August 26, 20222 yr The song debuted at #77 but he’s done very little promo for it. It’s been bumped up to the A Playlist on Radio 2.
August 26, 20222 yr It was reasonably close to achieving Top 75 status. I think the chances of Somebody climbing is slim.
August 27, 20222 yr Yeah not a great sign if it missed the top 75 on debut really, 'SPACE MAN' also debuted a few places lower but a different story as this doesn't have the Eurovision hype and haven't seen much push for this song either. Can't say it's one I've really returned to outside of one listen oops. I doubt it's going to climb with his Sigala feature dropping next week too as that'll take the attention off 'Somebody' as well!
August 28, 20222 yr Little bit of trivia: SPACE MAN has charted in the Belgium UltraTop50 for 14 weeks (3 months). It entered the chart at #30 on 28/05/2022 and peaked at #22 a week later. Since then it’s gone down and up and down and up but it’s still there doing well. Edited August 28, 20222 yr by Chloe00x
October 11, 20222 yr As popular as he is I do feel he's wasting his opportunity flogging this dead horse song. I don't know if the record company is forcing his hand with what is released but "Somebody" was number #77 in the charts, the Sigala song was number #48 so not good performances. My worry is his record company will soon start looking at bad performances and start wondering about whether to keep supporting him. In terms of promoting an album I don't think he should be on shows still pushing "Somebody" as representative of the album. I've heard some of the other new songs and they are much better. I was really looking forward to buying his album but when I look at the album track listing he's just stuck 3 songs from the EP onto the album... why? He seems to have a great manager for his promo but to me his music is all very badly managed. His fanbase is there but a lot of them know his talent and won't be interested in any old rubbish.
October 11, 20222 yr Author ‘Deep Blue Doubt’ is the only new song I’ve heard and definitely should have been picked instead of ‘Somebody’ as a single going by the live version. PKUNZ1a_tDg
October 11, 20222 yr 'Somebody' has grown on me a bit just because I think he's really good at selling it, but at its core it's really just not a very good song - I like it more coming from him than I would from a Dermot Kennedy or a Tom Grennan but there's only so much you can polish a turd.
October 11, 20222 yr He did a TikTok concert and played Deep Blue Doubt, Put A Light On Me, This Time and All The Way Over and they are good and completely different. I suppose I can deal with some songs from the EP like Tiny Riot and More which are great and there are 8 new songs after all the ones we’ve heard including Space Man and Living Without You but flogging Somebody for months over something better is annoying with his potential.
October 11, 20222 yr Yeah Somebody is a misstep but I’m hoping he’ll have more in the tank in terms of commercial success. Eurovision next year should continue his high exposure at least. He’s definitely the sort of artist that is only the right song away from a smash I think - a charismatic performer with a great voice, energy and stage presence and a big TikTok following, so with the material to back it up I can see him doing ok. I’d lean more into the rock than the pop at this point I think. Ironically, Somebody sounds a little like a box ticking exercise to try and get a hit, whereas Space Man didn’t exactly sound like a 2022 smash on paper but was (obviously Eurovision helped but when has that ever sustained a song at the high end of the charts for weeks). So I’d stop ticking boxes and just do the bigger, rockier stuff that is more natural to him.
October 13, 20222 yr Author Sam is performing at the NTA’s tonight although I think he is performing ‘Space Man’ it should give the album a few extra pre orders.
October 13, 20222 yr Sam is performing at the NTA’s tonight although I think he is performing ‘Space Man’ it should give the album a few extra pre orders. Joel Dommett said he’s performing 2 songs ^_^
