September 28, 20223 yr Yeah it's a bit disappointing but still a great result for him to get his first top 10 album after all these years! I'm in no way surprised by the drop off. He will have 5k opening sales which is fine and I think the album going top 10 will feel huge to Mark.I know the fall will be huge next week but that's generally the case with his albums.
September 28, 20223 yr Resigned to DBE almost certainly getting the #1 album then. Can't really say they don't deserve one after so many years of consistent popularity tbf. Why don't they deserve it?

It's the case with most albums from fanbase heavy acts. I'm not expecting him to even be top 200 next week lol.
September 29, 20223 yr With the #1 single being very tight this week it had me thinking In the very very unlikely scenario that the top 2 songs finished on the exact same number of chart sales what would happen? (Don’t think this has ever happened in chart history and I doubt it ever will but it just had me thinking what if lol)
September 29, 20223 yr ^ It’s almost impossible for that to happen in the streaming era because sales are actually fractions even though they are reported as whole numbers. So if Sam and Guetta both ended on 50,233 sales say, one of them might be 50,233.45 and the other 50,233.12. If they really were exactly the same counting all the decimals… not sure!
September 29, 20223 yr The same question can be posed if there's a tie in any lower position, which although very unlikely due to the aforementioned fractions, certainly is possible to occur especially on genre charts that dip below the top 100. In fact I'd be shocked if it wasn't regularly happening prior to streaming being added to the chart.
September 29, 20223 yr Interesting, I never knew that about the decimals! I guess, if they somehow managed to finish on the same number, the OCC would have to look closely and post the decimals to get a winner lol
September 29, 20223 yr The only tied Top 40 positions I'm aware of in the last 40 years are from a week in 1991 when there were two songs at #21 (Oceanic - Insanity and Sophie Lawrence - Love's Unkind). In the 1950s, it was common for there to be ties for chart positions, including at #1 on a handful of occasions.

There's also another week in 1991 where Roxette 'Spending My Time' and Salt'n'Pepa's 'You Showed Me' were both tied at #22.
September 29, 20223 yr Thanks, I didn't know about that one! There was a week in 2019 when the Album Sales #1 and #2 had the same sales, but the OCC didn't tie the positions in their chart, as discussed in the Sales thread (my subsequent comment refers to Ed's much requoted claim around that time that he had done "no promo" for No. 6 Collaborations Project).
September 29, 20223 yr I've just done some digging and actually tied positions happened a lot in the 90s charts - there are at least 15 occurrences just from 1993!! There's a post on ukmix here which lists these, I've verified a few of them on the OCC website and they're definitely showing as tied positions. But I don't ever remember it happening or being talked about at the time so I'm wondering whether the charts were changed retrospectively? Can anyone shed any light?

Just played a few of the old chart show recordings, they did mention those tied positions on the show when they happened!

September 29, 20223 yr Sports Team really going for a final push today at Banquet Records, personally singed copies and the BR Exclusive Vinyl is down to £10 with discount code PRIMARK. They may just edge it.
September 29, 20223 yr Just bought a DBE bundle, really hope they get it! Big movements for the culture

They may just edge it. Will they though? They were over 3k behind yesterday and DBE are doing well on streaming Pretty sure DBE have it in the bag now

IIRC, they changed the rule because of the low-key furore over the Groove Is In The Heart tying with The Joker on panel sales thing. And then Millward Brown got rid of it again in 1994. I seem to remember seeing a single on the MW report with the same sales at some point in the last 5 years or so, but the tie must've been decided by fractional sales as mentioned above. There was one as recently as August with History and Staying Alive entering with the same sales at #20 and #21!
