I think I've come around to TLT a little tbh. I do think it plods on for too long without going anywhere, but it's rather nice.
TLT is SO good, a massive grower and I love the whole space disco aesthetic. It feels like it's every other video on my FYP at the moment (though so is Katy Perry's Just Eat song so maybe it just knows me too well)
Coconuts had a lot of airplay in the UK didnt it? People just dont like that artist.

No? I know 'Malibu' did, but that similarly did nothing.

Anyway, the video to this is so adorable  Plus I also love the Button Moon-esque element to it.

Rolling Stone review (positive): "Carly Rae Jepsen Dances Her Way Through Heartbreak on ’The Loneliest Time’ / The latest album from the Canadian pop goddess delivers high-gloss pop with serious emotional punch" https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-al...ime-1234612759/

iNews review (mixed): "Lovely album, but where’s the emotion? / We know Jepsen is capable of glistening perfection. Her fourth album leaves us longing for it" https://inews.co.uk/culture/music/carly-rae...emotion-1924874

iNews renders its entire mixed review irrelevant by not being able to Google how many albums Carly has released

First listen rate:

08.0 Surrender My Heart > Nice start to the album. I think this will be a big grower! <

07.5 Joshua Tree > This is weird. I LOOOOOVVVE the verses, but the chorus/hook is a bit... meh. Hopefully it grows. <

11.0 Talking To Yourself > One of my favourite songs of the year. <

06.5 Far Away > This is a bit... uneventful. It doesn't go as far as it promises? <

06.0 Sideways > Boring. <

07.5 Beach House > Essential Carly? No. But is it an infectious bop that grows on you? Yes. <

07.0 Bends > This is nice. Could be a grower/one I appreciate more with more listens. Quite interesting production. <

07.0 Western Wind > Ok. This is nice in the context of the album. It's just a shame I just don't ever want to go back to it. <

06.5 So Nice > How apt a title. <

08.0 Bad Thing Twice > This is fun! Much more in line with what I wanted/expected from the album! <

07.0 Shooting Star > Not sure if I like this or find it irritating? LMAOOOO. <

07.5 Go Find Yourself or Whatever > This is really lovely. Completely different to what I expected though? LMAO. Kinda wanted an all out, electro pop banger! Lol. <

07.5 The Loneliest Time > This has been growing on me quite a bit, but it plods on for a minute too long, imo. It's nice though. <

07.0 Anxious > This is good. Nothing particularly special, but strong enough. <

05.5 No Thinking Over The Weekend > SNOOOOOOOOOOZZZZZEEEEEE    <

06.0 Keep Away > Okay. You won't have to tell me twice. <

Dunno what I expected but... this wasn't it :( A bit boring. Not an awful lot ventures away from "nice".

beach house actually stands out as the fun carly bop on the album for me, which i guess isn’t the best news considering my initial reaction to it lol.

for me, the strengths here rly are the more low key ones. ‘bends’ is really fantastic and i still love ‘western wind’. ‘talking to yourself’ is great but it’s more emotion side b than main album.

hoping this grows!

I’ve been a flop and have only just found the time to give the album my first play!

Firstly I’ll cut to the chase and say that overall I’m very pleased with it! A few scattered thoughts:

There’s certainly a fair amount of mid-tempo to slower tracks this time around, which is no bad thing for me, not when they are packed with gorgeous melodies. Carly sounds impeccable to me. I’ve thought for a very long time that she has such a lovely quality to her voice where she sounds quite delicate but really conveys the emotion of her lyrics so beautifully. Bends in particular is a super stunning moment, and Western Wind sounds more beautiful than ever before coming straight afterwards. Go Find Yourself or Whatever & Keep Away continue these soundscapes, they’re great too.

The album is very synthy, which is right up my street. There’s a pleasantly hazy quality to a few of the tracks which made for a nice and relaxing listening experience.

Yet there’s enough boppier moments to keep me satisfied. Talking to Yourself is my overall favourite, it’s fast becoming one of my overall favourite Carly songs! Love when she taps into that euphoric pop sound. The opening track Surrender My Heart is single worthy - I think it could have been longer, I wanted more time with it! Anxious is great too, I think that would have been worthy of standard track list inclusion. Beach House is still Bop House.

Title track The Loneliest Time has grown on me so much over the past week, it’s definitely a stand out moment on the album, the perfect end for the standard track list.

I’m not sure that Shooting Star with the vocoder effect works for me, but nevertheless it’s an interesting song and perhaps that’ll make more sense with further listens.

No Thinking Over the Weekend was maybe one slowie too far but still pleasant.

Even So Nice, which in the wrong hands would be completely cheesy, she somehow sells it and it really is so nice. Particularly towards the end of the song.

I often wish Carly wasn’t as overlooked as she is because I think she’s a master at what she does and she deserves more widespread love and appreciation for what she offers in the world of pop. I suppose a big part of her charm at this point is that she’s a well kept secret, and those who know, know!

I look forward to giving this a lot more attention, but before that I need to turn my attention to Taylor Swift!

trying to work this out album... its sorta mellow meets arty farty. hope going forward she starts dropping album tracks from 'emotion' from her setlist.

I bought and do like this album, it's obviously going to be overshadowed in terms of column inches (and sales, but it would never compete there) coming out the same week as Taylor.

But there's not many 'Wow, this song is amazing' moments. The singles have all been solid for me, I really like Talking To Yourself, Beach House and The Loneliest Time.

Far Away was my other favourite, I can hear shades of late 80s Madonna, like Cherish (not melodically, but some of the production flourishes and the general vibe).
