This is absolutely incredible omg! There are moments that are very Janet Jackson and others that are pure Kelela through and through. I need to relisten over and over and be fully immersed in the lyrics and production because this is an album here to stay!

Also strange one but the artwork which I wasn't totally in love with, works perfectly and I can't explain why? The whole album is like a floating experience just drifting along but never fully drowning? Idk I am overthinking it all because I am totally blown away by it

Such a fantastic album- the sequencin, the tempo, and the production, all completely on-point throughout. Lock for #1 EOY 2k23 already I feel.

Oh and the title track is quite special too when that bass cuts in, but I think “Contact” is my fave. *.*

Have listened a fair few times and it sinks in further with every listen. Easily my favourite release of the year so far!

'Let It Go' and 'Sorbet' are pure Janet beauty songs!

I have to add my voice to the appreciation posts… I need to listen to it more but on first couple of plays it is a stunning album. Everything comes together so well from a production perspective, really up my street and I can totally see the Janet comparisons. Also she sounds very similar to Keisha Sugababe on some of the tracks

Can’t get enough of this, what an album!

Do you mean Mutya? I think she sounds really Mutya in quite a few places, especially on the title track (one of my absolute favourites), not really getting Keisha though!

Washed Away is the most perfect album intro ever. That run from Contact to Bruises is just something else. I can't stop playing this and think it slightly edges Caroline's album for me. But whew, what a benchmark Kelela and Caroline have set for 2023. THAT is how you make an album! A masterclass.

THIS. My wig goes flying every time

And then that transition into the incredible Bruises *.*

Currently killing it on tour.

“I started this process from the feeling of isolation and alienation I’ve always had as a Black femme in dance music, despite its black origins. ‘Raven’ (the album and track) is my first breath taken in the dark, an affirmation of Black femme perspective in the midst of systemic erasure and the sound of our vulnerability turned to power.”
