Well as it's now gone viral on TikTok presumably and in the Spotify chart... I'll just C&P context from the Spotify thread as the release situation is rather odd.

as it turns out, this 'Miss You' song is a remix of his 2020 song "Jerk" by Southstar, who then sold it to Robin Schulz. so basically both of the credited artists involved had very little to do with the song in its current form.

(and now that I look at the Spotify chart it seems the Southstar version is also new in at #116)

what I mean was, "Jerk" was by Oliver Tree, Southstar did a remix of it titled "Miss You" released under his own name (in at #116 today), then bizarrely it seems Oliver Tree has now released the exact same song* as the Southstar remix under his own name with Robin Schulz also credited.

*not even exaggerating, just listen, the only difference is the Robin Schulz version seems to have been mixed and mastered more professionally.

thoughts?

Both are good, although the more polished Schulz version would certainly be my preference. Although out of them I think I'd listen to Oliver's original 'Jerk'.

At least it looks like Oliver won't be a one-hit wonder (in a chart sense anyway, he's had several big-streaming hits)

The southstar song has been in my personal chart for a few weeks now - I've refused to entertain the Robin Schulz version so far after learning of the back story :kink:
In my mind, in my head, this is where we all came from.
totally see it as a future #1

I wish Robin would at least add southstar to the credits on his version given it's very obviously his work. He can keep his own credit for whatever minor remastering / tweaks he allegedly made I guess. Meh though, at least the southstar version has had virality / success of its own out of this situation, but it all just feels very scummy.

The song is great in any case. As I said in the Spotify thread I do prefer the sound of the original anyway, it's clearly lower budget and rougher sounding but I think that actually fits the vibe of the song.

So Robin Schulz is essentially Eric Prydz and Southstar is Thomas Bangalter. I mean, essentially right? Bit grotty if this is what has happened given that Southstar is an up and coming producer rather than someone already well established.

The Southstar version is great, I heard it on the Bravo Hits 119 CD of German hits. I also love the slightly grittier vibe to it.

I don't like the vocal on the Schulz version as much, which is ironic as it uses the original vocal. So for me it'll be a case of preferring the version that is destined to be the smaller hit it would seem.

I don't know the original or the Robin Schulz version so will have to check those out but the Southstar one is fab. I've been playing it a few times the past week. Very much here for it smashing.

Didn't Thomas Bangalter have Gym Tonic ripped off from him as well, by that awful Spacedust track. Poor guy, although he's not been short of success otherwise I guess!

He did yes (having produced the track for Bob Sinclar)

The video essay Doctor Blind has linked (which I'd already seen) does go into that as well, primarily because Mr Spacedust also ripped off "Call On Me" (under the alias Red Kult)

yep released without sample clearance ..after Thomas said 'make sure you clear the sample and don't credit me'..

It sounds very eurodancey, I like this...its sad its streams will be split into two versions.

I hope this being a hit can be the catalyst for more hard dance music returning to the charts again.

What's been the official stance from Robin Schulz on this other than just shrugging it off? I'm baffled at how this has been allowed to happen with next to no credit or even an apology to southstar???

There was a statement from Robin's manager on Instagram a while ago which (translated from German) said something about him 'hoping for a joint remix' before the song came out (?!) but it was kind of vague and I don't think there's been any updates about it since then as far as I'm aware.

Reddit thread about it including a link to the Instagram post

Just read an article about this, who steal what. And apperently southstar was a fan of Oliver Tree‘s song Jerk and he sampled/remixed it. Rather sampled I would say. But without asking for a permission.

According to the manager of Robin Schulz, as an answer the label and the production team behind Schulz created a very similar song to the Southstar version but with the voice of Oliver Tree. Robin Schulz himself didn‘t even know about this.

If this is true than that‘s a real mess

I'm not sure I like this  At least it's different I suppose.

Southstar's version is preferable, the vocal on the Robin Schulz version is practically unlistenable.
