confessions era, but not as headliner which is wild to me (she even did a smaller stage at Coachella!!)... same for the Spices, they were always mostly a 'own tour' kind of act. But generally it seems like it was mostly due to industry being adverse to pop girls and women in general not giving them the credit they deserve. It is a shame that Taylor Swift didnt do her slot in Glasto this year as it was planned originally. It would have opened many doors for other female acts. Beyonce is the only other 'pop' act who did it, and it is a shame that no others got invited. Adele doesnt quite count as she is technically not a 'pop' act like the others. Which is why the Spices should be definitely be on the headline slot. It's about time to get a girlband to headline, let alone a pop one. Glasto has been more welcoming to pop acts of the last 10 years so it would make sense, in my view!
July 3, 20223 yr Author I don't think Kylie was done dirty with the Legends slot at all! :o She took all the attention that year. I had to check who headlined (it was Stormzy, The Killers and The Cure). I'm not really sure I see the perspective that doing the Legends slot is a consolation prize or something. I mean okay, it's not the headliner, but it absolutely has prestige to it. I think Kylie being mentioned in the same breath as "Legend" was an important moment in her career, solidifying how the public really do see her as a legendary artist now. Spice Girls are perfect for the Legends slot. I don't think we can successfully make a good enough case for them to be a good fit as a headliner for the festival. That has everything to do with their current standing in the music world - and this is pretty much by their own doing - but whenever they do come back together, they ride the wave of their legacy, their past glories. Very far back in the past glories. There's been no new album for 22 years. Yet the music they made in the 90s has really stood the test of time, and they're widely seen as being icons of the decade. There's always a feverish interest in them. They're certainly celebrated a lot more now than they were 10+ years ago. That's why them doing the Legends slot would suit them down to the ground. It just makes sense! By all means if the Spice Girls had been active as a group in recent years then being headliners could have made sense too, but they haven't been. I just think we have to be realistic. Doing the legends slot would surely be a triumph for them. I mean seriously, who'd have even imagined in the 90s or 00s that the Spice Girls would ever be mentioned with complete seriousness in the same breath as Glastonbury? I'd be so proud of them if they did it.
July 3, 20223 yr I understand that the legends slot has become a bit of a hit lately, but honestly headlining is a much better offer to them, I think and it would right some past wrongs from Glastonbury. Kylie was absolutely given a legends slot because as a consolation, but I am glad it did turn around for her! That's great for her, but once you do that slot, it would be even harder to come back in the future. Plus Kylie absolutely deserved to headline that year as well, instead of, for instance, the f***ing The Cure who hadnt released anything in a long long time either. Like, fine if they do the Legends slot. But having the freaking Spice Girls headlining? Now *THAT* would be the cherry on the cake! And the girls should absolutely vouch for it! They deserve it and I think it would go down in history as one of the most iconic shows at Glastonbury for sure. Imagine in 2023 a POP GIRLBAND that is a touring force and with an array of incredibly well recognisable and crowd-pleasing HITS headlining Glastonbury? That would be ICONIC!! And what better girlband to do so than the biggest and best girlband of all time, who have proven themselves like over and over again? If they do the Legends slot it will be cute and special and all, for sure. But it isn't the same, sorry! Edited July 3, 20223 yr by Mr.X

And what better girlband to do so than the biggest and best girlband of all time, who have proven themselves like over and over again? But this is exactly why they would get the Legends slot, and it would be great. It is the slot that gets easily the biggest crowd and has all the attention inside the festival and has as much hype as anything else. It's what brings the whole festival together, 75 minutes of the crowd having a great sing-a-long as the festival draws towards its close. It's absolutely set up for older acts that have a catalogue of songs people know to which they they can spend the afternoon singing and dancing. It's far more set up to a Spice Girls or a Kylie than it ever would be to a Cure, who you can easily have headline because they are a big act, have a long history with the festival, and there's loads more stuff on at that time for those who aren't bothered. Personally I'd find it hard to imagine not going to a Legends set, yet I'm only 1/9 for Pyramid headliners. Edited July 3, 20223 yr by RabbitFurCoat
July 3, 20223 yr naaaa... it is not as iconic as the headline slot. Plenty of other gigs and things happening at the same time as the legends slot too, so that isnt an excuse. The Cure getting another headline slot isnt iconic. The Spice Girls getting a headline slot would be absolutely iconic. Plus, Kylie would have had the same or even bigger reception as a headliner, it wasnt because of the slot. It was because she is Kylie f***ing Minogue. She even kind of mentioned it in her own slot, 'it wasnt supposed to be this way but...' and you could see she was a bit gutted (whilst of course being happy so many turned up for her). Again, don't get me wrong. Them doing Legends would be cute and all. But the cherry on the cake would be to headline it. That would be the stuff of iconic legends, not just legends :P Edited July 3, 20223 yr by Mr.X
July 3, 20223 yr Voted: Legends Yes (maybe wishful thinking but hopefully the prestige and being a one-off event would draw her in) Top 20 (dependant on physical availability)

If they get the legends slot it’s a huge honour and triumph for them, it shows that Glastonbury the most prestigious music festival in the world sees Spice Girls as legends in music… it will solidify them as music icons that nobody can dispute. The headliner slot will not solidify them any more than the legends slot will. Also this is definitely a one off thing, they won’t be invited again (if at all) and they wouldn’t get their act together to do it again tbh. I have doubts there will be more from them in terms of touring since Geri also seems over it now and if they do I certainly don’t see them carrying on after this will be a final hurrah for sure.
July 3, 20223 yr The legend slot would be the perfect slot, takes a bit of the heat off them as has become the more fun/campy slot recently. Them giving Glasto that shot of camp joy is the perfect antidote to the overly cool and credible headliner slots. Spice girls doing a big upbeat and colourful legends slot = perfection.

I dont care too much for it, sorry. Yes, I will watch the show on iPlayer/youtube of course, but for me not being a headline act is a missed opportunity on both sides, that's all. They don't need the legends slot to be legends. They already are and they deserve to be a headline act. Either way, it's all a win

There may be other stuff on but nowhere near to the same extent, a hell of a lot doesn't start up until the evening, and the level of acts you compete with as a headliner are in a completely different league to those playing other stages on a Sunday afternoon. I was in a group of 7 who watched Kylie Minogue, and none of us would have gone to see her as a headliner. If I'm there again next year and Spice Girls play I'd say I'd be about 90% certain I'd watch them as Legends, and about 10% chance I'd watch as headliners.
September 16, 20222 yr Mel C continues to hint at a 5-piece Glasto appereance at her book event: “it’s definitely a day VB won’t be busy for…”
