Great that in this very difficult period for trans people in society that there are trans/non binary artists likely to get the new no.1. I know the pop charts are very different culturally to the aggressors (media, politicians) but still promising.

Kim Petras' "career" looked to be in complete disarray just a few months ago but now coming for a transatlantic smash hit and potential UK #1 debut. Swings and roundabouts.

 

I remain unconvinced she'll actually have any bigger success by herself after this, but I guess it remains to be seen.

 

It's a shame 'Heart to Break' or 'Malibu' couldn't have done it instead for her.

I wasn’t expecting Sam to still be #1 on Spotify but I’m glad they are. I was expecting them to drop today. I think they should be safe for #1 on Friday
Yeah I expected Unholy to drop a bit harder today, was expecting closer to the 450k mark where I'm Good is.

Halsey is non-binary, not transgender. She's been pretty open about it throughout her career and uses she/her and they/them pronouns.

 

I thought if you are non-binary then are you ARE transgender (i.e. not cis-gender)?

 

If not then my mistake. But I'm sure I've seen many other non-binary people call themselves transgender on the Internet. But Halsey is not a woman, basically. She's a different gender to what she was assigned at birth.

 

Although I would disagree that she's been pretty open about it. She was in the days when she had a big following on Tumblr. Ever since Closer came out I don't think I've ever heard her mention it once (of course I trust you that she has, I don't exactly pay much attention to her). But at the time (I think it was 2016?) I was genuinely curious how the public would react to a non-binary pop star. But the months passed, and more months passed... And it just seemed like nothing happened, nobody seemed to know (and it seems a lot of the people in this very thread don't seem to know about this). I think she definitely was a lot quieter about it after she became famous, in the Tumblr days it was something she talked about a LOT, to the point people were making jokes about her mentioning it so much.

Surprised to see it actually climbing on Apple now. Maybe I’ve overestimated the curiosity streams in its debut performance and underestimated its true popularity.
To me with I’m Good, Unholy and various others going viral on TikTok pre-release, this almost feels like the new ‘six weeks plug in advance of release’ that was had for so long in the 90s and 00s. Funny that even in this era songs are still able to be held back and hyped before release to maximise their potential debut!

Tbf the version of Unholy that was going crazy on Tiktok was by a band who made there name with a cover of Running Up That Hill over the summer

Does anyone know how Run Away To Mars by Talk is performing? It's a really good song and all over Tik Tok so I expected it to take off
