October 21, 20222 yr Early days, only halfway through the first day, but I think Taylor may have this in the bag now... I haven't seen an album of hers be this well received on the first day since 1989, and the critics reviews of Midnights are her best yet. She's currently at 94 on Metacritic based on 9 critics reviews Her Apple Music performance so far is her strongest yet too, she already has 6 of the top 10 on Apple and the entire album is in the top 200 twice Edited October 21, 20222 yr by Starlight 13
October 21, 20222 yr Maybe depends on where you look but I've seen pretty mixed reactions to this album so far? (A high Metacritic score yes although that's already come down a bit from being at 98 initially). Mind that was also the case for 'Harry's House' so the obvious conclusion is the general public will eat this up far more than her last couple of albums xx
October 21, 20222 yr Haven't heard any of the songs yet but hopefully it's more like Folklore/Evermore and not some of the drivel she was putting out with the album before that. Just received my vinyl of The Car! :cheer:
October 21, 20222 yr Haven't heard any of the songs yet but hopefully it's more like Folklore/Evermore Ummmm…. I think you too are going to be disappointed
October 21, 20222 yr Haven't heard any of the songs yet but hopefully it's more like Reputation and not some of the drivel she was putting out with the albums after that.

I think you are going to be pleased. To be honest though it’s a bit of a mixture drawing on influences from 1989, Reputation and Lover
October 21, 20222 yr Haven't heard any of the songs yet but hopefully it's more like melodic rap and not some of the grime drivel she was putting out with her last album.
October 21, 20222 yr @1583582457810407425 get that number 1 x the streaming sales will surely be huge? Edited October 21, 20222 yr by Lunar
October 22, 20222 yr Haven't heard any of the songs yet but hopefully it's more like Reputation and not some of the drivel she was putting out with the albums after that. Having now listened I can say it's a pretty bad album imo but still my favourite of hers since Reputation lol
October 22, 20222 yr i think arctic monkeys could still do it they are doing better on streaming than i expected too
October 22, 20222 yr They've done very well on Spotify, album bombing especially after the singles already released in advance have not been very mainstream or AM part II. If it weren't for releasing the same week as Taylor, they would have multiple tracks in the Spotify top 10 right now which is very impressive. Having said all that it's nothing on the streaming figures Taylor has achieved, I think its basically set in stone they will have to settle for #2 with this album now. Disappointing but hey ho, if they actually cared they would have moved the release date.
October 23, 20222 yr I don't think streaming is really the relevant factor here, it will be won or lost by how many physicals they shift (hence why I think Taylor's 500 versions will be what pushes her over the line and I'm less sure that she would win if the OCC only counted one pure sale per customer).
October 23, 20222 yr Author was reading how in the US Taylor's preorders x vinyls alone were 400,000!!
October 23, 20222 yr was reading how in the US Taylor's preorders x vinyls alone were 400,000!! Yep, she has the biggest pure sales of the year after her first days sales alone…. apparently did 800k in pure sales in one day (obviously all the pre sales in there), I know she’s massive there but I am kind of shook
October 23, 20222 yr I think Folklore did wonders for Taylor in terms of bringing new listeners along whilst maintaining her loyal fanbase. Got to give it to her there is as much buzz about this as there was for 1989 back in 2014.

Got to give it to her there is as much buzz about this as there was for 1989 back in 2014. Agreed. Folklore isn’t my favourite music she’s ever made in terms of style, but it was an amazingly written album and I think it won her a lot of respect from casual listeners. This is looking to be her biggest opening week in the US to date. I wouldn’t be surprised if she did it in the UK too. Her biggest week here was 1989 at around 94k I believe?
October 24, 20222 yr From the OCC. Taylor Swift starts out in front in the biggest Official Chart battle of the year so far, going up against Arctic Monkeys in the race for the UK’s Official Number 1 album. Taylor’s latest album Midnights takes the lead ahead of Arctic Monkeys and their seventh album The Car (2). A huge week is underway with both records clearing well over 100,000 copies in just three days according to Official Charts Company data. Only one other album has broken that threshold in a full week this year – Harry Styles’ Harry’s House, which managed 113,000 units in its opening week. The Official Charts Company can also confirm that Midnights is now already the UK’s fastest-selling album of 2022 so far, pulling in an astounding 140,000 chart sales and counting, with only three full days of tracking. Arctic Monkeys follow just behind with 105,000 chart units at the midweek mark. The race is far from over yet, but if Taylor maintains this early momentum, it would land the pop superstar a ninth UK Number 1 album, as well as ending the Sheffield rockers’ flawless run of six chart-topping studio albums on the bounce.
October 24, 20222 yr I’m willing to bet that 50% of Taylor’s sales so far are from streaming Not even close lol. The highest streaming sales in a week ever (first week for '÷') was only 79k.
