Heartbeat was initially successful and got huge radio support but later got completly overshadowed by tragedy which has never changed. Heartbeat is prob forgotten in most circles where tragedy is seen as classic steps.

24. Happy | 7.937 Highest Scores: 10: (Yobnedor), Lowest Scores: 6: (Qween)

At #24 is Happy, an album track that appeared on the group's 5th studio album Tears On The Dancefloor, written by Steve Mac & Ina Wroldsen with production by The Alias who also produced most of the album. Despite not being a single the track got a remix titled 'Club Junkies' which would feature on the re-release edition of the album as well as making the setlist of their 'Party On The Dancefloor' tour from 2017. Another worthy addition to the 'Platinum Collection' with its pulsating up-tempo dance beats & brooding verses that bursts with energy once the chorus drops. This is classic melancholic lyrics set against a dance beat, which is what Steps does best. A firm album highlight that like many tracks could have made for a great single, if they went with a 4th option from the standard edition.

Another will drop later, it will be a track from the first disc, any guesses?
Happy is a really good track and good that it made the platinum collection, its a song that again highlights steps not only have great singles but also some great album tracks.

Happy is definitely one of their best album tracks, even if the intro sounds like a news bulletin.

It was a real highlight for me on the Party on the Dancefloor tour, that performance made me go from liking the song to loving it.

23. Story of a Heart | 8.117 Highest Scores: 10: (gooddelta, spiceboy), Lowest Scores: 2: (Jessie Where)

At #23 & already entering into the 8's averages with Story of a Heart[, released in May 2017 in the form of a remix EP, with a radio release in June of that same year as the 2nd single from the group's 5th studio album Tears On The Dancefloor. The song was originally recorded by Benny Andersson's Band with vocals by Swedish singer Helen Sjoholm back in 2009. Steps' cover of the song has garnered numerous comparisons to ABBA, a group they were often compared to early in their career because of their similarly composed songs & aside from this the group have covered several songs by Andersson and Ulvaeus, written & recorded as part of ABBA.

Everything about this song is classic Steps with its infectious melodies & solid vocals that soars over the stellar production that gives the whole track a wonderful nostalgic vibe throughout. The ABBA comparisons are undeniable (not surprising considering who wrote it), but it just goes to show how well suited Steps are to that sound & perfectly goes hand in hand with each other. This song is yet another worthy addition to their already incredible discography & the perfect follow-up to their amazing comeback hit 'Scared of the Dark'.
I really enjoy story of a heart but it took a good while to click with me, when i initially heard it i didnt get the like for it like others did and i was like i dont see whats so great about it but after a few months that changed and i really got into the song and still really like it.
Story of a Heart is a beauty of a song
It was very close to getting one of my 11s, such a great song. I play the The 7th Heaven remix just as much as the original too.
For me it's an absolute plodding buzzkill on what is a fantastic album. Can't even finish listening to that song.

Heartbeat fits that for me.

Surprises me that I was the highest voter here. I do love it though.

22. You'll Be Sorry | 8.125 Highest Scores: 11: (Qween), 10: (Aaron), Lowest Scores: 6.5: (Yobnedor)

#22 is You'll Be Sorry, released in June 2001 as a double A-side alongside 'Here and Now'. Both songs appear on their 3rd studio album Buzz & were remixed for their single release with 'You'll Be Sorry' being titled The Pardon Mix; which is similar to the album version but with a hard ending instead of a fade out. The single peaked at #4 on the UK singles chart & despite being yet another successful hit for the group, it ended up being one of their lowest selling singles. The music videos concepts were both linked & a competition was held through the official Steps website for fans to be filmed and appear in the video for this track, but the footage was cut from the final product which disappointed many fans. But finally raw footage from the video shoot was released on Step's YouTube channel showing the competition winners for the first time in 21 years. The footage was cut originally due to time pressure.

With so many great classic tunes in their back catalogue, some will unfortunately fall by the wayside & sadly 'You'll Be Sorry' is one of them & it was the only one that got omitted from their first compilation album 'Gold - Greatest Hits'. Both this & 'Here and Now' were obvious candidates for single releases for different reasons. I would have preferred them to have been released separately instead of being lumped together as this track really got overshadowed, which is a shame as it's a solid trance pop number set against a backdrop of harsh cold synths & a rousing chorus that could have easily been another top 5 hit for the group on it's own. However I do find that The Pardon Mix doesn't really do it justice as it crops the euphoric intro & not allowing it to build like the original album version does. Perhaps one of Step's underrated gems that really deserves a lot more love.
Heartbeat fits that for me.

On an album that contains Experienced and Too Weak to Resist, Heartbeat is definitely not the plodding buzzkill!!

While I would agree that You'll Be Sorry is one of the more underrated singles from their 97-01 era, 8.125 as an average is really impressive so there's definitely quite a bit of love for it here!

It’s defo not an 8 for me.

It’s defo not an 8 for me.

You dragged it down from achieving an even better average, so in the words of Claire, shame on you! :teresa:

It's a good track, but never one I play out of choice. I love the chorus, not so keen on the rest, it's one of the few Steps songs where I don't know all the words actually.

The video with the fans dancing did make me laugh, bless them, it's a little awkward and takes away from the gloss of the video so I can see why it was cut.
