Following the seemingly eternal streaming hit ‘Dark Red’ (which didn’t make the Top 40 sadly), Steve Lacy new single ‘Bad Habit’ is looking like it’ll finally break new chart ground for him!

Steve is the guitarist of American band The Internet, but is probably best known for his solo music at this point. Anyway, ‘Bad Habit’ is a great slice of indie pop.

Loved his debut solo album, really looking forward to this on Friday.

All three tracks released so far have been great, but Bad Habit is my favourite, glad to see it taking off!

Loved the first album he’s this generations Stevie wonder imo!

Bad Habit rly gets better with every listen doesn't it? Totally obsessed with it rn and I'm v excited for it to be an actual hit!

N Side and Like Me are still his best imo but Bad Habit could definitely come in 3rd. Mercury and Sunshine aren't quite hitting the same for me yet.

It debuted at #69 this week! I thought it was his first Top 100 single, but I'd completely forgotten about his Love Regenerator feature which got to #75!

Anyway, it's looking good for Top 40 next week

I'm not enjoying this album as much as I did with Apollo XXI but hopefully that'll change with time! Mercury is a real standout, the production feels very early Sufjan Stevens.
Given 'Bad Habit' a second listen a few moments ago and it's sounding better but I'm not sure I get the huge appeal really. Either way looking to be a big hit for him this.

Heard bad habit a few times on the radio, I have to say the vocals are pretty sketchy at points, surely can’t be the only one that thinks this?

'Mercury' and 'Sunshine' were both ok as well but very glad that 'Bad Habit' is the one that's taken off from this era as it's easily the best of the three for me! Kind of gives me similar vibes to 'Meet Me At Our Spot'. Really hope it can go top 10 in the UK soon, but at least it's made it in the US already either way.

Looks like it has a good shot at going to #1 in the US this week too although it's apparently pretty close between all of the top 3 (with 'As It Was' and 'Unholy').

And he's done it!

 @ChartEssentials had it predicted for #1 but literally only 1 point ahead of Harry so wasn't celebrating until it was officially confirmed, we love to see it!

Funny that it had been #1 on US Spotify for weeks on end and then it finally makes #1 on the Hot 100 the week that a new release ('Unholy') held it at #2 all week

the song is definitely a grower, didn't do much for me at first and never registered in my brain until I listened for the 20th time or something, but really like it now, so I can see why it's been such a slow climber :o

Same here, going by Spotify I first added it to my 'liked songs' playlist in July and have apparently listened to it four times since but couldn't particularly recall it. Yesterday I listened again and it was the first time I thought 'actually, I really enjoy this', so moved it closer to the top of my playlist. A grower for sure, I really like the chilled 90s stoner movie soundtrack vibe to it.

Doesn't sound like the sort of thing that would be a big hit in 2022, but thanks to TikTok a lot of songs don't. It's good that the definition of what a hit sounds like is evolving.
