It will be interesting to see how the follow up to padam padam does, as we see so often one big hit doesnt lead to another hit in all cases, i think it would be incredible for Kylie to get a 2nd top 40 hit in the Tension era but we will have to wait and see what the song is and what it is like. If she has another earworm like padam padam lined up it could very well happen but for now im going to enjoy seeing the success of padam and padam and cherish seeing Kylie in the Top 10.

We do not need to be putting Madonna down in order to big Kylie up. Kylie might have broke through with this one song but let’s not forget:

 

1) how long it took her to do it

2) how likely it is that this will be the outlier, not the start of a new imperial phrase*

 

*not for lack of hoping, anyway!

I don't think anyone here is putting Madonna down. I have the highest degree of respect for her and wish her all the best and hope she's top of the pops again. Now just isn't the right Madonna phase for Kylie to associate with her.

 

Also, don't think anyone here is thinking this is a new imperial phase. As we've seen even with current acts, radio and public support quickly evaporates after the first single. Kylie will be no exception.

Kylie dueting with Madonna was never a duet i craved much, i do like Madonna but not on the same level as Kylie and while they are often compared they are also so so different, i wouldnt be disappointed to hear they are releasing a duet but at the same time i dont think it will ever happen, its a bit like Dannii if they were doing a single together it should have been years ago.

I do think that the huge success of Padam is probably going to give her second single more instant support than Padam even got so she’s more likely to land another cute hit than she did over the past 10 years.

^^ I think the same, I’m not expecting a smash but wouldn’t be surprised if the follow up didn’t trouble the lower reaches of the Top 40 just off the back of the success of PP.

 

Like you say I think playlisting etc., will be more open to her new music/follow up.

Maybe for the 2nd single do a Leigh Ann 9little mix approach) and go hard on physicals to land the highest debut they can, let that generate some headlines and maybe that could bump streaming, all what ifs of course. Padam Padam has at the least for now reminded people that Kylie is still around, as im sure outside the fanbase her last few singles arent hugely known.

I agree hun, I like Madonna. I used to be such a huge fan. I hope one day she can get that hit she deserves but she needs to go back to what her fans want and what the GP loved her for. ❤️

 

I also agree, I believe this is a one off for Kylie. I think the next single will probably go low end top 40 but only because capital and spotify and apple etc will support her more on playlists from the start but it womt be anywhere near as big as padam is. Then after that she probably wont have another big hit again. Tension will probably be her biggest opener since Aphrodite... maybe? I think it will be her bighest studio seller from BMG but sales wise probably wont touch most of the parlophome studio albums. I do think the Tension album could hit 200k though

 

But all this is just guess work, I for one am just enjoying the success Kylies having with this single hun as I know it is a one off for now.

Any 2nd single should get again the benefit of 2 versions available to download from the 2 Itunes standard and deluxe. Release on a Friday and it could easily do 3-4k of downloads, then release video etc same day and get streaming etc. Same strategy as Padam Padam should get it a week top 40, but who knows

Agree hun! I wouldnt mind if they throw a physical out week one for the next single as well. Padam padam is just a very special one off song.

Most songs which reach the top 10 and have solid chart runs end up becoming million-sellers in the longrun these days, so I'm definitely thinking of that as a possibility eventually.

BMG probably thought 2 singles and a teaser before the album release and now PP isn’t going anywhere. Wonder if there’ll be a reworked strategy to promote the album w new music whilst ensuring PP is still in the public ear.

If I’m honest, I don’t think they should be really considering Single 2 yet… I feel like we need to leave it at least another 2 months for ‘Padam Padam’ to do its thing.

 

If the ‘Tension’ album release date is staying September 22nd, I would personally hold single 2 until Friday, 25th August. Drop the physical CD’s on Friday 8th September, cassettes on Friday 15th September (after the success of this cassette campaign) and then obviously album release week would give single 2 a boost too, so you’re guaranteed a Week 3, Week 4 and Week 5 boost.

i think we may see first remix out on Friday. Glasto will mean some big streams for artists appearing and they will want to keep hers high

Kylie in red is the promotion theme so far. I think she has dressed in red for nearly all it's promo so far.

But in all black for the American Idol performance! Maybe at that point they didn’t think that they’d run with the red clothing as an ongoing theme :thinking:
